To summarize how it works, you have a mana resource, which is aquired from various sources (in EWoM it would likely be shards amoungst other things). The upkeep for things like summons is subtracted from income. Finally, units that can cast spells can use a finite amount of mana per turn based on their ability to cast spells. This model fits well with the game's backstory. Channellers draw power
Quoting Mistwraithe, reply 3It worries me because it suggests that Stardock have no idea whatsoever how to balance things sensibly. Game balance is a difficult thing and there is a huge pile of game features that everyone is asking to have "balanced" immediately. Changing one thing has implications for others. You can't achieve balance in all aspects in a small handful of patches. We have to be patient.
Hear

Indeed, there have been dozens of well written, excellent posts (especially during the time of Frogboy's vacation shortly after release) that I honestly think haven't even been read. I think I can say this because Brad's recent posts give the impression that he hasn't been reading the forums. For example, a few weeks ago there was a post with dozens of replies on h

Same as I have asked all along. Combat - 4 types of damage. Piercing, cutting, blunt and magic and the accompanying saves. Resources - we need lots and lots of variety here.More than pumpkins, wheat and bees. How about cattle, fish, wild game, diamonds, bamboo etc etc etc. Mounts - more variety and interaction.A mount that fights too, a warhorse that tramples and or bites/kicks. a Warg that bites ala LoTR. Uniqueness to each faction - tech trees, research, magi

There needs to be something like organized, but less powerful. I like the idea that was mentioned, Forced March. I would love to be able to designate who my stack/army leader is. I don't care if he is inexperienced, let there be a morale penalty or something.

I agree with much that the OP says, but then again GC2 (vanilla) was just like Elemental is now. It took a while to stabilize it and create uniques to everything. I am enjoying Elemental, I know that in due time it will be everything that we want it to be. The stability issues have been mostly resolved and the game has been sped up, so I am not complaining. Now if everything worked correctly, then the underlying mechanics can be fixed and balanced and we have a winner here.

I love the direction of this thread. Say we address the various mounts, how about they get an attack or two depending on who/what they are.
Yes I actually have this working, and it works under the same principles as the rest of the game mechanics. Now, this units is horrifically unbalanced, as you can see it has 550 hp and 180 attack. The only "glitch" is that the rendering engine has no idea how to put that many guys into one square since the scale of tactical battles is not exactly that big in general. This little encounter was after this unit fought a young ogre for my initial test.
