Yeah, I actually agree. The theory is that early on a lot of DGs rely on one particular skill to do anything against an enemy (spit for UB, fireball for some TBs etc). If you can pull a shield out of your pocket and nullify that you can surprise them and cause all sorts of trouble. The problem is that pretty much all Oaks try this and you just arent going to surprise anybody. I like to take Ward at level 1 and SoulPower at level 2. Give me 3 spirits, SoulPower

In a build where you arent supporting your minions with either skills (Morale) or items, it doesnt make any sense at all to be taking 2 levels of Ward but not getting Soul Power until the game is basically over. You basically have 3 choices: 1) Use SoulPower (maybe only 1 level though) to get a benefit from your spirits 2) Do a minion build with Ward 3) Dont get Ward (or at least not until very late in the game) You are waiting a long time to get Vlemish

If you try and use TB, and alert player will just go assassin Erebus and crush you that way. I'd also love to know how builds with no AoE are going to counter a minion build "just fine". It takes a while to take out 20+ minions (which a minion Erebus can get by a pretty early level actually) when they have 2k hps each and you have no AoE.
Krazikarl Erebus gets up to an 80% chance to convert to nightwalkers by a fairly early level. The Erebus can easily kill 1 creep in the time that a UB kills 1 minion. So Erebus can easily keep up with UB's kill rate with new minion spawns. Really? I had no idea. Perhaps you could refresh my memory, what does Ooze do?
Reduce attack speed by 40% and does some DoT (which is more than overcome by Horn of Battle).&n
XaviorsFist But vs erebus it's brutal. 2k health nightwalkers against 8 towers may still mean all the nightwalkers die but it ties up your towers damage for at least 20-30 seconds meanwhile erebus and his nightwalkers are pounding away at rook himself. This is an exaggeration. Are you going to stop? XaviorsFist UB's ooze just doesn't have the damage to kill nightwalkers fast enough. And since the erebus spawns them a

Yeah, multi Regs is a bit overstated. I played yesterday in a 4v4 where 1 team has 3 Regs. They did spec tracking device and Snipe, which was really annoying early on, but eventually we got enough armor and health to shrug that off and the Regs went down fast. Plus, even in the beginning they couldnt hold flags worth anything and were pretty easily pushed away from towers. Sure they were taking some towers down, but not too quickly and we were up by a large margin in w

The fundamental problem is that there is a big asymmetry going on here: Some "Generals" can either be very good assassins or they can be very good generals. Assassin DGs can only be assassins. Some DGs, like say TB, should be very strong against minion DGs. After all, TB has all kinds of AoE tools to take them out. But if generals like Erebus and Oak see a team that is made up of anti minion DGs, they can simply play an assassin build. And assassin Ereb
I must admit that I didn't actually understand the technical jargon of Soul Power and Spirits until recently, and now I see just how good they are in combination. For my own personal preference, however, rather than getting one point in Soul Power and maxing Wards, I'd prefer getting one Ward and maxing Soul Power. If my understanding in correct, then by level 14, this would give me a max bonus of 120 Weapon Damage rather than 80. I had no idea the Armor aura of Ward's existed, thou
No, No, No, No, No. And furthermore NO. It is puggers who have warped perspective, wheras premades (particularly ones that have played several games against other premades) have a much more accurate view of how things work at a higher level. I'll quote myself yet again:
I actually think that premades who exclusively play pugs are WORSE experiences than just pugging. There is no need to develop as much individual skill since the superiority of the team overall wi

So he probably always has a buddy and probably almost never gets 2v1 or 3v1'd. As if not getting 3v1ed has anything to do with being a premade. You don't need an Anklet, or BotF, or a premade team to avoid getting 3v1ed. All it takes is not being stupid or careless. I do not hide the fact that I play in a premade. I mean, look at my avatar fo

You derive some benefit from killing creeps and towers. You are either opening up real estate and thus getting closer to ending the game, or getting gold/xp and thus getting closer to ending the game. Killing minions feels like and is a complete waste of time. You get nothing. Thats the problem with minion builds - the can force the other team to just waste time killing stupid minions.

