I remember on one of the older versions, ships stacked with starbases fought in the same battle (ie as a fleet). Doesn't this happen anymore?

To be honest, I don't see the point of saving 'full' designs. I've begun saving 'templates', empty versions of my neat and kewl ship designs - but saving the fully-armed and equipped ships is nuts. It's unlikely you'll ever be in exactly the same economic and technological situation again, so you'll want to tweak it anyway. Tweak = lose all your guns etc... so why save them at all?
Heh. The Halo Orbital was a pretty small one by Banks' standards. I don't think you can put planet tiles on anything but planets, and I don't think you can add planets atm. I sure would like to see some better starbase models, though!
I actually noticed this fix when playing. As posted, the beta area was slightly too large. The new one is much more accurate.
Heh. Pwned. Alibi, it's interesting that so many grammar versions are available in the raceconfigs. Why aren't these options usable from the race config screen in-game? At least it should remain simple to add extra naming options... but it's odd that the game has hidden options.
Wouldn't that result in your ruler being called 'Emperor Lord Jorge'?
With 1.1 I've had to turn way down the background stars et al.
It's so horribly broken. I've never seen the AI go for ethics, and I usually don't bother: I have since 1.1 comes out, and the evil weapons are far too unbalanced. 12 versus 3? It's not an 'advantage', it's making a mockery of the whole weapons tree!
I don't think that the bonus ethics things are 'overpowered', but they're DEFINATELY overpowered for their position on the tree. Not even consistently: psionic missiles, for example, are only slightly better than contemperous missiles, but psionic beams kick the shit out of phasers. NLC aren't that much better than DS, but you can GET NLC much earlier than DS, which is the problem. I agree that the ethics-bonus techs should be moved around a bit, so that you don't get their 'super weapons' to
It's one of the reasons why I'd like sabotage or limited orbital bombardment. Shutting down their morale tiles would make it a lot easier.
Oh it *WAS* that guy! Thanks for the mental link, QC.
If they won't trade planets, then take the damn things off the trade list. OTOH, I think there are cases to be made for planet trades, even 'ripoff' ones like you propose. If I offer an AI upwards of 40,000 and some techs, it IS worth it to lose the planet. The planet might take 100 turns to make that much money, and getting it all at once is a MAJOR boost. Obviously, planets with wonders etc (which should be noted in the trade screen) would be near impossible to purchase. Frankly
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I was quite a ways into my game when someone addressed my ruler as 'Emperor Emperor Dalek', and I was pretty shocked.
I notice many of these worlds (when eventually conquered conventionally) are FULL of embassies and the like. The AI seems to realise that they're at risk.
Yeah, that's my feeling. However, since the dip text simply uses tags, it'd be a case of introducing the most (grammatically) accurate one, rather than a rework of the system. Of course, I'd like a 'change title' popup when you change governments, and that would probably be more effort.
I just finished playing a game with a civ styled on the Daleks from Doctor Who, and it's made me wish for more than four lines to describe the ruler and the empire. For instance, it's a Dalek, many Daleks, the Daleks, the Dalek Emperor or Emperor. Not 'Emperor Dalek Emperor', not 'Emperor Emperor' - a result of having the name be the same as the automatically assigned title. In custom, you simply pick a name for your race (one line), a name for the ruler (one line) and a name for yo
Marcathonas has some strange ideas. 'Breaking' a planet is right up there in wanked-out scifi... the best we could hope to do is depopulate the larger mammals. However, I think they deliberately took out cruise missiles. I don't really see why they'd put them back in - like many other features suggested, it's a 'pure cheese' suggestion. Yes, it would be neat to do. It would SUCK DONKEY ANUS to have it constantly done to you - and if the AI was built to use the feature, it's be don
Yeah, with all the effort put into the AI making better decisions, its odd that they trade away their dip bonuses so easily. Like many others, I never *ever* trade a dip bonus tech. That gives you a pretty major advantage.
I agree with the low hp. Arguably they start of as the cargo-hulls of starbases... however, there should be modules that add to HP - even doubling would be nice. Of course, SBs should never be able to take 80lp of ships. That said, posting two average ships with a starbase increases it's effectiveness immensly, since it usually draws fire from the base for a few rounds. The only bases I see get blown up are poorly prepared ones - the starbase defence techs are cheap, so it's easy t
Yeah, I always use cash to fill out the trades. However, the addition of 'total RP to get tech' and 'RP cost of tech' to the right-click popup would at least let you know how much it cost YOU to make it.
That's a fair point - I'm not sure how much such things can be modded. However, since the weapons et al change throughout the game - and the only significance of the Defiant hull in ST is that is isn't full of useless sensors and lifesupport modules, and contained cutting-edge weapons and defences - I'm not sure how that will translate. In any case, excellent models. I hope you get through the rest of the modelling without any problems! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL
The hard points aren't always the problem - rotating a single part shows that most of them don't have their attach points at the center. Mounting a pair of anything will almost always result in one being a bit further forward, or a bit lower... and of course there are entirely missing hardpoints and the backwards ones. None of this has been a secret since the game launched - particularly the Yor hulls, which are pretty terrible in this regard. It's frankly damning that people are advocating '
There are plenty of ways to buy a game online without resorting to 'LOLZ CRACZOR': M&B accepts all kinds of things like paypal, even money orders. The game is about as indie as you can get, and costs a whole US$12 last time I checked - you'd have to be pretty lame to crack it (and this coming from ME). Anyway, isn't asking for cracks etc an immediate IP ban? It really should be.
Yeah, as much as it makes sense it makes one defence branch far more valuable. Moving it to even minturisation would be better, I think... unless they added 'planetary shielding' and 'uber-jesus hull plating' to the ends of the other two.
