Upgrading is REALLY wierd. First of all I think the time estimation is often times a lie ... also there HAS to be some carryover on social production, at least when upgrading. I play with auto-upgrader and I've seen an entire planet upgrade maybe 10 buildings in 2-3 turns when I got a new tech. Of course the time estimation was something like 5 weeks per, but in less than 5 weeks ALL were upgraded. Also wierd things happen when buying an upgrad

The solution I used was to restart that particular episode of the campaign. The next version of Dithir had 15 open spots. Not sure what happened to the one that had only three.
I resurrecting this old post because Dithir has only three squares that will take spies in my campaign, the other two are a space port and initial colony. How do I get four on the planet when only three are available? Thanks
I recommend Subversion, but you seem to be a Microsoft shop, so I kind of doubt you'd switch, its very cool though.
Your own survey ship can auto-detect anomalies too. Just set the survey checkbox and let it go, it *knows* where they are. AI has the same advantage. Mark
I enjoy the economy changes as well, once you learn how to run the early game, (hint: build markets first, don't auto buy the first factory) My economy can keep up with the AI on crippling. At some point in the game my taxes are set at 22% just to get the population growth increase by having 100% morale, more people more money. I really like the fact that mid game is still a losing possibility. Before if you lasted till mid game it was another two hours of 'clean up', not fun. <br/
Gigantic and tiny maps are the two easiest ways to win. Tiny because of rushing and Gigantic because you can usually control the flow of battle. For a real challenge, play on medium. We're probably going to update the Metaverse scoring so that there's a general set of bonuses as you approach medium. That's fantastic, I always p
Another way to ask, what other cool things would you not be able to do if you did this? Where on the priority list would this feature go? Mark
I'm going to say NO. Against most by what I read. The reason is that I'd always have the options set to OFF when playing Metaverse. These would ruin the game, especially if they happened early on. Whatever strategy you'd been working on would go Poof. Stardock works very hard on this game and the resources could be placed elsewhere, I imagine most everyone would set the switch to off when they cared about the outcome. Mark
Feel free to post a link to another post if this has been answered. Using the Torians as an example. They have a +25 morale. If I add ability points to Morale it drops to +10 (assuming I used 1 point). Now, does this do away with the inherent Torian +25? Or is it added? It appears to disappear the +25. Is that by design to keep players from getting +55 morale with Torian? Thanks in advance
space shuttle that can get 1000 lines of code right first try, Yeah and they wrote it in Assembly. And if they found a bug it was easier to rewrite from scratch than to find and fix the bug. Personally, bring on the bugs.
Stormbringer, A program, any program, is never finished. It can always be tweaked and improved. If you wait till it's perfect to release, you'll never release. Where I work, we release early and release often. Seems like Stardock is similar. Mark
Ok, a big thanks to the help here, especially to Kblore. I played a medium/crippling last night with Torians/Universalists. I tried to keep every colony except my home world at 100% morale. I did not build very many buildings at all early on. I got a couple of 2500BC anomolies so there were a couple of +morale buildings I bought to keep them at 100%. The others I just let build slow, my Social Production was <15%. My economy held steady throughout the expand phase. The +25% morale
My system is probably middle of the road, I paid <$400. Includes a 3000+ AMD (I think thats 2.5 Ghz?) The video card is important mine is a Nvidia 6600GT, by no means the best but I've never seen a card related problem.
Thanks for the help. I'll try and keep the population happier so they don't leave, which is why I struggled last game. Buying too many improvements probably screwed me early, they cost money to maintain. I can see it's going to take a certain feel, trying to balance the economy and everything else. Thanks again
I've tried the Yor twice, and Arceans twice. But can't beat a medium galaxy on crippling yet. I turn up the difficulty everytime I win, and I must be missing something. I play on smaller galaxies cause I like the quicker games. I play with 4 random opponents without randomizing the intelligence. The Intensive Algorithms is on. Tech trading is on, minors are on. Thanks for the help, I spent some time searching the forums and got some help but just looking to see i
Unlike a human I don't think the AI is aware of the size of galaxy it is playing in. Human beings do things differently when we know we are in a gigantic galaxy. I imagine there are some AI tweeks that could make them better in that case.
If the computer players used as much time as the human to plan their work, I'd imagine CPU cycles wouldn't be such a big deal. Of course you'd probably have trouble selling the game. Thanks for caring.
too much micro for me. I like watching the inevitable. Leave it as it is. My two pennies
Very appropriate title, I have trouble fathoming how anybody has the time (other than the game designer of course) to worry about this stuff. I guess I'm in the other camp. But suffice it to say, I like this a whole lot better than MOO2, I think it must be the focus on single player. So thanks for that one. That screen shot of the MOO2 custom race screen takes me back though.
These are taxpayers. So if your government was starving you, how long would you pay taxex. 2 weeks seems magnanimous to me.

I was making just under 6 figures a year. I was a good dad to three young kids. I was a devoted husband with a beautiful wife. Then... I bought a download of GalCiv2 from StarDock. Now I can't seem to do anything else. I haven't even started designing ships yet and I'm hopelessly addicted. I haven't been this addicted to a game since Wolfenstein was released while I was in college.
Just to add a 'me too' Can't save a ship as the same name as another ship, even if you restart the campaign/game. Seems to hold onto the references.