21 Replies 2,815 Views

I think that people also underestimate how much time you save when running around capping flags. I tend to be more ADD and like running between flags instead of sitting in a single lane, and Anklets just save me a lot of time when you add it up over a 30 minute game. On some maps Amulet of Tele might save me more though. Really it comes down to personal preference for most builds. I think that you would be hard pressed to show that any other favor item is substantial
i tend to agree with this i had a game vs 3 regs with 3ub we out play them by a mile (more kills, more flags, more upgrades, 2lvls higher, more everything) all they did better was killing towers and they didnt need to buy much items coz could outrun us most of times, we on the other hand had to buy alot of hp coz of the 3x snipe from anywhere on the map so in gold they could easily keep up and could match us buying u

This is somewhat similar to the AA Reg build that I run a lot. The key is to realize that it works great in some situations and horribly in others. Dont even try and play it against a team with an Erebus and UB on Cataract for example. I find that it gets stronger the more people are in the game since you have more ability to choose your matchups (Reg always has the problem that it matches up VERY poorly with a few DGs). Some comments: MoB is much more valuab

VoIP is a kind of big deal, but its really secondary to the largest advantage of premades: if you are on a premade you are essentially guaranteed that one of your teammates wont horribly die a whole bunch and singlehanded lose it for your team (unless your premade is just bad, but generally that doesnt happen wtih premades). The big disadvantage of a PUG is that you have THAT GUY WHO WONT STOP DYING on your team a fairly high percentage of the time, and you really cant overcome that nor

PUGs and premades generally require slightly different skillsets. I think that premades would require more skill if they played mostly other premades, but as things are, it seems like a lot of premades just spend time PUG stomping, which requires less skill than PUG vs PUG IMO. So yeah, I think that you should avoid premade elitism until they get the mechanisms in place where premades end up playing other premades almost always.
its a good item for sure. but Id like to mention if you are fully equipped with a narmoths ring by level 10 on beast then youve probably already won the game
Huh? Thats not that much gold to get those items. When I play an AA Reg, I can usually count on having a Mageslayer (plus Boots of Speed, Nimoth Chest, and Banded Armor) by level 10 in most games even in games that I end up losing. Of course, playing against good people will delay th

AA Reg is extremely strong in the right situations. Its also extremely weak in the wrong situations. But AA Reg also isnt that much squishier. Its going to be able to use more items for defensive/speed purposes since its not too dependent on mana. Sure at level 10 Mines Reg gets a snare on the mines that is very effective, but by that time the AA Reg is coming into his own anyway. On the other hand, AA Reg is strongly countered by UB and Erebus. So basica
Mines arn't fine. They need to be changed somehow. Just compare Mines to Hammer Slam. Mines are harder to dodge, have better AOE damage, can be placed at further range, and have all the utility advantages of being preplaced. Mines also get their slow effect at 4 skill points/level 10; Hammer Slam requires 5 skill points/level 15. Hammer Slam's only advantage is better single target damage in a single use, although for practical purposes that also requires using a boulder roll II (le

Yeah, once you get used to it you can pretty consistently dodge Reg mines. Really its the random minefields near a flag that get me more than anything.

109 Replies 178,709 Views

The Reg build is just bad. Stats over Snipe (1 point anyway) and AF? Just no. 1 point in Snipe is not about kill stealing. Its about the fact that you should be getting an assist on nearly every kill if you are good. Thats free gold for you and your team that you are passing up for a very minimal benefit in Stats or Scope II and III or whatever.

Yeah, I usually get Nimoth between Vlemish and Plenor. I also prefer to get 1 point in Soul Power and get that up and running sooner. A damage bonus like that is worth the most early in the game IMO. Still details like that probably vary game by game - you want to be flexible in your builds I guess.

Yeah, something isnt right. I've had a ton of lag games (3 in a row right now) and its not me because when somebody leaves from the lag things get better sometimes. Nobody has high pings or low sim speeds, but the game is still terrible.

Cataract could really use some more side buildings. As it is you spend too much time running back and forth defending your portals and gold flag since it doesnt take very long for them to get exposed every game.
