This is no beter then Starforce That's completely ridiculous. I don't like SD's system, frankly, but comparing it to Starforce is just absurd. STEAM is the better comparison, and SDC isn't nearly as intrusive or broken as even that.

Tech trading was too easy to abuse before, IMO. I think in 1.5X it's actually too hard. I suspect the devs are seeking a good balance and just haven't found it yet.

It's not impossible, but it's harder. I'm not sure where I stand on this one. My leaning is that tech trading was too easy before and is too hard now, a good balance would probably be somewhere inbetween. I don't care that much, though, since I tech trade pretty lightly anyway. Using it too heavily, and especially making money off of it, has always struck me as too high on the cheese factor to be any fun.

Notice that the thread title starts with "for the AI's sake". The AI isn't typically going to get any benefit from delaying an invasion force by a couple of turns, nor does it keep bunches of freighters and constructors sitting in orbit as far as I've seen. And as for using freighters and constructors to delay an invasion, that's cheesy anyway. Unarmed ships shouldn't be able to delay an invasion for long periods of time.

You don't need the disc at all, actually, just your serial number(s). What kryo's saying is that you can install SDC and then download/archive the game in one fell swoop, no game installation required. Then you take that archive file and stick it on a disc and take it home. It's a pain, yes, but still nowhere close to being as intrusive as STEAM.

good point, but take a look to the other side: "it's saturday and your boyfriend is surely glued to the screen in the middle of whatever childish game he's playing on the computer" good: you call him, tell him if he rembers the romantic dinner he promised last week, wait for his sense of guilty to come out and then criticize him all over the night neutral: you call him, don't say a word, let his sense of guilty come out, go out f

if all the AI's ships are like tin cans compared to yours, Everyone that's made a statement like that apparently doesn't understand how to use non-combat ships to delay an invasion force. Fleeting my space miner, freighter, and 2 constructors is NOT helpful to the defense of the homeworld. This whole discussion is really about whether you think orbital

Aren't the creatures in both this case and the bug war thing supposed to be sentient? You think you have to be a green to think exterminating sentient creatures is a bad thing?

Losing 3 ships a turn (or in the AI's case 5-6 ships a turn) is not a good defensive strategy! It is if they're old, crappy, tiny fighters that are holding the line (poorly) until the real warships arrive. It's not like this would be an end of the world change, but it'd radically alter some of the military strategy of the game for me. I've never built an OFM, as far as I'm concerned fleeted ships in orbit are just an invitation to invasion and

Umm, no. The current system is advantageous , actually. Orbital fleet managers just mean that a good fleet can wipe out a planets defense in one or two attacks, then land the transports. I love it when AI's build them for this very reason, it makes killing them that much easier. THe AI needs to learn to launch it's good ships, fleet them, and attack incoming forces before they hit the planet like a human would. Making planets I'm not paying attention to more vulnerable to suprise in

What version of the game do you have? Dread Lords? Dark Avatar? What patch? Under DA 1.5X tech trading is much harder. Then again you are playing the Terrans, who are crazy good at diplomatic trading. It may just be that you're making good use of your super ability. Without knowing more its hard to say, but if you've got the latest version it's almost got to be #3. If not, you should pick it up. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 align="absm

Oh, interesting. Well like I said, I gave is about 20 turns and we're all functioning under the "accelerated research "event on a large galaxy so I couldn't fathom why it'd take them so long. I guess I'll wait a bit longer. The AI's in question are the Thalans, Korath, and Yor.

I just got this event in my current game. It's a good ways into the game (2233), it's been about 20 turns since the event hit, and everyone's populaiton is still dropping like a stone (except mine, of course, I researched the thing in three turns). Any chance of getting this annoying little glitch fixed? Edit: Nevermind, the AI was just slow about it, but they did ultimately research it.

4 Replies 4,720 Views

Oh, yes, yes it would. Sorry, I've never actually done this I've just read the explanation of how to. What you want to do is download and install the game, then archive it and burn that along with a copy of SDC onto a disc. Then you can install SDC on your system at home and use it to install the archived game. Since the version you downloaded will be the newest build of the game, that'll get the job done. Honestly I think the whole thing's excessively roundabout and they should

I leave diplo and research off, as they allow me to win at times when I'm not "really" winning, ie I'm not the dominant power. I tend to leave influence on, since if I control 75% of the map it's pretty much a forgone conclusion I'm going to win anyway.

16 Replies 13,021 Views

It's actually been stated that DA updates are going to only come through SDC, at least until the "final" ones. If you can install SDC on your work computer you could get it through the archive function.

16 Replies 11,230 Views

All in all, its probably a good thing as diplomacy has always been cheesy, and is how people beat suicidal difficulty, which shouldnt really be winnable if its working right. The only thing is, the AI seems to trade just as prolifically amongst istelf as it ever did, though its even harder for the player to pick up tech. This makes it more appealing than ever to disable tech trading in the game all together. The devs have repeatedly stated that

And also read any review and see either 'Cons:' or 'Bad:' Which is, of course, symptomatic of the gaming press' complete lack of perspective. If ever there was a game that proved what an incredible SP game you can make when you solely focus on the single player experience, this is it.

If Stardock patches the game to make Espionage optional, I will buy DA. Otherwise not. As Bingjack says, that'd be a rather serious error in judgment. The improvements vastly outweigh any perceived inconvenience in the new espionage system.
