II - Linear Tech Tree Horrible tech writing/naming Sometimes people just baffle me.

Lots of trade routes, big military, good diplo (those techs are invaluable), and maintaining good relations throughout the game (that is, don't have a war with them) should really get you there easily.
Does AI attack your asteroid belts when in war? Why would it do that? They flip the instant you capture the planet near them, what's the sense in having to rebuild them?
Master of Orion 2 (MoO2) was the supposed king of the genre in its day (I actually preferred Ascendancy, myself) but that day was more than a decade ago. Personally, in light of GC2, I can't imagine going back to those games. Same here. I loved the way the ships moved, but the game was broken. Even with the antagonizer AI. I loved that game though. If
Master of Orion 2 (MoO2) was the supposed king of the genre in its day (I actually preferred Ascendancy, myself) but that day was more than a decade ago. Personally, in light of GC2, I can't imagine going back to those games. At present the only game of the same genre worth noting at all is SEV, which is really only useful for MP (and broken as well, from what I've heard).
10 hours for a huge galaxy sounds about right, both in DL and in DA. While ship speed and money are certainly harder to come by I've never really noticed a substantive difference in overall game length. You're still learning your way through the changes, which is probably what's slowing you down. Once you get the hang of it the pacing isn't really any slower.
It's a fun idea, but it'd be way too exploitable given the rest of the way the game works.
Those purple bursts are from Laser V's, the other lasers are the red beams.
The rule of thumb, and ideally they'd have a sticky about this at the top of the page, is that any patch without a posted change log is virtually always a bug fix and nothing else.
I´ve seen the AI colonize PQ 2 planets, which is something I wouldnt do. Now, I guess Ill go even for the PQ 1, just to see how they end. Sometimes I even think if its worthy to colonize Mars, that is such a shitty planet. Actually anything PQ4 or less (including Mars) got a big boost in improvement tiles in DA, so they're all worthwhile. The worst planets in the game now, really, are the PQ5 an
Really? My bad. Well, to be honest I hadn't played GC2 in ages prior to DA. I assumed they were there and everyone ignored them. It's an easy enough mistake to have made. Prior to the way terraforming now works for low PQ planets there wouldn't have been much point. Who'd waste a colony module on a class 1 that would only become a class 4 or 5, after all? I think the lowest used to be PQ3. Regardless, the point here is that it's not a new
Really? Do they grow to be that big? Class 1 planets are among the best in the game once you get the terraforming techs. Any neutral civ should be clamoring for them. The AI ignores PQ 1 planets. This was not a bug prior to Dark Avatar. There were no PQ1 planets prior to DA.
I wonder, though, if there are options to disable them from random race selection when you're choosing opponents. I'm sure you can delete the files for them too, but simply removing them from the pool of possible opponents would also be handy. You can just move the raceconfigxml files from your DA directory and set them aside if you want them out of the opponent pool for a given game.
Speaking of which--what's the deal with that "Surrender" option in the Diplomacy screen? That's kinda stupid. I use it, if I'm clearly getting my ass kicked, to end the game without watching the mop-up. It'd serve more purpose if you could watch the game progress after you've been knocked out, though.
As for an expansion, MULTIPLAYER If that was the major feature (and if it was in there it'd have to be, considering the expenses and resources necessary for it) it'd be a crushing disappointment to a lot of the fan base. I for one couldn't give less of a damn about MP, and wouldn't be terribly inclined to buy an expansion where that was the principle "upgrade." I'd also worry quite a lot about the shift in focus that'd represent. I don't want MP balancin
I don't mean to be a pest but this IS in the bug tracker, yeah?
I'd rather have an expansion at this point than GalCiv3 or the fantasy TBS. There's a lot of life left in this game and a lot of possibilities as yet unexplored. GC3 couldn't turn up until many years from now (and even then I'm not 100% confidant the design priorities will be the same) and while fantasy games are fine I prefer GC2's setting.
You know Belanos, rushing a bug fix patch is liable to introduce yet more bugs. Let them make sure they've got it right and that it isn't going to screw anything else up or you'll just end up in the same boat all over again.
I think there should be a bug fix patch, and then a seperate tweak and feature patch. Yes, that's the way it usually works with this game. Feature updates come along now and again, with bug patches between as needed. I'm sure a fog of war fix will be up very shortly.
I'm not absolutely certain if the AI has elections, but I would expect it does (it would be unfair if it didn't). Yes they do, and even lose occasionally - you get a popup saying that has lost control of the senate, things are looking bad for the empire - or something like that. <b
That's a mega event. If you're a new player you should probably turn those off.
From previous discussion on this board it's my understanding that the AI will spend those points. Not only that, but even if you've played the race and assigned the points the AI will apparently reassign them to its liking.
My only issue with it is that the peacekeepers go wild and destroy everything. They should do what it sounds like they were meant to do... destroy *combat* vessels in foriegn territory. Don't attack my trade ships or constructors that are in my own space. They should definitely not attack ships in orbit of my planets. I thought they weren't attacking everything and anything anymore under 1.5X?
Ah, I don't think he's talking about 1.6 when he says patch there, though. I think that, for example, the metaverse fix that started this problem was itself a "patch" in their lingo, rather than an "update" like 1.5X or 1.6. So I'd expect a fix this week for it, actually. Again, I'd be very surprised if SD didn't quickly address the issue, they've been good about this kind of thing in the past.
It's totally unproductive to attack them and the AI knows it. Seize the nearby planet and the bases will flip and start supplying you. Why bother destroying them and then having to rebuild them?
