I am not sure if the 7000 supports shaders, but it wouldn't hurt to update your video card drivers, as yours are from 5/3/2005. Worth a try. -Brian

Hey Vortexdr. Ya I am targeting people who have the computer power to run these things. Check out my other ship that is infact lower poly (about 15,000!) and still packs in all the detail.. https://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?ForumID=162&AID=111535 I will post another one today (just a small shuttlecraft). -Brian
Kalin, he means multiple navigation points for ships to follow. Go here, then here then here, etc... This way you could have your fleet automatically navigate around certain areas of the map you wish to avoid. I think too few games make use of this functionality. -Brian
Bingjack. Ya your right. My next ship will make use of normal maps. Maybe I will implement the same optimizations to this baby later on. Thanks for the suggestion. -Brian
I am willing to do whatever, if there is serious interest in a particular ship, as long as I have enough existing material to go off of. -Brian
I was going to release them all as a set once I've completed them. -Brian
You can certainly tech yourself max. That is what I did. I run an architectural visualization business on the side, using max as my platform. www.splicedigital.com There are countless tutorials to get you started, and the max reference manual is pretty good at telling you what does what. Max actually comes with a series of tutorials as well, and if you have a purchased copy, you get a cd with extra tutorial content.
Currently it is built into the model (texture actually). If there is a way to dynaimcally create text texture, then I would be open to using that. -Brian
Arg. Stupid forums. -Brian
Ok here it is folks, the second installment to the GalTrek series: The Defiant. The first can be found here: [ link ], though I think that I should redo it. Please post here if you feel that you would like to make use of these ships in the future. If i know people are interested, then I will hasten my efforts. As you may or
Agreed. If the goal of minor races was to stay on their planet and leave everything else alone, then why are they always building colonizers and constructors until their spaceport is full? Also, I think we should be able to add funding to espionage for minor races. How else can I see my influence on their plants? -Brian
hah.. Yep Beta-1 here.. Thanks a lot for the info Brad. -Brian
Got the poly count down to 98,000 !! Whoo... From 260,000, thats not bad : ) Had to remove some detail from the ventral areas though. Link -Brian
I have also found the following options to product the smallest and most compatible output: Animation Panel: Delete the active animation segment Texture and Effects: Convert texture maps, Format: PNG, scale to a power of 2 (Not sure if this is necessary for GalCiv2, but it is for some importers). X-Settings: Binary with Compressed, top frame only (I found this to be important for compatibility), Left handed axis (D
By the way, this post was started with my game that indeed does have tech trading left on. If anyone cares : ) -Brian
I've ran GalCiv2 on an unsupported video card at one point, and also saw a lack of textures. I don't think there is anything you can do unfortunately. -Brian
GalCiv2 seems to display this model pretty quickly, compared with DirectX Viewer, ir even in max viewports (Kudos to Stardock team). Also, if you are running a huge galaxy, remember that once you zoom out, ships appear as icons, so only a limited number of these should appear on the screen. However you are right, the poly count is just a tad ( ! ) too high for real game play. I am going to see what I can do. I already have a sovereign at half this
Hey folks. There are some "ship designer" built startrek ships available, but I have yet to see any real modeled startrek hulls in the download section, so I thought I would put together some high res model conversions of popular startrek ships for GalCiv 2. I hope to cover all the classes from Tiny to Huge. What I’ve done so far is the Magella class (because the curves are sooOOooo sexy), and I have a link to my progress thus far: http://bhendel.splicedigital.
With that far superior intelligence of yours, you sure miss the point. -Brian
One of the reasons GalCiv 2 is a great game is that it isn’t all about just going to war with everyone. Pre 1.1, you saw civs that stay out of the action and pursue their strategy along a different non-militaristic route. This is my second game (Challenging, with randomized races and intelligence) in a row with 1.1 beta and both have played out in a similar fashion. The game starts out with more tension then there was in previous version
I would think a reinstall would be a quick and simple solution. Though I don't know why you would be seeing ReadprocessMemory or WriteProcessMemory problems. -Brian
Same problem here. It seems to happen when the entire game slows down (background AI process maybe?). The system stops filling the audio buffer and the sound subsystem churns with what data it has left. I was under the impression that it as happening to everyone… ? Xp SP2, P4 1.7, 1GB, SB Live Value, Radeon 9800 pro. -Brian
Hm. I live about 30 minutes away from Stardock with am Honors Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering. Not sure if games are my thing though. -Brian
Why do I get the feeling like people have more extras then I do. I preordered and downloaded the game, but could I still be missing the extra goodies? For instance, I don't see a "satilite dish" anywhere. -Brian
I am finding it quite annoying when, after moving a ship, the game refocus my view on the next ship with available move points. Isn’t that what TAB is for after all? Any way to disable this functionality? Will it be addressed in a patch? Thanks! Great game otherwise! -Brian
