I'm really bad at this game still, not played a proper game yet, but I'm liking it so far. I was the same, SupCom really disappointed me, but this game is great.

I've also just nabbed a copy of Dark Avatar but I'm having a different problem, didn't think it was worth creating a new thread for it though. My downloads are pretty slow, around 25kb/s, although it sometimes spikes up to 60, any recommendations on how I can speed it up? Or is that the best I'm gonna get?

People like it when they research a tech and it looks cooler/bigger/whatever than the last tech you had. You can always resize it in the ship builder.

I wouldn't have that many farms, I'd say one farm (of the best quality) is enough. I'd have Initial Colony structure 4 Factories 1 Starbase 1 farm 1 entertainment 1 econ capital rest trade Not necessarily in that order You might think it a bit strange to put an starbase on an economy capital, but if it's early in the game as you say, it might be worth having a starbase to give you an extra ship

Yeah I get this too, I don't think it's a bug, maybe intended. It's very annoying though and I think this is one thing I'd like gone. To all those people manually stopping each ship factor building though, you can just use the shipbuilding govenor to cancel them, go into the stats and graphs tab and click on the govenor tab, here you can set all shipyards building a certain type of ship to build a different type (or no ship).

What would be the point when you can have small fighters flying with them anyway? I suppose it means all your fighters would fly at the same speed as your carrier though, and it could mean that any fighters in these carriers don't count to the overall logistics of the fleet it's in.

When I make my freighter Mk II's I like to add 1 or 2 impulse Mk III engines and then a load of life support. This means my freighters can reach the most distant planets, which gives the trade route a good average weekly income.

I think you can imagine the starship production facility also having a large production facility in orbit around the planet for the large capital ships. Also, economic starbases do get extra revenue from ALL trade routes that pass through thier influence if you add the trading modules onto them (there are 3, you get the ability to build one with every part of the trade tree). You can think of these stabases as a kind of, refueling/rest/serv

My only annoyance with these things is if you build a trade good, and lose the planet, you don't get the trade good anymore and have to either take the planet back or buy the good off the other player. It annoys me that I don't have enough tiles to build wonders, but I'd rather keep it that way, I prefer to be challenged rather than everything handed to me on a silver platter.

I want to be able to play using metaverse to upload my scores, but I'm in university dorms so my internet connection is heavily firewalled. I have a program that will allow me to piggyback programs off another port at slow speeds but I can't find a way of changing the connection settings for GalCiv II. Is there any way to do this?

I think you've misunderstood there, I don't think auto-survey allows the survey ship to grab anomalies unless you have already found them. I personally don't bother with anomalies anymore. I put them on rare becasue I find it distracts me too much from exploring star systems to find habitable planets.

Actually, I find that music on the main menu rather annoying, I much prefer the in-game music, well I don't really like the in-game music either. It's not that it's bad, it just doesn't suit my tastes, it's almost right, but I can't put my finger on why I don't like it. I think I'm just spoilt by some of the excellent music from X3.

Basically all the engines do is make it so you can get to the target world quicker, once the trade route is established the trade ships only move 1 square per turn. I think this is more of a game mechanic than what actually would happen, since you would only recieve any money once the freighter returns home. I think you can imagine it as a whole fleet of ships moving backwards and forwards all the time, and the fact you get less money when the trade

I don't think you can switch victory conditions in game, if there is it would be only through cheating as it would make it easy to stop an AI player who is about to win by turning off the victory he was about to do. I now always turn off cultural and research victories now, I'd rather blast my way to victory.

So you could imagine these things being like, interplanetary little chefs. Frieghter pilots on thier way to a planet stop off to get some rest and some food giving you some revenue, the more trade routes theat pass by, the more money you get. I'll remember that next time, I usually just plop econ starbases next to my routes but I'll start putting them near others too.

Yep, you can set a galaxy wide spending policy via the policy screen but you can then set each individual colony to focus on an individual aspect by clicking on the bullseye in the top right corner of each resource box. It makes it even quicker to research stuff, you can set a planet to fo

One of the reasons I was attracted to buying GCII was the lack of strict DRM, in my opinion, DRM is a completely useless waste of time and money, because no matter what, people will find a way around it. I applaude Stardock for thier policy on how they have tried to avoid piracy of thier software. They havn't done it by treating everyone as a pirate, but by rewarding the people who do pay for thier game. Not only am I impressed by this, bu
