Defragmentation is absolutely essential for people using their pcs for media. Proper defragmentation soft, like Diskeeper or whatever, is both faster and more effective than the laughably poor XP defrag.

I agree the system needs to be changed, at VERY least to only charge for *used* production. I played for weeks before I worked out I was charged for full turns of production regardless of how much I was using, and that there was no carry-over, or ability to build up to your output (ie output 600, $150 ship, produce four per turn).
Well, ships and tiles are worth more than random events. Sounds like luck is far more useful than creativity. Hey, how about bravery? I mean, while we're talking about ambigous bonuses with uninformative descriptions...
Hilariously, he thought it had multiplayer because it's good, and good games have multiplayer. Logic isn't his strong suit, clearly. He even rants about not MP specifically but CO-OP, something which has only rarely been implemented even in genres like FPSs. But OWR PUR BORED MARINES!
Or they could announce the issue a few turns early, to allow you to diplomatise your way into the result you want. As-is, it's just a random, largely useless, occasionally deeply annoying event.
Hopefully 1.2 will be as UI focused as 1.1 was AI focused - there's a laundry-list of changes requested in various threads, and one patch could fix them all.
What's the point of saying 'yes the UI could be improved... but DON'T improve it, because we can all learn to work around it'? Why is it so hard for some people to accept that a game they like might have flaws? I like GC2, but the UI needs improvement. It's inconsistent, illogical and nonstandard. Really, implementing all the UI changes the forums have been asking for since launch would significantly improve game flow. Should this NOT happen, just because the game is good as it is
I love people who can't read the box, the manual, the website... THERE MUST BE A LAN BUTTON HIDDEN SOMEWHERE am i rite?
Yes, it was absurd that a battle could start, and ships would not get a chance to fire even once. This build is much more stable. I'm going to upgrade all my ships to a ridiculously-jewelried design, see what happens...
Christ, somebody mentioned the 'unfleeted ships move one at a time' thing! My GOD that's annoying. I'll just twiddle my thumbs while I watch the same move animation a dozen times... wheee....
The fix for this is to allow the AI to form opposing power blocs. This is somewhat done using ethics and such, but I've never had a galaxy split into a cold war between two rival alliances. I've always been able to just add civs to my 'stable' until I've got all of them. GOTTA CATCH EM ALL is not a particularly realistic political system.
I miss space monsters.
Sorry, the OP is wrong. In a battle WHERE SPEED CAN DEFEAT RANGE you can board ships. For instance, a modern naval battle does NOT have boarding actions, because you can't board at 220km and you'll be dead long, long before you close to grapple-and-cutlass range. Further, to board you'd need to basically immobilise the enemy ship, at which point it's worthless anyway. It's more suited to specific situations than some general tactic you'd design entire ships around. Thing
Yeah, it's struck me that other UI options have been added or tweaked since launch, and yet this isn't getting any attention. It's an annoying function that is arguably based on a bad idea and there's already a button to go to the next ship anyway. I see it as a worthless-yet-frustrating feature, and I'm not alone.
That actually makes sense. So if I set to 'full fleet battles', I won't get 1v1 but I'll still have full fleet battles?
So the crashing-on-autosaving issue is known? It's very common late-game on larger maps to crash every second time the autosave kicks in.
The same thing has happened to me for ages. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be intentional - but I don't really want to watch my Pursuit Ship knock off single transports.
I'm not going to embarrass anyone by quoting Paramount on the non-canon status of Star Trek novels. They're all worthless, and who cares who wrote them, or helped? Paramount says they're not part of continuity, the end. Even those two VOY novels written by Jeri whatever have been de-canonised. 5.1MW per emitter... compared to gigaton medium turbolasers... hmmm. No competition there. PS, turbolasers aren't lasers, they behave nothing like lasers, and the name of a weapon means not
I agree with all the UI points. I'm as frustrated as anyone about the attitude toward UI design on these forums. Learning quirks and workarounds is what you do with bad UIs. A good UI is intuitive, consistent, and informative. The GC2 UI has problems, as much as I like the game. Things like the autofocus-shift are mindbendingly frustrating. You move a ship around, say scouting, looking for things... then WHAM, you're looking at the other side of the map. Why? There's a TAB butto
Yeah, I don't find anything objectionable in this. I hope attention stays fixed on issues like the UI and the diplomacy system, because I want to see improvement in those areas. The ability for the AI to send diplomatic messages, while the player can't, is one of my biggest problems with the game. It's not a diplomacy system - it's a trade system. There's no communication, no negotiation - just trade. ZOMG the fanbois might yell at me! <img src="http://images.stardock.
I used to overbuild ALL THE TIME. I'd kill my own economy by expanding too fast.
Yeah, it'd be GREAT if you could add a module that let you add a building or something. It wouldn't matter how much it cost - but the ability to build 1 or 2 tile platforms would be neat. And yes, the most reasonable ring would be an Orbital-style, 100,000km one, not a star-encircling one like Ringworld.
Call me crazy... but I'd like a more flexible upgrade dialog. For instance, sometimes I want to upgrade all my frontline War Ships *now*, in one turn... but for my reserves, I'm happy for that to take longer, say four or five turns. I don't want my ENGAGED War Ships to be upgraded at all, since that loses them a turn and sets their hp to 1. So, cheaper upgrades for 'takes longer', and a way to choose which ships take how long. Good idea?
That'd be interesting... particularly if you could link defence tactics to buildings or something. Then designing ships and defending planets would be a metagame between you and the nearest civs. Also, they need to fix the AI planet assault decisions. If I leave one planet defenceless in the center of my area, they will ALWAYS send all their transports there, through all my defences. They get minced, even though the ships they used for escort could have killed the defences at a bor
I'd love to read guides for your development - I find it very, very hard to stay out of war for more than a few months.
