It should also be noted that once I did declare on them they were suprisingly easy to deal with despite having had 20 turns to build up. They'd only constructed about five ships. Granted, it took a fleet of my best capital ships to deal with each one, but still. This is all playing on "tough" incidentally.

In my current game I got the Dread Lords mega event again. Unlike all previous times, they spawned in a far off corner of the map. I didn't even find them until about twenty turns later, so they'd had time to build up a small fleet. In the hopes of nipping the problem in the bud I've moved the bulk of my defensive forces towards their far off homeworld. When I went to destroy the troop transport that was encroaching towards one of my allies, however, I was greeted with a warning that if I did th
Brad's made mention of a 1.5X in-house version, though there's no release date set for it. I'm sure this bug's fixed in that, though, since it's one of the few big issues with the release version.
Neither is good gfx or good sound but games are penalized if they dont have those so why not multiplayer? Multiplayer has become an integrated part of gaming even if some people are still denying it and games without it should suffer the same penalties as game with poor gfx and sound. Everyone that plays a game is affected by its graphics and sound, not everyone is affected by its multiplayer component because many, many people don't MP.
Well at the expense of getting really hammered i'd like to say, Bit late don't you think!! This is exactly what i wanted when buying DA, i was happy downloading and waiting for the disc in the mail, but then i learned there would be no box for DA just the disc in a jewel case. Being anal i like having the box on my shelf, and the DA "posters" you were displaying on the site looked really cool. So after double checking that there
Why does realism have to factor into this anyway? It's not like every other element of the game is realistic. I think suggestions like this should be evaluated on how they affect gameplay, period. It doesn't have to, but since these are real phenomena their actual effects are a good starting point for discussion, it seems to me. If you just want to discuss game effects my opinion comes down the s
Hi! There's absolutely no reason a planet should occupy a parsec (that's 3 light years, give or take) of space square for example. I understand why it's the way it is and it doesn't really bother me, but you can't really make any astronomical arguments about a game where Earth is 4 light years from the sun. Look at that this way: hyperwarp engines work efficiently only in deep space. Close to gravity wells t
Usually I'll have a name for the ship class dependent on the race (so for example my Thalan Battleships are "mantis" class) and then a coded designation for armament, defense, and engine type. So you end up with something like: Ph6B2W3 Mantis That'd be a Thalan Battleship armed with Phasor VI weapons, Barrier II defenses, and Warp III engines.
I actually like espionage as is, my only request would be a means to apply an agent without him sabotaging production when desired.
Hehe, yeah I don't think the star formation element's particularly relevant seeing as the game is played out on a scale of, at most, decades. The sensor blocking is a good thought, and makes a degree of sense considering the amount of ionizing radiation that tends to be present in emission nebulae. The research bonus makes sense too. I'm not exactly sure why it'd slow down movement, though as you say we're not really talking realism here. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smil
I guess some people are saying that the developers originally tried to balance the Mega Events, but then a majority of some group of people "voted" for deliberately unbalanced events. You're misunderstanding. Mega events were originally conceived by the devs as massive, unbalancing things. They asked if people liked the idea, and got a largely positive response. Some folks were concerned that these massive unbalancing events might screw up the game for l
So long as the limit is greater than 3, I'm fine. It's 5, which is substantial but not totally crippling.
Personally I'd like to see the Pirates event be as suggested, and then an event like the current pirate event be, say, an extragalactic invasion of some sort. Maybe even just make the pirates event the Dread Lord event and give them a planet.
I actually kind of like that one, it totally changes my usual strategies in the game and forces me to think much longer term.
Exactly. Forget MoO. Thirded. GalCiv2's a better game in every way than any iteration of MoO ever was, sorry people. It'd be a tragic misallocation of resources for SD to pursue a MoO revival when simply advancing GalCiv would invariably produce a better game. Now Star Control, there's nothing on the market like that anymore. I'd love to see an SD game along those lines, even if it wasn't connected to/licensed as Star Control.
Where did you get this idea that what the people on this board "asked for" somehow is more important than game balance, fun, and an experience that *scales according to difficulty level*? If you want "game balance, fun, and an experience that scales according to difficulty level" turn off the mega events, they're not for you.
Danielost, seriously, TURN THEM OFF. You don't like them. That's fine, you don't have to play with them. There, everyone's happy. Why are we still having this conversation? That goes for everyone complaining about these things. No one has put a gun to your head and said you have to have mega events on. Those that dislike them should stop complaining and just turn them off .
When you're outside the Schwartzchild radius of a black hole it's no different than any other star, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to block more space than a star already does. Honestly, as it is we've got more obstacles than make sense. There's absolutely no reason a planet should occupy a parsec (that's 3 light years, give or take) of space square for example. I understand why it's the way it is and it doesn't really bother me, but you can't really make any astronomical arguments abou
It'd also make sense if the animosity scaled by how deep in foreign territory the flipped planet is. It would suck if you wound up at war just because the AI had decided to colonize Mars, then got all upset when it inevitably flipped. Also a valid point. It's easy to see why getting these things right is so hard for the devs, even the simplest of ideas ends up being very complicated once all the mitigating facto
Yeah, I use Irfanview. You just start up the capture function in the background and every time you hit ctrl+f11 (or whatever key combination you assign) it'll take a shot and store it in a predefined place. It works quite well for me.
Thanks for the greatest strategy game I've played since Civ II. This kind of thing really can't be said enough, although I think I'd put SMAC in there in place of Civ 2. Regardless, this is the best 4x game of any stripe to come down the line in a long, long time.
You raise an interesting point falcon. In a lot of ways it'd make sense for the animosity to be scaled by how long the race has held the planet. That might be asking too much, though.
I just like to chuckle cause Frogboy shot down the idea of a stable wormhole by describing exactly what mega-events do. Actually no, he said it'd be unbalancing because the AI couldn't handle it , which is a different sort of unbalancing entirely than most mega events (the plague cure AI issue aside, since I expect that'll be fixed in the next update).
yea galvic mixes all the things I wanted from ascendy to have I'm guessing anyhting else coming form that group will just be vaporware They were discussing an Ascendancy 2 ages ago. They were going to make it some sort of large scale multiplayer-only game, which I wouldn't be remotely interested in even if they ever did make the thing, which I doubt they'll do.
those kind of things are game enders not challenges I think they're challenging, not game enders. Blessedly, we can both be happy. You turn them off, I'll leave them on. Easy.
