Well, alright - I'll keep hoping. Maybe the rousing success of the second expansion will reignite things and will be shortly followed by an announcement that Sins 2 is slated for a 4th quarter, 2010 release [e digicons][/e]

While I find Sins to be a wonderful experience and I feel that the Diplomacy add-on will flesh out the parts that needed it, the idea that no more will be forthcoming is quite disheartening. Reading that blurb gives me the impression that not only will the third micro expansion not come out, but that also SoaSE 2 will never find it's way onto our PC's. Perhaps I'm reading a little too much into it? I don't know - "complete their Sins of a Solar Empire experience " an
Who has that picture of Josie to post on here? ;-)
F/up @ Haree78 - I have Sins on one of my PC's with a single 8800GTX and 64-bit Vista on a 680i chipset, maxed out and with no problems. I also suspect it may be a heat issue or perhaps a defective card.
You can't buy a patch from Impulse, so I'm guessing you mean that it wants you to buy the game. If instead you're referring to Entrenchment, that's a mini-expansion (not a patch) that does cost money. Anyway, I'll assume you're talking about vanilla Sins and you legally purchased your game via some other outlet (Walmart, Best Buy, etc). If that's the case, you'll have to register it to get the updates. To do this, open up Impulse an
Whil awaiting Galaxy Forge to get updated to the current version I started messing around with the in-game custom map program. While choosing the planet type for my next random batch of gravity wells, I noticed there were two listings for "Random - Non Ice" while there were none for "Random - Non Volcanic." The first listing for "Non Ice" is top on the list of planet types, while the second listing is seventh on the list. They both work (no ice planets are created using ei
You'll want to go to the top-left corner of Impulse and click on the circle with the lightning bolt - that will give you the menu. As far as downloading an update for Entrenchment, that's the only way to do so and also the only way to update vanilla Sins beyond the point where you have it (vanilla is now on 1.17, while I believe you have downloaded the patch to 1.05).
Well, delayed until Summer is better than delayed until Fall or Winter (barring any year shenanigans). Just remember that we're all supposed to get it for free now that we have to wait a few extra months [e digicons]:-"[/e]
Now, according to IP laws, by posting this stuff are pretty much ensuring that it can't happen because IC could never prove they came up with the idea? Oh well, if you like it, baby it's free.
Just to clarify something, that's not true - IC/Stardock have the freedom to use anything posted on their forums without restriction.
is there any way to download an update through Impulse on one PC and transfer it to another, because i dont have an internet connection on the computer i play SINS on and im getting behind my mates who have it, so now i cant do LAN games cos they have the updatede version
Just to clarify: you can connect for a LAN game, but you can't get Impulse to connect to its server after having already purchased Entrenchment .
No, it will not have its own brick & mortar release. I've heard that there may be a three-pack or gold edition available when all three of the micro expansions are complete, but that's about it. If you want to play it now, buy it through Impulse (Stardock's direct download/storefront service).
Can someone please give me a hint as to what the "-Powerful new research subjects to improve starbase scaling late game" are so I can drool while waiting for the workday to end? [e digicons]:)[/e]
Well, at least they can be made a bit more deadly. Hmm ... it's been a little while since I worked on modding anything. Maybe I could have some fun with that.
I am admittedly unfamiliar with the modding process for Sins, but can the pirate ships be modded like the regular stock ships?
Odd Q - is there going to be a change list for the final release, today?
I would be all for a pirate-specific cap ship with unique and nasty abilities. I'd also like to see a pirate ship with a boarding ability that would effectively mimic the Rapture's Dominance ability, allowing a fleet to regrow itself if not given strong enough resistance. Ah, well - as it stands the pirates aren't bad, but I wish they were ;-)
edit - wrong thread
IIRC, it's like that in vanilla Sins. To be fair, it's either going to be ridiculously cheap or free, and by the point of game that you've done all that research and leveled up your Progenitor enough, free makes a little more sense to me than the pocket change it would otherwise cost.
Interesting stuff. I'm not at that PC at the moment, but I'll see what I can find later on.
Yep, they're stock. They're listed like the following: Huge Multi-System Random Map No Pirates.Galaxy and they have a modified date of 1/16/08 while the others have a modified date of 2/19/09 (using mm/dd/yy format)
Also running Vista 64 and it's working fine on there (for the time being, at least). However, something I noticed while going over the Galaxy folder to extract my custome maps was that the large & huge random maps didn't have the same modified dates as the other maps which struck me as odd. Were these perhaps in need of an update that the others got with the most recent patch?
Ahh - so it's the interaction between the two. Got it.
I've seen a couple mentions about the advent homing mines - they work perfectly fine for me. What is it that you're referring to so I can keep an eye out for it?
To be fair, this may also be a game balance issue between military and civilian reserach stations. With a military research station, you can be working on both the military and defense tech trees. Saving some of these for the civilian tech tree keeps its value up.
