Interesting read. For me, the most important aspect of Stardock and the one that differentiates it from most other corp's out there is that they take customers seriously and treat them with respect. As a side note, I respectfully disagree with your stance on DRM. Although I fully appreciate your point of view, I think the whole issue must be looked at in the broader context. DRM is poised to become a pervasive element of every-day life used by the Big Boys to exhort and cheat

I noticed that on higher difficulty settings I have a hard time keeping up technology wise with the AIs. Started a painful game on a large galaxy. After the first 2 years I persued a policy of maxing out my research capability. Planet (number of and tiles and development) wise I was ranked 3rd of 9, yet somehow, *all* AIs where way beyond me in tech. While I was trying to get research acadamies they were already having advanced colonizations (+100% extreme col. tech) and plasma beam weapons. Eve
Sometimes its better to remain free and open. Look at linux, one of the most secure, high quality operating systems in existence. All done by the volunteer work of thousends of people, and the vast majority of internet infrastructure is based on it. Many have the misperception it is just a bunch of amateurs or hobbyists that make it. This is very unfortunate. Many are academics, and many great advances in software engineering are done in the public space and institutions we all benefi
Peace really needs to work on a system of "How have our ships faired against them" system and perhaps a modifier for "How have our ships faired against them in the past" so that they can better determine if they want to go back to war against you.

But the root problem - the "my 0 attack/defense ships give me massive military might" needs to be fixed - It's annoying and causing the AI to repeatedly declare war on me when they have no chance to win.
The event occured too early in my game. I and all other civs were still busily researching laser techs when they popped in. I also noticed they didn't touch minor races ships and bases. So the little folk populated all the destroyed resource bases. After 3+(!) years of research I had enough tech to beat them. But clearing the galaxy, which was gigantic, proved to be impossible to do on my own. Right after that I got the foreign spy event, a spy on all my colonies, a
Hello Stardock, The only reason I boot in windows, or have it even installed as a matter of fact, is to play GC2. I tried to remedy this by running GC2 under wine, but I get a error screen saying the game is activated but the signature doesn't match. Is there a way around this, perhaps manual activation or something? Any constructive comments are appreciated!
Hello guys, thank you for your help. I followed your advice and now it installs Good job! ~A happy GC2 player
Just bought DA. Updated and restarted stardock, it logs in, and starts downloading gc2_DarkAvatar.sdc (~ 250MB). When its finished, 100%, it starts all over again! Presumably some checksum error? I've done this a few times now, but no luck. Any thoughts?
Teancum thanks for the summary, didn't know it looked at those factors. Always appeared random to me.
Not to mention that Ender's Game is a terrible book. -Spencer Its queer, but quite original. I kinda liked it The sequels were too implausible and generally over the top and IMO should not be bothered with.
I did, but tbh I think there's hardly any claim possible to primeness of the concept of insectoid, hive minded aliens. They are probably as old as rosswell, and like their thin limbed gray spoon-eyed friends part of the public consciousness
I can tell you right now that no matter how trivial it may sound on paper, coding wise, implementing this grouping is quite involved. New UIs, proper responses, lot of testing. Like you I would really love to see this added, but I'd wager they wait with this stuff for the sequel. Something that is easy and quick to code is one thing that's been bugging me ever since GC2 was out and is the inflexible surrender feature. I'd like to have an option to randomize or make race specifi
1. If your empire is completely connected (maybe "overlapping" is the right word here) by your area of influence does it give your any advantage over having your empire more scattered (not completely connected by influence overlapping)? Exactly how influence is calculated seems to be a bit of a mystery. But I think your total influence area and points
There was something exceedingly strange about the last game I played. As usual, I was my own custom race, set alone against 8 other races with crippling difficulty, in a gigantic universe. My initial position was very profitable and I dominated up trough mid-game as chief technologist and pacifist, and never acquired more planets than in the initial colony rush. While the others were struggling for control trough conquest, I noticed that every single race that fell surrendered to the A
Hi, Where can I find a comprehensive list of the features guaranteed to be in Dark Avatar? In particular where these differ drastically from stock Galciv2. Thanks!
Just started playing again after a few months. Fetched the game clean from stardock and right in my first game I noticed a few issues. After a few minutes, my screen started to flicker and weird artifacts appeared. This degradation continues if I perform mouse actions until the entire screen becomes an unreadable blob. Unfortunately, I do not have any screenshot of this, nor can I reproduce it, but I suspect its a video card problem, possibly overheating (Asus A6K notebook held on my l
Ah I see! Excellent, this will work out just fine after all. Thanks for the help guys
That is correct, I'm still using the same account, and my previous email adresses were the same as the one to which purchase/registration information was sent. I've now changed that adress to the new one. However this information I don't have anymore. The serial used for stardock is still in the program somewhere, but my question is can I retrieve this information again in case I have to reinstall my PC?
Not sure this is the right place to put this, but I really need some help. When I bought this game I used a gmail account, and subsequent information (like the key to use stardock) was sent to that email address. However, I recently deleted that account without thinking to copy the stardock data (which was of course way, way back in the list). Is there any way I can retrieve this information?
I'm still waiting for a reference to R. Daneel Olivaw when I play as yor
Eeuhm info war?? What info war?? tell me more
Interesting points. I'm going to try to change my play style. Try not to grab the most planets or become the biggest, but instead, sit in a corner with relatively few planets yet orchastrating the galactic theatre and see if I can get the others to annihilate each other and having the last surviving one surrender to me
I've noticed this ever since the game was released, and it hasn't been really addresses IMO. The game is extremely static after mid-game, especially if you're in the lead. If you are on top of everything, every race automatically loves you and no one ever attacks. This means we can form alliances to end the game. Or just do nothing and go for tech victory. Or go the long and boring road of conquoring those 70is planets belonging to the other races but which will eventually yield with
I think its a beginners mistake to try and buy those colony ships. To do so on large/huge galaxies is quite silly. After all, you start with 5000 and at most you can buy 4 or 5 ships and then it's finished. What you should do instead, especially on those larger galaxies, is to first built a research lab, and tech-rush speed upgrades, possibly up to impulse drive. If you have Ion's you can make ships that go 4 units, if you research impulse, you can make your colony ships
What would lead to it, I don't know, it appears to have been there since the very beginning of the game because no race had yet even 1 structure built!
