This bothers me so much in particular, and I think Frogboy too, all the more because Civilization is -the- strategy game series of all time. I mean, is there any name as iconic in strategy games as Sid Meier? Its so terribly disheartening. I'm sure Civ V will sell very well as a Steam exclusive ... but I don't think 2K/Firaxis realizes at all that their sales will be nerfed by the fact they have made an exclusive deal like this. They would make more sales b

For as tiny of a portion of the personal computer and operating system market as Apple does, it seems to do a lot of evil things as a company. I did not jump to OS/2, but neither did I jump to Windows. I stuck with MS-DOS until companies stopped making MS-DOS games, around 1997 or so. I actually started when I was a wee lad on the Apple ][ and I liked it ... until I tried a PC running MS-DOS. I actually loved it a lot more than the Mac I tried. And ... I'm

Hello, Awhile back (I think it was around March 2nd) I realized I still had tokens left and went through the process to even them out to spend what I had left. I distinctly recall spending some of the last of them to pre-order Elemental, and that the tokens were deducted from my account. Unfortunately, I cannot find a record of the transaction and presumably because it is a pre-order, I cannot verify that my purchase-with-tokens (which I had to do through the stardock webs

I pre-ordered long ago on the stardock website (not through Impulse) using the last of my tokens (from way back when ... Stardock used to operate on a buy-and-spend tokens system before just direct-buy). Those tokens were deducted. I won't be charged again will I?

Wardell also mentioned Simtex's Master of Orion as a franchise he would like to see Stardock continue. Like Star Control , its third entry was developed by a different studio -- in this case, Quicksilver Software -- and was not as well-regarded as the original games. "We'd like to do a Master of Orion 4 ," said Wardell, noting that those rights are owned by Atari as well. "It would be an updated Master of Orion 2 . There would be mor

Could you do me and other users a favor by editing that post to give exact instructions on how to order and download? Specifically you should probably note in there that you can only use the tokens using the "ORDER" / "PRE-ORDER" links and no the title links (which go to impulsedriven which doesn't seem to support tokens). Also, once purchased, could/should we then use Impulse to download the tokens-purchased game? Again it would be helpful to have that info in your "sticky"

Unfortunately I'm rather stuck in the boonies. For the past few years I've been doing things with my cheap laptop, using free wi-fi from the library or friends when I visit ... but my laptop just isn't cut out for games. GC2 ran so slowly that I just stopped playing it. Finally I got a decent gaming system built, but because I live so far out in the boonies, I don't really have much in the way of Internet options, so I've been trying to make due using my laptop to download b

I tend to focus my planets on research when I have an overabundance of military built and few or no social buildings to build on my planets.

Are you sure the production gets wasted? I know when it comes to research, research left over from researching your current project goes to the next research project (unfortunately, not always the one you want ... and yeah sometimes you do lose the research if its at the final end of a tech tree). I thought production would do the same, leftover going into the next ship.

I'd like to see a tech tree that is not entirely pre-determined ... not random like SOTS, but more programmed technology generations, but not fixed enhancements to those technology generations. Let a civ's abilities and research efforts determine improvements to the base technology ... for instance, say the first generation Laser does 1 damage, takes 10 space and costs 10 units ... you have a strong research base and develop th Mark II that is more efficient and only takes 7 space and c

Is that true whether its a planetary bonus or one of the tile bonuses? If you have, say, one of those 700% tile bonuses (which, I understand, gives you eight times the production ... since a 100% bonus gives you twice the production, a 300% bonus would give you four times and a 700% eight times ... stop me if I'm wrong there), does the multiplier not multiply the total production there? That is, if you have an 8 RP building on a 700% research squa

"Right is wrong, left is right." -- ME "And you took that stick! ... and ... well, you took it! ... and ... I guess that's somethin' ..." "We're gonna explode? I don't wanna explode!" "You guys had a riot? On account of me? My very own riot!?" -- all from Jayne, Firefly/Serenity

The powerplants can be upgraded, later ones add more cap, but yeah. Same goes for research coordination centers which I think are a 25% bonus, so I add them when I have 4 or more research centers. Remember, though, if you have a factory on a tile with a bonus to count that tile the appropriate number of times -- two times for a 100% bonus, 4 for a 300%, 8 for a 700%. Of course in TA the formula changes a bit if you play a race that has one-p

I occasionally get popups indicating an AI wants to trade a tech with me, but I already have the tech they are offering. The tech they mention they are offering for the one of mine they want is in the text of their message, but of course not listed in their actual offer since I already have it. I have only encountered this since installing Twilight of the Arnor.

There were a lot of very serious flaws in the game that made it less than fully enjoyable, but I like a concept from Star Trek: Birth of the Federation (a MOO-ish TBS from the '90s): the notion of parking a fleet of starships on automatic intercept, so anytime an enemy ship crosses into their range, they will intercept it automatically. No more "Awww, crap, I didn't see that ship slip in." That makes a lot of sense to me. I would love to see something similar in

Oi vei, I read a post someone made about the Yor so I tried them (just bought TotA a couple days ago) only to find ... the Yor can't research governments (no Interstellar Republic, Democracy, Federation) and also doesn't have Advanced Troop Mods in its tech trees!? WTF! Aren't those kinda critical!?
