Governors: A checkbox to either have or not have governors automatically doing their job on your planets. I do lots of micro management with planets and it's tedious to empty the update queue from each new planet you conquer. There already is one of those in the colony details screen.

I just keep getting some stupid scientist who accidentally makes the range on all ships unlimited. I get that one perhaps every third game. I occasionally get the speed limit and ultradrive events as well. I don't really think of those as all that "mega" but I suppose technically they are.

A megaevent is supposed to be mega, if it's commonplace, it's a common event. I've played 15 games of DA (6 under 1.5X), and I've never seen this event. Mega events, I'm fairly certain, have a set of triggers. They're supposed to pop up under certain circumstances. It may be that your play style is resulting in seeing this event a lot, the same way my play style seems to result in the gimpy Dread Lords turning up in virtually every one of my ga

It should be made impossible to win a Diplomatic victory when anyone is at war. It seems really weird that everyone except me can be blowing each other to bits, then I come by and say "hey, everyone, ally with me" and suddenly everyone drops their weapons and dances in the streets. I've always thought that, ideally, an alliance victory should require all surviving civs to be allied to one another, not just the player. If that were the case, actually, I

There's a toggle to turn surrenders off, if you dislike the AI's logic in this respect you should use it. Personally I very much like it the way it is. The only surrenders I take issue with are exactly the ones you seem to want, actually, those to the power crushing them. It makes no sense, really, to surrender to the power conquering you. It makes far more sense ot surrender ot the friendliest substantive power left in the game in the hopes they will "save you from your oppressor" as it were.<b

On the whole, I'm very pleased with the current state of the game after 1.5X. Stomp out those remaining bugs and buff the Dread Lords and I'd pretty much be happy. That's not to say there aren't some great suggestions in this thread, but I'd encourage caution in implementing any of the more radically game altering ideas. In short, at this point, it should be about small tweaks and adjustments, not big shifts in gameplay.

If your defenses are working at all to any effect, then you should be able to field in a mostly invincible ship That hasn't been my experience at all, even "balanced" ships (that's 50-50 defense-offense) seem to go down fairly easily to like-weapon ships under 1.5X for me. They hang in a little longer than a defenseless ship, don't get me wrong, but they're a long, long way from "invincible." Like Wyndstar I'm wondering what difficulty you're playi

-The Jagged Knife event happens WAY too often. I can almost count on it occurring every game. I wanna see the other mega-events! Funny, I've only seen in twice in 15 games. What I get almost every game is the gimpy Dread Lords event. I think the triggering may be responding to our respective playstyles. The ME's are supposed to react to the game state, not just be random. I've never seen the pirates or peacekeepers, for example.

You can't initiate it, which is fine because it shouldn't be possible at all. For some reason, though, they aren't set up properly and will sometimes declare war on you or make peace with you. When they go to make peace you can negotiate and trade with them, which has to be one of the biggest exploit holes in the game right now. They're supposed to be at war with all powers at all times (and be strong enough to be able ot make a reasonable showing that way) but right now they're broken.

I don't know what it improved It fixed a bug that prevented anyone from being able to submit scores to the metaverse. So it's either break the metaverse or seriously inconvenience gigantic map players. Fairly lose-lose, really. What they need to do (and what I'm sure they are doing) is get something out the door to fix the issues caused by this update.

Yup, they've been buffed a little post 1.5X but it's not enough to keep them alive. Plus they still have that bug where they open negotiations with you, which is ridiculous.

There are no boxed copies of DA. If you want a box and a printed manual the gold edition is your only option. It comes with a $10 rebate if you already own DL.

2) Make the AI value higher and/or work harder at getting treaties sent to them. Those are free bonuses for your empire, and I have never once seen an AI get more than two (one of each) sent to them. Personally, I try to get 5 or 6 sent my way by mid game... why turn down free bonuses? The AI should also be trying to get that many. The easier solution to that particular exploit is to make treaties bilateral. I really, really think that needs

2.) Again I agree. A larger planet is going to mean more gravity. So in my opinion all those HUGE planets should be high grav planets. You shouldn’t get something great like that for free. This is a strategy game after all. Now you know better than that, as a fellow physicist. Volume is immaterial, mass is what matters. Those larger planets could always be comprised of some lower density materials, after all. Granted having a planet that scale with a low

Yeah, I kind of thought it was probably hard coded but figured it didn't hurt to ask. On the other hand: You could remove alliances from teh game entirely. Just delete the Tech from teh tech tree. You just need to make sure that the techs that come after Alliances link to the tech that comes before alliances, effectively skipping alliances. That's an interesting idea, actually. Maybe simply removing the tech, and then increasing the cost of

I've made it a house rule that I never ally with more than one civ, it's just too easy to manipulate the diplomatic model any other way. I'm wondering if there's a way to mod that into the game as an actual hard and fast rule applying to all civs, though. Anyone know?

7 Replies 6,645 Views

I always disable tech and alliance victories, it's just much too easy to win by those means without really being the dominant power in the game. I leave influence on, since I figure once I have 75% of the map I've pretty much won anyway. More often than not I end up winning an influence victory, but the real question is whether I do it by panet flipping and influence amplification (really an economic victory to my thinking) or by militarily seizing 3/4 of the map, which is really just a military
