I've played two games online and both games were won by someone massing just Illuminators. It's a trend that's turned me off to online play. The game ceases to involve any strategy when the key to winning is simply massing one type of ship faster than the next player.
RTS games in a nutshell.

What a great game, it models the thing that has brought down Empire after Empire: Imperial Over reach. Historically many empires have fallen because they have got to large, the cost of maintaining forward outposts overwhelms it and it is then torn apart by smaller hostile enemies at its periphery. Even today this holds true. Look at the USA, its government runs a huge multi trillion dollar deficit to finance its war machine. That is perhaps one thing the game should model, the
I wasnt replying to you Friendly Misanthrope , but to the poster before you. I have through the entire post pointed out quite clearly and specifiacly the mistakes the AI makes. As a consequence I have been called a spoilt brat and a liar and worse (not by you). I just dont understand the mind set behind those responses. They react though I have done something Hitleresque.
I just fdont understand posts like this. I am pointing out the faults in the AI because I want my enjoyment of the game to continue, which to happen needs the AI to be improved in very specific key areas, not because I want to rubbish the game. Why when you criticise the AI does everyone go off on massive hysterical rants based purely on totaly incorrect assumptions. Why cant we just have a calm balanced discusion.? For the record
AI sometimes builds slow ships I have in 4 games played on gigantic never seen an AI ship above speed 2, regardless of the context. Wether it was attacking me or I was attacking it. I believe that conditions may prompt the AI to build above speed to 2 but those prompts need to happen more often
If you find the AI good, then you can express your satisfactiion, you dont need to be so rabid in your attacks on those that might not be as satisified as you. You faill to make any rational arguements and just resort to ad hominem attacks on those that arent at happy as you. You basicaly accuse me of being a liar and a spoilt brat. As I have said several times in this thread, I like GC2 and think the AI is strong in some areas. However I point out the FACTS that it has some o
The AI should anticipate my attacks more' or whatever The thread has contained criticisms of the AI MUCH MUCH more specific than this. Basicaly the people coming to defend the AI have not exposed its weaknesses yet via gameplay. You will eventualy. Then you will be in the same boat as the rest of us
I think of this as exploiting a stupid AI. If you had ships that had a 14 attack versus their 4 attack they wouldn't throw themselves on you. But have a ship with a 4 attack and +10 benefit from a starbase and they will continue to waste every single ship on you. I am realizing this now, but
I only play on gigantic. The starbase rush works best if you can find two enemy planets close together. With this approach there is a tipping point after which you can sytematiclay dismantle any enemy empire. They will exhaust there fleets trying to take back the planet/s that has fallen and you can just keep pumping fresh fleet assets into the mix. Soon there is point where there is hardly any enemy left in the sky and you can just steamro
Lets say you have a fleet of 4 2/0 0/1 0/0 ships. x 4 = 8/0 0/4 0/0 Then you bould the modules +1 all attacks +1 all defence (just 3 construcotrs) You now have 1 fleet of 3/1 1/2 1/1 x 4 = 12/4 4/8 4/4 (remember this is just from 3 cons) So instead of the constructors you could biuld 3 ships. for 6/0 0/3 0/0 add to the combat power of the first fleet = 14/0 0/7 0/0 . So 14/0 0/7 0/0 v 12/4 4/8 4/4 Though the most important thing to keep in min
Look. nearly all the criticism in this post has been constructive. It is not vague unspecific mud slinging but observation of very specific flaws in the AI. It is just a FACT that the AI m
I think emperors new clothes is an excellent discription. The AI is excellent in one regrds only, and that is in its global relations to you as a player as expressed via the trade screen. In all other areas it is Meh- to poor. It makes a terrible job of planet development, which is a undeniable fact. It spams un upgraded starbases which are effectively useless, again another fact. It never biulds ships above speed 2, fact. There
The thing is that the starbase you biult to take the planet will now defend the planet against the inevitable counter attacks. IIf you have biult the appropriate combat bonuses onto the starbase a very small fleet will basicaly totaly deystroy muliple fleets much more powerfull than yours were it not for the starbase modifiers. The enemy will exhaust itself trying to retake the conquered planet. 9 constuctors? you will need no more than
You can use mil star bases for offensive purposes on any map. Got your eye on an enemy planet? Enemy got the upper hand technologicaly? never mind the mil star base is the answer. You need to have a small fleet of constructors biult up so you can move in construct the mil starbase so that its sphere of influence falls over the target planet, use the starbase to boost the required attack/defence attributes of your fleet and then move in for the kill. The key is to have bet
