Downloading now. UPDATE: It ran for about 2 minutes then froze. That is harsh because you had some major mojo going-on in that game - too bad.

@Iron - I'll try the right click. Regarding the tilde I have held it several times and try to get ships to move in different areas but I guess I must be missing some fundamental concept of movement because I cant get them to go where I want. On a different topic: I have mentioned a few times that the type of game I would like this to be would one of a combination of a several classic titles plus Homeworld. For those of you that might not know the classic except Mast
I have a $15K HPC system. I'm willing to give it try if anyone has the files already setup. I been wanting to try to push this beast anyway.
If you guys want I could set up a modding forum on the basically inactive forums on my domain for projects and people could UL them for others.
Additionally it is a beta yet. So I have assumed that most systems are in basic form right now. So the depth we would expect from the different systems is simply not there yet.
Still open for me so its 53%. I'll compromise with lanes from stars to other stars however.
I have two G80s in SLI on a 30" at 2560 res and I'm in awe of the majesty of some of the suns. The last one I looked at I would swear was a real live image of the sun minus the plumes. I want to make a DreamScene file out of it for WC. But the 64Bit Vista version is not published yet for OD.
Another Stars! fan - its all good. That was the egghead space sim game to end all games. I am wholeheartedly on board with introducing all the concepts of it to this game! Once done mix it up with some Pax and MoO elements then peppered with HW glitter & glitz and I think this will be the ultimate space sim for this decade.
I'm of the same opinion as you. I want this game to be truly epic. I would like to see a 10 stage tech tree with each stage having five tiers. That way each stage would account for a 10% total improvement in that area and each tier would be 2% at a fundamental level. The tiers could then be customized for each race and the variables could be adjusted as needed. There could also be "plug-ins" bonuses for the races to boot in one of the tiers at every other stage or something like that.
I still have not seen the AI colonize a planet which it has to travel through a star to get to.
Those are some nice tactical ideas. I also think the electronics (jamming and counter) elements of the game need to be developed. So yo could have anti missle or ECCM classes -etc... Food for thought.
I think the exact opposite. An open map would be easier for the AI defensively because it would only have to consider local targets for each planet and can prioritize high value objects on a planet by planet bases. This should allow for it to defend more appropriately. It can also evaluate firing arcs and service radius from the center point of the planet. This would allow for interlocking fields of fire and 360* coverage. The current system simply does not seem to do this at all. More
Ronald Palmer hit the nail on the head with the problem for the current system. As I have said in a few of my prior posts I stomp the AI with a wall of guns and hangers. I wait for the big fleet to jump in then focus fire power on the capitals subsequently waste them then mop up. Shortly after I send my token fleet of maybe 10 capital ships and 20 or so escorts back along the same path to the AI planet and utterly trash it because the AI gun placement is random and it does not cover the entry po
This is an idea I have had for some time, since MoO to be exact. A most excellent suggestion to be sure. I hope it sees the light of day. If it does get implemented then it would also be neat to be able to add custom fleet icons and track fleet stats to boot. I know it is a bit much but each component of the game should be looked at like a separate system in my opinion.
Without beating a dead horse I have to say I'm firmly in the camp with Paradoxnt and Jams3. The ideal space sim game for me would be MoO (mechanics and tactics) + Stars! (logistics and scale) + Pax Imperia (platform and weapons design) + Homeworld (multiplayer and visuals) all updated and tweaked out for the latest in HPC with all the options (of course).
The suns in my game look fabulous and realistic except for the flares which from what I understand are not a daily event. It would be neat however if you have a fleet nearby soaking up some extra AM hiding if a flare would happen and the fleet were to take damage.
Clan creation should be an earned right. One should have something like a 90% or higher personal victory score with the AI on normal given the default variables. Additionally there could always be tables adjusted for different settings. I'm sure you guys get the idea. Shoot SD and IG could create a "Clan Leader" mini campaign and anyone who beats it with certain predefined stats gets a special screen telling them they are worthy and asks if they are ready to take on the challenge of forming a cl
I like the on/off idea for anything really as it adds more tactical depth. So I support the idea. I also like the idea of lowering the cost but the efficiency should also be lowered. For example only very small mass ships should be stopped for a level 1 inhibitor -etc... I would also like to be able to move objects after I have placed them. Hell truth be told I would like to see them orbit the planet as it adds to visual surrealism which is quite high in the game so far.
UPDATE I have had a couple hours with the new version and I have the following thoughts and comments. They are in no particular order. 1. What is the benefit of heavy fighters? 2. Are Orbital refineries for meteorite systems just as trade stations are for normal planets or should they be placed in both types of systems? 3. I got a crash on load when I tried to zoom out at the exact time the startup sound effect started. It only happened once. 4. For
It is the number the mini dump named the file. I just removed the brackets. Come to think of it the 04.06 is likely the date -duh! I dont know about the 10.12 however. BTW I found the save files. Strangely they are hidden in some new user "roaming" directory in Vista. I have UL it to one of my domains. This is the Link BTW: If anyone else needs a place to U
OK with the new patch I keep getting a crash that is repeatable 100% I would attack it to this post but we cant UL - sad. I will email it to [email protected] The file name default has this in all of them: v1.04.06.10.12 I would include my save game as well but I cant seem to find it. The crash happens with in 3 minutes of the save.
Its not like the PC player base is largely inclined to even own a 360. Frankly I have never been able to quite understand the appeal of a console system. To me it is like a super dumbed down PC system on training wheels. Then again the average person is pretty low on the IQ chart. Additionally I'm not sure RDM would stop a fan project unless it is a pure for profit venture and even those would depend on scale I think. He is very supportive of the fan base and wants to keep it at a hi
I hope the music has some ancient Greek/Roman themed stuff in it as well as tribal sounds. In my opinion the best type of music would be aria based with a strong melancholy feel that evokes a sense of hope nonetheless. A great example of this is the Divinitus song by Jeff van Dyck from RTW. I would also theme the sounds by race. The baddies can get some Omen sounding stuff. The good guys can get some gospel oriented tunes and the neutral race can have some native American sounds.
As I said on the SLI forums I have been following this project for about two years and it is a true labor of love. RDM should be talking with these guys. Because with a little official support it has the promise to quite possible become the all time best series to game product. When one considers the Srar Trek and Star Wars fiasco titles that were crammed out the door on a formula system this thing is gold. Hell I even sent Frogboy an email about it early last year in the hopes that SD would con
@Craig - great news. Sorry if it is common knowledge as I have not had time to read all the posts in the forums yet. Cool! A new patch. Downloading shortly. @Ash - I would refine that list more and divide each category into priority targets and prevailing targets for each. @BDU - LOL - me too my friend, me too. @lord - My last game before the crash I owned 30% of the planets and had a fleet of 20 ships and my level was a mere 25%. My play style is super high
