My god! Could the pirates be friends with the minors? I knew the minor races were too quiet. I bet the surge of pirates is nothing more than their plan to steal all galactic resources from the major races... I think you may be onto something. Now we know where those pirate bastards are getting their resources and tech from...
Vinraith
Heh, that's pretty cool. I haven't seen minor races with that much moxie in any of my games.
I suppose... I haven't had the luxery to fight against the updated Dread Lords quite yet... In the last game that I played, they were supposed to show up, but didn't show up on any planets on the map. That ruined my fun. That sucks. You know it's odd, I've never seen the pirate event or the peacekeepers or any of the other "big" megas. All I ever seem to get are the plague (which has largely been fixed and is cool now, thank you SD) and this Dr
*Sigh* Can't the devs get the Dread Lords right. I want a good fight... Well, it's funny, they're much more powerful in this game than I've ever seen them before. I suspect Brad's tweaks really have made them a more viable opponent in 1.5X, especially if they don't pop up right next to a human. I can't fathom why they're offering me peace, honestly. They've wiped out most of my military with 2 ships for pi
I don't think you can turn off the conquest victory, can you? Nope, there's no toggle for that one.
They can also apparently declare war on and negotiate peace with me.
Just wanted to let you know that under 1.5X I still have the AI declaring war on and signing peace treaties with the Dread Lords. I'm correct in thinking that it shouldn't be possible to negotiate with them, right?
but the Ai wouldn't trade tech for tech with the human at all Sure it would, it does constantly. I get regular 1 for 1 tech offers from the AI that look just like those. This just supports my "the AI offers to humans are identical to the AI offers to each other" hypothesis.
Uh, no. Stardock actually features a quite annoying copy protection system. No, it features an "annoying" registration system for updates. There's nothing you could call "copy protection" involved.
Actually that's an interesting point. I've seen quite a few tech offers from the AI, and they tend to be far more reasonable than what you can get by requesting tech in a trade deal. I'm wondering if the real issue here isn't that trades offered are more reasonable than the reaction to trades requested , both for us and the AI.
I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder my friend. Not really. Either the AI can't tell who the human is or it can. That'd be hardcoded into the AI itself, so it's simply a matter of whether the devs are lying about it or not. I honestly can't fathom why they would be, nor do I see any hard evidence that they are, so that's pretty much that from where I stand.
SD basically just rules. This is by far the best support I've seen from a game company. Keep it up guys!
They don't, it's all recorded in debug.err and it's quite clear that the AI's trading much more lightly under 1.5X. That's a good thing IMO, as is the fact that it's harder to get all your technology from trading. Research is worthwhile again. I love that every time the SD team improves the AI everyone jumps to the conclusion that it's cheating against the player. You people have been playing too many bad strategy games.
Oh, well, don't I feel foolish now. Thank you both for pointing this out to me. Hey, I didn't notice it until a week ago myself. These forums are a little... arcane at times, there's no harm in asking.
Could it be the map you're using? I've never used a custom so I don't know, but are minors pre-specified on custom maps?
If i thought for a moment that the AI would benefit from automatic orbital fleeitng I'd be all for it, I'm always in favor of making the game more challenging. Unfortunately this change will have little impact, other than to make conquest easier and faster, if my experience with AI's using OFM is any indication. As to there being "strong agreement," I'm not even going to get into that kind of argument, I think the content of the thread speaks for itself.
If mega-events were off and you weren't playing the "Dread Lords on Parade" scenario that shouldn't happen. Are you updated to 1.5X?
Yeah, I finally had the Korath and THalans turn it around. The Yor were already dead, since they took too long and I decided to seize their empire. Anyway, false alarm, disregard OP.
Err, you can. It's under "tools" in the upper right next to the reply button.
I really love the low PQ planet upgrade system. Has anyone noticed if the AI is still ignoring PQ 1 planets in 1.5X, though?
The funny thing is, they didn't. It was just a part of normal development. MP isn't an extra. Its like saying you car wasn't made with windows because it would detract from the engine budget. <img onload="setImageSize_onLo
I play the ARceans a lot and find it comes in handy when I'm outgunned in a particular location, and as a means to avoid losses when I'm not. If I've got a powerful fleet I can often remove half the enemy ships before they get a chance to fire. If I've got a weaker fleet I can often still manage to get a ship or two before getting butchered. In short, I quite like it.
I retract my earlier concerns. I managed to buy no less than 5 planets in the endgame of my last game (this is on a large map, mind you, whether there were only ~40 planets in play). I've never tried that before but, wow, that's crazy. And this wasn't with the Terrans, it was the Arceans...
I'm sorry, is there proof that the AI is giving to each other freely? Not only is there no proof, it's the fundamental opposite of how the devs say the game works. I really don't see why they'd be lying about something like that.
You know, the mere fact that there's as much disagreement as there is is a rather solid endorsement of leaving it free choice. The AI needs to understand when it's advantageous to build an OFM and when it's not (and no matter what the detractors say, sometimes it's definitely not). Forcing fleeting upon it in all circumstances doesn't solve anything.
