I'll be six months before any of us really need to get Vista. Even then, only some of us will need it. I waited 3 years to get XP, which worked out about right. I'm hoping to hold out at least that long with Vista. Ideally I'd just skip it completely, we'll see.

From the sound of DA, I may not get it at all. Super abilities that mess up the whole game, AI blunders, nerfed defenses and engines... Quite a long list in the 'don't buy this now' category, and only a short list in the 'really cool stuff' category. If I had spent the money to preorder, I would have been sorely dissapointed. You're making the fundamental mistake of judging the expansion by an internet message board. Here's a hint,
Since the module is supposed to be converting the ship it's attached to into construction materials (hence why the ship disappears) that wouldn't make any sense.
There's no question that one's forthcoming, although they've (perhaps wisely) not put a date to it yet. For what it's worth, tech supports response to a bug I reported was "just fixed this, it'll be in the next update." I'm itching for it too, but I also want them to fix/add as much as possible with it so I'm content to be somewhat patient.
I think this phenomenon, which I've seen too, is related to the well known PQ bug.
Seems to work ok for me...
I usually use Irfanview's screen capture system, which works famously. http://www.irfanview.com/
OK, yeah, it's strictly graphical after all. I tried a few battles that weren't even, and came through without a scratch on any of my ships despite still seeing them fire on each other. I guess those Krynn battleships are just nastier than I thought. Someone close this, please.
Yeah, I just saw the thread about the graphics bug. Hmm, I wonder if I'm just getting pounded harder than I think I am by the enemy, I confess it's a little hard to tell.
Is it possible to turn it up mid-game? Sadly not, it's got to be done in the initial game setup. Your best midgame method for ticking off the AI is Bingjack's suggestion. You could build influence starbases near their worlds but you'd have to be careful not to actually flip them. The process of flipping a world annoys the AI, but once the world's flipped the AI not only doesn't hold it against you, it is weakened and thus tends to lik
I'm playing the Arceans in DA, and have medium and large vessels equipped with a mixture of beam and driver weapons. The beam weapons appear to properly fire at the enemy, but the driver weapons appear to fire at my other ships. Worse yet, it appears to be more than a graphical bug. Since I have "super warrior" I can plainly see that my ships are taking damage before the enemy has even had a chance to fire. What the hecks going on here? It's making my current game functionally unplayab
Espionage is untraceable. If you want a harder diplomatic game (and a less passive AI in general) try turning up the "aggression" in the personality tabs of the enemy AI's (assuming you have DA). It makes the game much more interesting.
Yup, it's so easy I just don't do it anymore, but I know what you mean. It helps if you turn the AI up to tough, and it helps if (in DA) you turn up the "aggression" of the other civs, but they still don't really react appropriately to having their worlds flipped. For what it's worth I started a thread on this awhile back in which Frogboy posted and he seemed to be trying to solve the problem, so we can hope that in future updates it won't be as much of an issue.
For what it's worth I agree there ought to be an across-the-board aggression setting available.
I've never seen an unescorted transport in DA on "intelligent," period. I do play with "force max CPU usage," which may be why I suppose. If you find the AI too passive (which I do, on default settings) turn up "aggression" and it will cease to be.
On the opposite end of things, I'd like the option to turn the silly things off. I don't have the time or the inclination at the beginning of the game to spend resources collecting random 1% bonuses, nor do I particularly want to have to worry about them later. They really add nothing to the game for me, and even on rare you seem to get a ton of them.
I'm not saying that the game should be made easier, but that this event is not what I think of when I think if pirates in space. I think the pirates should strike fast and take out as many econ bases and freighters as possible, not dominate the galaxy. The Dread Lords event on the other hand (at least in my experience) needs to be a lot stronger. And I don't really have a problem with that, which is why I wasn't quoting your post. I like your idea,
It is much to powerful. The devs need to deal with that. Absolutely, unequivocably not. I like them as they are, they provide a challenge at times that are otherwise sorely lacking one. In general I'd oppose any change that would make the game easier.
I usually turn alliance victories off for exactly the reason you mention, it never eally feels like a win. It's much too easy to ride another races coat tails to "victory" without ever doing anything. I turn off research victories too, since the AI doesn't seem to reliably have the sense to come after you when you try that one, so again it feels like a nothing victory. Since the AI seems to get more and more fond of you for every planet you flip I may have to nix cultural vic
3's got none of the historical flavor of 2, it's basically an ugly Civ clone.
I can only agree with the first post, it's the single best expansion pack I've ever seen for a game. I like virtually every gameplay addition, and the improved AI is excellent as well. can you please mention some of the things that stand out most as being better than DL? The improved AI, for one thing. I really like the hostile planetary environments, as it totally chang
The alternative, for the moment, is to disregard the new OS. It'd be, frankly, totally insane to get Vista at this point. It's overpriced, it doesn't work, and it has no benefits over XP. I agree with your overall frustration, though, that games are basically only released for Windows. Personally I have a dual boot machine. I use Windows for games and Linux for virtually everything else. Having to have Windows around solely for that purpose is, to put it mildly, quite annoying. I under
Horatio's got it, actually. The solution to this particular exploit is simply to force them to be bilateral. It hadn't occurred to me to offer treaties without requesting one in return, but I now see exactly what the concern is on the part of the other posters in this thread. The trade value of an unreciprocated treaty is absurd in the early game. I just offered a research treaty to the Krynn (I'm 10th in the game in tech) and the text was skill green after I'd selected all 20 techs they

I agree with 2 and 3, on the others I either disagree with what you want the AI to do or diagree that the AI's not already doing that. For example, the AI does specialize planets, at least in DA. I've captured several worlds that were clearly specced as research or manufacturing worlds.
