I'm not sure what's going on with your recent Web Poll but it seems like it is possible to vote several times on it?? Typically the poll will allow voting options again after a bit of time browsing the forums. I doubt that anyone is actually able to vote multiple times though as I am sure you log IP's for each vote. I am using Firfox Mozilla (1.5.0.2) browser to browse the web site. It merely seems to be a visual bug with the poll I'm thinking.

I voted yes. In my opinion the game won't suffer at all with some multiplayer options. I would definately pay for a suite of MP features. People saying the game should never have multiplayer because their experience's with MP has sucked, I feel sorry for you. Screaming that it doesn't belong based on that soley alone seems very narrow minded to me, I think your opinion is unfortunately biased to that bad experience. If in your opinion

I am a bit surprised that you'd even entertain the thought of charging for an art booster pack. Really this is just something I would NOT pay for. Just some custom designed hulls? With a little effort I could do the same on my own for nothing but my time. Gee maybe I could make some neat looking ship designs in the ship creator and start uploading them to a web site. I could charge anyone that wanted to download them a nickel or even a

Almost forgot. Colony pop-ups: How can you handle this? Well I think it can stay the same, the GNN window just pops up to tell you what's been done at your colonies and you can go to that colony if you wish. Sometimes I have checked each colony in the list regardless of the build cue, and that can take a while. Lately though I just look for colonies doing nothing and work on starting a new que or change the ship building que to somethin

Well these are just some ideas I have. Nothing more nothing less. Why not simply do things in pseudo real-time? Bascially, time passes in ticks. A turn passes in say 2-15 minutes, which is agreed upon by the players when creating the game at the begining. Or as a default setting you could limit the time of ticks by the galaxy map size everyone chose to play on. A few minutes for smaller maps, up to 15 minutes for really large ones.<

Hmm easiest way to do this I can think of would be to sort the Civilization Manager screen by name? You know that screen where all the colonies are listed with their class/population/approval, etc. Click on name until it is sorted by name Z-A?

With the latest release patch (not beta), I had a problem with the black screen as well. Glen, take a close look at the Direct3D lines on the debug.err, you'll notice it is failing to initialize the renderer. That part is I'm sure, exactly the same as in my debug.err file when I encountered the problem. Look in the prefs.ini file for the game, located in your My Documents\Galciv2 directory, if it says the resolution is set to 1024x768 try ma

With the latest release patch (not beta), I had a problem with the black screen as well. I looked several times at the Prefs.ini file, gave up and was about to install updated drivers for my video card when I tried manually setting the resolution to be the same as my desktop (1280x1024), in the .ini file it was RESET to 1024x768 from the patch. Doing that fixed the black screen on loading problem. I also changed it manually again in the .ini

I had that same issue when selecting to build from the min-window. I'd select a new design colony ship, confirming the specs of it on the right side of the window, but it kept building an older design. It didn't build the new design from the mini-window, I was only able to build it from the build ship button on a planet.

Currently, the AI doesnt have to follow the 3 parsec rule. But in the next patch (or soon anyway) they are going to install a 3 starbase per sector restriction which the AI will also follow. I don't recall seeing this written anywhere? I'd have to agree with TheRealWarpstorm on this,

Recently I've seen in a game that an AI player has been able to build 2 starbases very near each other, within the restricted build radius. When I've tried to build starbses I have not been allowed to build them within 3 squares of any others (there must be 3 empty squares between them). I have seen the Arceans, have 2 starbases placed near each other. They were an influence starbse and only 3 (2 empty squares between them) squares away was an e

Well I really wouldn't know how to program it, it's just an idea that would be pretty cool I think. I don't think you'd spend to much time just exploring like this, as other things would be just as important to manage. It could add some interesting depth to the mid-game as was posted on this thread. Perhpas even after you've finished your "goal" of the current game you could engage in deep space exploration and see if you find some new r

I was just thinking that this would be an interesting way to have multiplayer too. You could have the players isolated by "unknown space". They'd have to explore the unknown space between them before they can establish trade routes and trade technologies, or even go to war. This might make simultaneous turns possible and allow players to take however much time they want with their turns. With each player being seperated by unknown space

In reply to Citizen jdkeepsmiling. Yes I think limiting it's benefits will help balance it, perhaps based on the map size you chose at the beginning of the game you would have a factor that is scaled in proportion with your game size. So maybe on a gigantic map you would have less chance of opening more parsecs. On a smaller map though the chance increases in proportion to the map size. In an unlimited mode though, I guess you'd still be limited by your computers hardware capab

Don't mean to be rude but I don't think you understood my post? Is it not clear in my original post? I'll try to explain better. I designed a freighter, this freighter had greater speed than the CORE design, let's call it Freight 2. Then I established a trade route with it. Not long after that I upgraded Freight 2 with faster engines and saved the new design with a different name, let's call it Freight 3 for clarity. Then I deleted the old Freight 2 design. Now, the Freight 2 desi

I was wondering that, too Crazyhawk. It's one thing I am trying to determine, that if by upgrading the engines of your freighter design you'll improve the overall trade income from your routes, because things are delivered faster? Perhaps that would LOWER the value of the trade route even? The odd behavior of deleted freighter designs returning to the shipyard list though seems like a bug.

So I know that on Gigantic settings that the map size is 18x18 parsecs. That's pretty huge, but what if you want a bigger map? Why not allow a larger size map by building in to the game a new game play element: Exploring the unknown regions of space beyond the maps edge. Once you've worked up the Ship Sensors tech line you could get a new tech, perhaps called Deep Space Exploration. This opens up new modules for ships or starbases that

Yet, the old ship design comes back to the shipyard because of the trade route, even after deleting the design. Also, it will show in the shipyard the number of those freighters from the trade route (1 for each trade route using that design). If you try to delete the design then it asks you if you want to decomission them?

15 Replies 9,622 Views

I've noticed that old ship designs seem to stay in the Mini-Build/Upgrade window, after being obsoleted and even deleted? I was often just doing a minor upgrade to a ship design but keeping the same ship name. There would sometimes be 3 versions of the same named ship design in the upgrade list, so you'd have to carefully look at the stats before upgrading to make sure you get the right design. This bug seems worst in the mini-build window.<
