Could I get a copy of that file as well? I found a file called dxdiagn.dll, not dxdiag.dll, on both my Vista and Win7 machines (both x64). I copied the Vista version over, which cased TA to say that it required Directx 9.0c installed. As it is, with the default dxdiagn file, it will start up, tell me dx mode is disabled, play the first second of audio (no video) from the opening cutscene, and then crash.

An option I think would be really fun is the ability to "detonate" a gas giant in a completely uninhabitable system, like in 2010. That star system would then become binary, and some of the planets could get a random PQ boost due to the extra solar energy. Of course, this would have to be far towards the upper end of the tech tree, as it would require something like a nanite swarm or super-advanced black monoliths (again, 2010) to convert enough of the planet's atmosphere to hydrogen to sustain
My last couple of games I kind of accidentally started using a naming system. Similar to Ostsol's, except I started out clueless, calling my ships different sci-fi ship classes based on the hull. That, and I add the ships weapon types in order of power, followed by the ship's speed. For example, one of my huge hull warships is called SD-GM19 Sagan, for Star Destroyer (as I've taken to calling my huge warships), heavy gun attack/light missile attack, m
In the last two games I played with the Lucky characteristic (gigantic galaxy), I found aound 15 Rangers. My enemies found a couple, too. Two fleets of those things really turn around a failing war effort...
