When the hunting squirels event came up, I chose ban hunting...with an expected 1% Morale penalty. Now every planet is at 1% Approval Rating. I'd call that a showstopping bug.

I updated video drivers, unfortunately same problem persists. For selfish reasons I am glad others have the same minimap errors because hopefully this will lead the devs to fix them.
Just looking at the debug info, a video driver update would be advisable. The ones you have right now are just about as old as you can get and still run the game, but who knows what bugs the older drivers may have that could cause game problems. Using control panel to update drivers indicates that there are no updates. Is there a better way to u
Err...I forgot 2: 3. Fleet icons. After a fleet is formed, the graphic where all the ships/fleets are shown in individual icons is often blank. Example: form a fleet, move one more ship to the same location, when you select the icon of the fleet and the ship to join them the fleet icon is often blank. 4. Colony list. At some point early in the game hitting F2 for the colony list displays a blank window. You can scroll on that list up to see the colonies, which makes it seem l
Here are the cosmetic bugs I've encountered in the most recent beta: 1. Ship graphics. At some point colony ships and constructors start using the wrong ship graphic on the main map -- usually the freighter graphic, but not always. Note that this does not occur immediately, the game does use the correct graphic at first. I have not been able to determine what triggers it, but it seems to get worse if I ever Alt-Tab to a different app and come back to the game. 2. Minimap Inf
Thanks for the suggestions, particularly V1m. I'll try fewer AIs. I have never restarted based on starting position, because there is no challenge to playing that way. Hopefully fewer AIs will make them all more competitive.
My prefered playstyle is on gigantic maps with 9 AI opponents and slow tech rate. What I usually get is a game that is already "decided" by the time capital ships are being built. What I mean, of course, is that one race -- not always but usually me -- is so far ahead in planets and technology that the game is out of reach for everyone else. Does anyone have any suggestions to force a more closely contested contest farther into the game? I generally set all AI to Intelligent and use
Thanks for the replies, allow me to answer some of the questions. I play on the big maps with every AI set to Intelligent. I don't know what this translates to for overall difficulty because I prefer to make sure that no individual AI is a pushover. #1. Often the game is "won" before I discover the tech for the Imperial Senate or soon thereafter. I agree that different government types should experience varying effects of a growing empire, but I'd settle for anything that giv
Preface: I love the basic mechanics of this game and the Stardock way of business. That said, the game has some pretty glaring faults that have led me to take long breaks between playing. These are the two most obvious to me: 1. Scaling. As an empire gets larger, it should become harder to control, less efficient, people unhappier, etc... I mean this in the sense of both realism and playability. I won't go into realism since this should be readily apparent. In playability terms, i
I have seen others post the same problem. Since it does not cause a CTD, I am only going to provide the hardware specs of debug.err (which was created in this case by a different error): Debug Message: Version v1.3 beta 1 last updated on: Thu Jul 27 18:22:18 2006 Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 8/6/2006, 07:41:09 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Machine Name: MBRAN91911 Operating System: Windows XP Home Edi
I tried this on the bug reports forum. No replies. The problem is influence disappearing on minimap, reappearing after zoom-in/out, that sort of thing. I presume others have this problem too. Is there any feedback from the devs about fixing it? Thanks.
I've seen others post this problem, but I wonder whether there is an official response. Is this being worked on? The error is influence shading disappearing from minimap. Zoom in and out and it usually reaapears. Not really a showstopper, but annoying nonetheless. Thanks.
Let me pile on also. As mentioned minimap does not always show ownership. Zoom in and out and it fixes itself. Very annoying, though. This has been a bug since the first release. Any updates on this?
That's because no-one, save the orignal poster, has posted anything negative. LOL Moving right along, I appreciate the comments by the engineer manager. I agree with you for the most part -- BTW a lot of people seem to want to know whether I developed games, and the answer is no, my team d
Thank you, Reklam, for reading my mind. Now that you've established your extra-sensory perceptions, please let us know whether Bush really wanted war with Iraq. Actually, what I wanted was open discussion about how others felt about the quality of the game. This I got, and a bit mo
Thanks for the feedback. I expected a lot of folks to rush to the game's defense, but I'll admit the attacks on me personally gave me a few chuckles. Apparently some people are not only completely tolerant of bugs, they expect everyone else to be also. Yes, as an IT manager, we did in fact deliver polished software. True enough that nothing is ever 100% bug-free, which is why I stated "too many" bugs instead of "a" bug. I have less toler
I am a big fan of the original GC, I love the design of GC2, and I'm glad it's getting such good reviews. But am I the only one who thinks it is too buggy? I have what many people might consider an unreasonable expectation -- I expect the software I pay for to work. Some people may consider my attitude to be too pessimistic, and perhaps it is. I'm sure my experience as an IT manager -- where I know I would be embarrassed to release someth
I would contribute if someone started a "Text errors to submit to Stardock for fixing" thread. However, isn't this the QA department's job? I presume Stardock has a QA department...and I presume their manager is getting a poor review this cycle.
You didn't mention "Here's the excerpts..." should be "Here are the excerpts..." But the point is valid--sloppy writing is unprofessional, not to mention a strong indicator of sloppiness elsewhere. This is, in fact, demonstrated by descriptive errors as mentioned by Jurfop. Unfortunately, there are far too many non-cosmetic bugs in the game that should take higher priority. Yes, many have been fixed, which is a good sign, but I am disappo
I just read the "Known Glitch" thread and was surprised not to see this. Makes me wonder if I am missing something... There are options to upgrade a Military Starbase to boost the defense of ships within range. Same premise as boosting attack, except it does not work. Read the manual and see no mention of defense, only attack. Bug?
I started this thread. My game was on a gigantic galaxy with rare habitable planets...but there were plenty. I had about 10 planets in my empire 100 turns in. All AI races were set to Intelligent. And note that none of them had even built a colony ship, as indicated in their list of ships in the diplomacy screen. I will start another game and see if it happens again.
Anyone else notice that the other races are not building colony ships? I am perhaps 100 turns into the game and have encountered 3 other races and all of them have only 2 planets (I presume that they, like the player, start with a colony ship + homeworld) and tons of scouts but nothing else. Thanks.
It definitely does not for me. If it's a bug let me elaborate. I play on very large galaxies, and zoom the minimap to x200 or x300, so I'm only seeing a small part of the overall galaxy on it. When a ship I move finishes, or if I tab to find the next ship with available moves, the main map recenters but the minimap does not. Often this means what I am seeing on my main map does not at all correspond to the mini. The blue quadralateral on the mini
Forgive me if this has already been discussed. I did not find any reference to it. Is there any way to make the minimap automatically recenter when tabbing between ships? I currently have zoom out then back in on the minimap to do so. It's cumbersome. Thanks.
