You guys are forgetting diplomacy. The more diplonus you have, the more worth your tech-offer is. The prerequisite idea is a very solid one. Perhaps it should be extended a little. Allow Laser V if other has Laser II, but not Plasma if others are still in the Laser-range. For the non-sequential techs just go one level down as a prerequisite (i.e. equivalent to the original idea) The non-instant idea is also a very solid, reasonab

Please guys, commenting on the posters skill or lack thereof isn't constructive in any way. I believe he has a point, altough he jumps to conclusions calling the game broke. It has been my experience that in the early game the other civs have a tech edge aquired trough trading, this edge usually diminished later on depending on your playing style. But it is also in the beginning that it tech is very important (consider for instance speed up

I have seen in the manual that there are tiles with a 700% research bonus. I have never seen these, but on occasion I have seen a 700% production bonus tile. Is this an error in the manual, or do they exist?

The AI is in definite need of improvement. I've noticed from my games on the highest difficulty levels that their economy and planet development are quite good, altough they tend to overstack them with 'useless' cultural bonuses. But the millitary aspect of fleet managment and ship design are indeed really sub par. As a result, beating the highest difficulty AI isn't that big a deal - if you survive until midgame that is - as long as you ke

Oh god please no. Don't allow minors to conquor or expand to more than 3 planets. Thats the main reason I stopped playing GalCiv1 - minors taking over the universe. If you have minors competing in every aspect in the game and they start 'conquering' they aren't really that minor anymore, are they?

So again, please note that prescouting etc isn't an integral part of my guide, merely a suggestion for those finding it difficult to get started until they can manage without. So don;t condemn the entire post beforehand simply because I mentioned it as an option for the newcommer. If someone has something to say about the 99% of other stuff, I'd be very interested to hear it!

Look I think there is a bit of misunderstanding here. My little guide was meant for those who are new to this game or want to get started in beating higher difficulty AI. Obviously if you get the feel for it, you may do away with my exploits, its not that big a deal. I am a bit surprised at the violent reactions I get from some... relax dudes, its just a game, not life and death and I'm just trying to help out. If you don't like it, fine, and if yuo have something to say about it can

@Japata -------- 1) Yes, selling tech can be risky. But it is most important in the early game, and if you sell tech, keep in mind all the aliens tend to share it, so sell it to all at once for maximum profit. Don't worry too much about them getting too powerful. It's not after a year before anyone is capable of waging serious war and the aliens will research that tech eventually. So why not profit from it at the same time? <

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that Its because of the autofocus thing, I am turn after turn redirecting my survey ship and every time the game throws me back to that idle colony ship. I really wish they'd turn that annoying autofocus off.

I thought to help out newbies with some pointers and to those who are wondering how to beat the AI on painful or crippling difficulty levels. I play as I line out here, and after a few victories against high level AIs, I find it to be increasingly easy to beat them. In fact, the AI is still pretty dumb, it misses obvious exploits and strategies, and is really no match for human ingenuity. That doesn't however negate the fact they can still put up a hel

First thing is that you have to realize that cultural calculations, from what I can see, is a lot like calculating the electric field around some static charges of the same polarity. The charges act as sources for the field, and outside the source, the field is calculated using a reflexive algorithm commonly used in physics. What this means is that the AI and Player essentially being treated equal in code terms, the sources of this field are the same and have the same strength, in ot

Driessen, dat zou me erg verbazen, ik heb me ongans gezocht ten tijde van GalCiv 1, maar die was werkelijk nergens te krijgen - niemand had er zelfs van gehoord - heel misschien over een paar weken / maanden, maar het zou me verbazen. Gewoon via internet bestellen dus.

I noticed that with the latest (1.0X) patch upgrading is still very much a random affair. Sometimes I get the upgrade-screen (where you have to pay), sometimes I don't. It seems to depend on how much you change, but more often than not the pay-screen doesn't show up and the ship design is simply duplicated with no way to change the old ships. Provided this works, I still feel that the entire cost and method for upgrading should be radically

I think the entire cost and method for upgrading should be radically reconsidered. Its cost should be calculated as follows: +Cost of new equipment - Cost of scrapped equipment +Base Upgrade Fee +Redesign Fee, increasing depending on how far apart the differnt techs are in the tree (so substituting Laser IV with Laser V isn't as expensive as Laser IV with Plasma III) -------------------------------------------------------

Ah nice to hear, so it won't happen again? Its kind of a let down to see after all the hard work against a magnificent AI that your game showed up as merely 'normal' Would it also be possible if someone could adjust that? Because it still shows incorrectly in my character.

BTW, Gigantic, wow, what a headache... why would anyone play on that map? obviously because the game lasts longer, and also because it is a lot harder to play on a gigantic map against high AI levels. At small levels you can just as micromanage as the AI can, but on the larger maps you won't, making it all the more difficult

While I agree with your post to some extend Vulcan2, I still think its a great addition and provides that extra bit of depth. But if you really don't like it, well, don't use it

I just finished a painful game with all opponents set to intelligent except for one who was one above that (gifted?). Posted the results to metaverse, but it incorrectly described my game as 'normal'... can this be fixed please? I have the endgame-save to proof it.

1. Have you tried the waypoint manager to delete it? Haven't tried it, so I can't confirm the problem 2. Same thing. 3. Not noticed it, I think you are trying asciicharacters that don't have a corresponding texture in the game. Try setting your keyboard to english?
