Congrats on the new 'code' frogboy Creston

I downloaded the beta2 at work, and so far have yet to run into any problem of any kind that I could recognize. The AI definitely seems smarter, I'm struggling to beat them even on normal setting. (I'm not that good at the game anyways) Looks great so far.
Asteroids, planetary environments and AI options FTW! Spies, blegh. I'm already getting flashbacks of Medieval Total War where one spy could completely cripple an entire country, including all armies inside it. Thereby forcing you to place three spies on every country you owned just to counter potential enemy spies. That's always been the problem with a spy unit. It's great to use for yourself, but it sucks when it's used against you. And so then you're faced with the decision,
If someone is paying $40 for a game, they should be treated with respect, not with suspicion. I HEART YOU !!!!1!!!111!1one!1!! Actually, for me the biggest annoyance over having to use a CD is that the game checks the CD for a second, but the damn disc sits there, spinning and making noise, for like ten minutes. I'm old s
The amount of changes you guys have made in 1.2 is amazing, most of them seem great. Thanks so much for continuously supporting and improving your game! I love getting my ass handed to me by the AI on Challenging now (well, okay, I appreciate its ability to do so, I don't really "enjoy" it ) Can't wait till 1.2 hits final!
I do notice your ads in PC Gamer, they draw the eye and I think it stands out well. As for if it convinces someone to actually buy the game, I don't know. I'd bought your game on the first day, and had already planned to buy it before I ever saw the ad. 20 grand is a lot of money, do you have to pay that every single time the ad runs? You'd need to sell a lot of copies to get that money back... Ofcourse, it also depends on how people still use game magazines. I typically on
Hey all, I finally got started on the campaign, and have noticed that it's impossible for me to research any defenses besides Armor. There are no Shield or Point Defense options? Is that normal in the campaign? I'm in this monstrous war of attrition against the Drengin, but because they have 4 planets to my 2, they can simply throw hordes of smaller ships against my technologically superior ones, because I can't put any defense tech against their beam weapons on it <im
Gringo es estupido This means "I worship your ability to speak my native language. You, sir, are truly a giant among men!" It does! Spanish uses fewer words to say more. Trust me. My wife teaches Spanish Creston
"Also tweaked the list so it shouldn’t reset to the top when returning from the Planet Screen." Agh! That brings a tear to me eye, it does! Frogboy, any idea on when the Dreadlords will become a fully playable race? I don't know if man
Isn't taking away the first shot advantage going to completely nullify the use of speed though? Sure, you can still make ships fast, but to what purpose? So they can intercept attacking fleets? Why bother? Just put all your ships at home, and put extra armor/shields on them. No need to bother with speed anymore. I think the first shot advantage is cool, but it's biggest problem is that it's aggregate. You attack, you fire first. Damage is done to your enemy, and he potentially loses s

Actually I have always been scared of using defrag. On a large drive it is an overnight job, and if the power goes out your system is pretty much screwed ... no? Please correct me if I am wrong here ... This was a bug in the early early early days of Win98, it's long since been fixed. Even back then it had to just happen while defrag wa
That sounds like a terrific idea! Several RPGs have ended with an Epic Story, basically recapping your actions throughout the game, and mentioning what happened to NPC so and so, and it's always just fun to watch and go "oh yeah, I did that." It also makes the ending at least a little fresh every time you finish the game. Good stuff!
Have a great vacation Frogboy, you definitely deserve one. That extra CPU time option sounds great, I'd definitely be interested in using that. I don't care if a turn takes a few seconds more. I remember playing Master of Magic on my old x386-DX40 with 16megs of RAM, and it taking literally MINUTES to do turns with large worlds. If the game's good enough, I'll wait on it Besides, in a turnbased
I know I'm probably blind, but what are these new hotkeys? Btw, thanks Stardock, you guys rock. I keep pimping your game on every board I visit. Keep it up!
I have a few friends with whom I'd like to play this game in multi, so if you add coop in there (ie, two or three human players vs a bunch of Intelligent AIs), then yes, I would like multiplayer. However, I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for a strict multiplayer expansion pack. If you add more content, then it becomes a different story, but it would depend how much content. As I said somewhere else, I'll pay 10 bucks for a ship package, so I'd p
I don't give a damn about multiplayer. Never have, never will. In any form of game. Mostly it's because it's REALLY hard to find someone to play against who's not a total ********. I get enough crap at work, I don't need it when I'm home playing a game. Also, it often takes time to set up the kind of multiplayer game you want to play, waiting for opponents who want the same game settings as you do, etc, you always have ******* who quit beca
The 2 dollar thing for a tiny bit of content is currently really annoying me in Oblivion, so please don't do that. (or if you do, at least offer content that lasts longer than 15 minutes.) A ship pack for under a tenner I would probably buy, IF you vary the models of the ships drastically from the game offers now. I like the ships, don't get me wrong, but it all looks the same. Yes, I know I can modify it myself, but the BASE models are very
While I understand the basic idea behind wanting to release for Christmas (people buy lots of games for Christmas!), in my opinion it is sheer MADNESS to try to sell anything in that cutthroat operation. For years now, I've been sadly lamenting the fact that we (as a gameplaying community) get NOTHING to play between May/June and September, and then 20 top titles are released within one month of one another in September. Do publishers/d
I think I came here from an article posted on www.bluesnews.com, it was one of the gameplay diaries that you'd done, and they intrigued me, I stuck around, and wound up buying the game. Haven't regretted it for a moment. As for would I recommend it, I already have. I've been pimping your game on bluesnews to every forum member there, and two of my buddies bought it on the recommendation. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/S
While I think that the AI work you're doing is phenomenal, I have to question a particular design decision : "The AI will build defenders that have no weapons to act as an obstacle to early game "rushes" What's the point? A weaponless defender can never win, and will delay an attacking fleet/ship for exactly one turn. That's it. In a real time strategy game, such a strategy is useful, since if the attacking ship takes 25 minutes
Also, the AI doesn't use his influence bonus tiles at all. Typically when he has a +100% influence bonus tile, he'll build a factory or an orbital fleet manager on it? If he would just build an embassy there, he'd probably stop me from gaining his planets so easily... Creston
Btw, when I tried to post it kept timing out on me, and now it seems it has posted it three times. Sorry about that Creston
Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but it does seem to be a bit of a bug. The AI does not counter influence well enough. I still have to try it on intelligent, but even at lower levels the AI needs to do a bit more work to counter influence. I had no influence resources, just one influence starbase (right next to my own homeplanets, mostly to counter potential enemy influence), I did have the galactic wonders for influence, but no more th
