Looking good. Congrats indeed!
Chromatism
A bit of input which I think it more UI related: 1. A way to see the actual cost of buildings/points needed to next Sovereign level. (Unless I'm missing them somewhere) 2. An easier way to see where a road will connect to when placing an outpost or settling a city. Perhaps highlight the tile the road will connect to? Having said that I love the way the roads are currently built, since I can focus less on the micromana
Brilliant stuff Brad, and everyone at Stardock! I only wish you the best success with Elemental, and you certainly deserve the break too. Have a good rest and we'll all be right here. Cheers!
I take it you bought the game from a street retailer or something similar? The problem is the game isn't actually released until Tuesday, which means that impulse has locked the serial codes. I'm afraid its more than likely that your copy won't work until the game's official launch, or for the August 23rd beta and pre-order early play time. Sorry about that. :S
I think... that's why its called a strategy game [e digicons][/e] Yes it would be galling to be beaten 1vs1 just because your opponent got lucky. And vice versa if you're the one about to smash that piffling rival kingdom into tiny pieces with your brand new dragon it would ultimately amount to an empty victory, even while laughing your sadistic little head off. But I thoroughly applaud this sort of thing in a full on multiple player game. It stands to reason that
Well I posted this over the 'Please reconsider this aspect of MP' post, but no harm in reposting it here just for record's sake: Oh well. That pretty well explains what the day 0 release will entail. Having said that I'm still quietly optimistic about what the future may bring. As others have said I don't mind watching tactical battles, but if people don't want them then fine! Surely an option can be implemented that simply auto resolves each conflict as it occu
Oh well. That pretty well explains what the day 0 release will entail. Having said that I'm still quietly optimistic about what the future may bring. As others have said I don't mind watching tactical battles, but if people don't want them then fine! Surely an option can be implemented that simply auto resolves each conflict as it occurs? However I also fully appreciate that Brad and all the good folk at Stardock are focussing on one hell of a Single Player experience, and that's fine
I honestly couldn't have put it better. Lovely reply there maxlongstreet! Exactly how I feel about it.
Quoting Twohawks, reply 15We need to keep in mind that the game was not intended at first to have MP.. Which, I think, is the right decision because the majority of people who play turn-based 4x strategy games play single player. You can't just take the single player experience and add multiplayer because that doesn't produce optimal gameplay (even though some people think this is what they want), and the last thing Stardock
I hope so, Windexglow, but as I understand it custom servers aren't going to be available at release, so no MP mods? I really wish the interviewer had followed up on the answer. I find this other Q&A troublesome as well: Out of the box, Elemental’s multiplayer will be essentially skirmish on fixed maps that have been pre-balanced (i.e. not randomly generated). Egads. I have R
Ditto to the above. I have several friends I'm eager to play this with, and whether its a cooperative Comp Bash or a somewhat more competitive affair I'd like the option to choose whether I want a more streamlined experience or the whole package. Choice is always extremely welcome!
Just too make the comment... Having a good old 5v5 in the early beta is a little irrelevant, considering that online play is disabled. I mean, sure! Use Hamachi for a network game, but that's not the whole point just ;) As far as I know, its just to make sure the engine is running smooth in differing hardware configs. Correct me if I'm wrong!
yeah i have maestro but they dont have an option for that when you try to preorder
Actually, Maestro is basically the new name for Switch. So to answer your question, in effect you have a Switch card. Just select that option and you should be absolutely fine.
I think that's a very interesting point Spartan. Despite the success of both the Gal Civ and Sins series, I'm of the opinion proportionately few gamers actually know the names Stardock, Iron Clad and the products they stand for. In this age of 'consolization' there are a great many gamers becoming frustrated with the current climate. Word of mouth can only get you so far (Hell! I've tried) so something like this could really present the publicity Frogboy and the Fraser Brothers
Yep! Having one try, I'm re-editing this post. I'm almost certain its the ship in the background of this screeny. You know? The one being blown up! https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/images/screenshots/Sins_Beta4_1920_3.jpg Cheers. (Actually and belatedly resizing the 'scrambled image' was the key! D'oh...)
They will email you a serial that you can use to download the game from Stardock, as long as you ordered FROM star directly. This email will come sometime between this afternoon EST and 8pm EST.
Absolutely. Stardock have managed this since the release of Galactic Civilizations 2. If my past experience is anything to go by, then you will receive your key today and the box later. That's how its gone for both the original Gal Civ 2
Aye. They said that all digital pre-orders would be completely handled by 8pm EST tonight. The mighty Frogboy speaks!
THIS is an AWESOME post. I Don't see EA doing this. Besides Ironclad/Stardock, nobody is into the gamer as much as Sins' and GalCiv's makers are. I've been into games since the 70's and I don't see this kind of thing very often. Actually almost brought a tear to my eye. This is why I buy these games from these guys. I KNOW FOR A FACT that it'll be worth EVERY PENNY, sight unseen. Signed:A loyal customer . ... . P.S.: Is this in the manual? lol It should be
Aye. In all honesty, one of my biggest gripes of the moment is how many games are being rendered all 'Flash' and no Substance by this shocking turn in the market. Its great to have all this technology, but PCs will always reign supreme in the areas of technological advancements, they're the best and most varied platform along with having one of the most flexible control schemes for both the RTS, FPS and Flight-Sim genres. Want to play Racers and Action Adventures? Just hook up a gam
Aye. Great post mate! I need to chat with you before I put my name down anywhere. Either way, thanks for the communication you sent the other day, I'm certainly looking at getting involved ;)
BSG would need an open connection map (ie, without Phase Lanes). IF an open connection map can be modded into Sins, then no problem (and I suspect it can be as that was how the original game was meant to be). IF it can't, then a BSG mod wouldn't work very well. Nor would Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5 mods work well without open maps.
I'm just going to jump on this, because I would actually have to disagree. Speaking of 'jump'
We currently have mod teams forming for both of those franchises. BTW: Nice post you should really consider getting involved in a project.
Heh. Many thanks mate. In point of fact, I'm applying for a course in Games Design this coming September... A little experience couldn't hurt. I might just do that, so cheers for the heads up!
I'm not quite sure how practical it is, but if you're looking for inspiration then might I suggest Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica? I think a problem I have with a lot of Sci-Fi series is the way they're franchised. You have story arcs, followed by fillers, followed by the season finalle which inevitably culminates in a cliff hangar ending to keep the viewer watching... and repeat! What really grabbed me about the 'Stories' above is that they are just that: Stories. All
Ahah! Many thanks. You know, you miss vital information like that you begin to wonder if its worthwhile inflicting yourself on other people in an RTS Multiplayer :NOTSURE:
Fantastic! So then, next question: I've purchased the Digital Download version. When can I update that for the $5 extra plus the shipping rate to acquire the box as well? I can't seem to find any viable method of doing that yet.
