Ahhh the ole Civ IV Tiny/Small map exploit to beat the highest difficulty. Well I have never accepted that as a win myself. You haven't won the difficulty until you've beaten it on the most advanced settings of that difficulty. Meaning Gigantic map with all the races and common everything. None of this abundant everthing so the human player can get a huge colony base early in the game. THEN when you can beat that on the highest difficulty come back and talk to me. <img src="http://images.stardoc

Actually I look forward to the day when people say the reason they want human multiplayer is because they are tired of getting BEAT by the computer AI! That days a comin, maybe not in my lifetime, but, I will predict that for the future.
I like this feature of the game, keeps the challenge going well into the end game. If I were the AI I would do the same thing to the human player, much like human players gang up on AI's!!! Remember? You all know who you are!! Hehe
You have to play on a higher difficulty than cakewalk if you want the AI to play and expand! lol
You guys are missing the most important point. It's all about keeping the game "challenging" during the middle and end game. What good is it to surrender to YOU when you are winning or even losing. It's about you overcoming the "challenge". Even in games where I play with other people, even when I have an ally, it's just for MY benefit, even though I know when they ally it's for THEIR benefit. Nobody allies in a wargame for the sake of the OTHER guy. Even as an ally I'll do everything to ruin yo
Heh if you think this is bad you should try the EA forums for THE SIMS 2 lol, that's the slowest loading forum and posts of any forum I've ever visited. And yes this one is slow (especially for me on dialup), and I get those occassional page errors as well. But, it's not really the forum that suks, it's the servers and the machines behind the forum.
[Player A has discovered a Precursor Ranger! Player B has disconnected. Perhaps to ameliorate this, such random event can be changed to "Scanners have detected a derelict Precursor ship drifting through space" (in a random loaction drifting in a random heading), so all players can try sending their ships out to intercept and capture it to improve their research. Then people will then to stay around for the next goodies to come by. Maybe some derelict ships can still have active
Well that makes more sense of why it happened then, since it only landed 500 of my troups instead of the 1000 I brought. See, I had no idea how many to bring, I just wanted to see the land combat portion of the game. And I didn't know the entire population of the enemy planet had to be defeated. So the 16,784 sounds reasonable for them to have since I went back and noticed that they had a 300% modifier on that tile that the xeno farm was on. Good thing I got those 2500 to join me. lol I woulda l
Research completion times aren't always correct either. I had one tech that showed 1 turn to complete and I had to press the turn button twice. No real biggie, but, I do adjust my domestic settings for optimal performance, not to waste anything if I can. And I love large planets, great for industrial, merchant or research capitals. I get ones like that and can churn out medium ships in 1 turns or make them into research capitals and focus research for oodles of research points, same f
Yeah I could see where making every planet habitable cound turn into a long drawn out game. I remember MOO II games like that because of the techs that allowed terraforming uncolonizable planets. It wouldn't be something I would knock as long as it was "OPTIONAL". I wouldn't want it to be a core part of the game though You can now turn on abundance and get quite enough planets to colonize on just about any size galaxie setting. Give that a try.
Ok I'm playing my first game on cakewalk and finally decide after so many 100 years to attack one of the AI opponents to see what combat is like. Well the first thing I noticed is I had 2 transports in the group of ships, but, it only landed one of them, 500 troops. lol vs 16,784 of the Terran troups. (how'd they get so many troups or were these just citizens?) Anyways I take the bottom choice of dropping propaganda and get a little over 2500 of the Terrans to join my side. So here we are 3000 v
My stance on MP is if/when you do decide to create one, be sure it's PBEM first and foremost. PBEM is a growing and very popular form of MP now since the kiddies of AOE and other online games have practically ruined TSP/IP type of online multiplaying. I don't LAN, so, I have no need for that feature either. Though "hotseat" would be nice so my wife and son could play with me on ONE computer. (not all of us can afford a computer in every room). PBEM has no time restrictions like online games do.
I've been reading how some people are just farming planets to gain merely the tax income, barely worrying about the level of morale the people have. Thus exploiting the economy of the game. Let's face it slaves do not produce as much to a civilization as a well balanced well organized unit. We're talking about the future here and slavery should be something that is long past, but, of course if someone wants to be a tyrant in the game, just make them not get paid dearly for it. <img src="smiles/S
Play higher difficulties, have you beaten the most extreme level? You're wanting to mod the AI and you probably haven't even touched on most of the AI's in the game yet.
I'm one that usually waits on bargain bin prices on sequels of origional games. But, when I saw GalCiv II's design and improved features I broke that rule and preorderd about a month in advance. I just got my copy yesterday from Amazon.com and already spent too many hours just soaking it all in. The ship design feature is fantastic and I like the Ascendency type of planet structure. I loved Ascendency, cept too bad the AI was just crap. Once I've played the game about a week I will goto all my n
GalCiv II's combat engine reminds me of statistical baseball games. (which I like), you build up a team of good players and then you auto calc the league out. Either in days, weeks, months or the entire season. Makes for fast and enjoyable seasons while the player concentrates on "building" and "improving" his team. I never was a big fan of baseball games where you threw every pitch or told every base runner what to do or all the infield positions. I just wanted to build the team and manage only
No matter how much they rant or rave they can't kill the professional reviews nor stop the game from selling 100's of thousands of copies. Psychologically I guess they think they are significant, but, really no one is. Gaming is like a hive and just because some drone doesn't like his job doesn't mean the rest of the hive won't survive and flourish. Just ignore them, if you feed the trolls you're just letting them control you and that's what they want "attention". Don't give it to them, ignore t
Hard Lock during first encounter with another race. I found the Terrans the first race I encountered and silly me I clicked on the "next race" arrow underneath his picture when there was no next race to goto. The game locked up and I couldn't do anything but shut my system down. CTRL+ALT+DELETE didn't even work to clear the lock. The music continued to play but nothing else would function.
