I totally agree with that. Sometimes I feel the ai declares war on me and then decides to work out its strategy afterwards. By the time it declares war on you it should have already caught you with your pants down if you hadn't been paying attention beforehand.

I like minor races though, coming across an evil race of squirrels every now and then is just too hilarious to turn them off. Maybe they should have the same abilities/ai as major races but have an economic penalty putting them at about 50% production capacity of the other races or something like that.

One funny thing I've seen minor races do is try to expand by building influence starbases. Unfortunately since they don't generate any IP as a minor race, their effort is wasted. In my current game though the Scottlingas race are doing pretty well, they have at least made their presence felt.

One good diplomatic option that was available in an old 4x game named Fragile Allegiance was Non-Aggression Pacts. When negotiating one of those you could set the amount of time that they would last before expiring, hence if you could forsee wanting to go to war in the future you could attack after it expired without incuring a penalty. You could also negotiate the penalty incurred if either party broke it, typically monetary compensation that had to b

Some great information in this journal entry and it really makes you appreciate how much the AI has to "think" about when playing the game. I'd like to give my thumbs up here for the AI as I think it plays fantastically well. It's true that in most strategy games the only reason the AI is a challenge is because it is heavily advantaged, and I reckon it is a wonderful achievement that unless you play on a very high difficulty level, the AI is on an equa

Enigmatical, I've been able to work out the problem. You were correct in your suspicion of there being a missing portion of the Serial #, in fact it is just one character missing. So to get a valid serial response simply try every letter and number in front of the code one at a time and eventually you will find the correct serial number. Try starting with numbers as the first character of my code was a number rather than a letter. The patch makes thing

By the way it doesn't appear that the collector's edition is on sale in Australia, so that's not the issue either. I would like to hear from any Australians who have purchased the game and if their serial is actually working. If so I'd be inclined to return my purchase as faulty and get another one.

The game here is distributed by some company named Auran. I went to their website and it doesn't even mention Galactic Civ, they seem to be the makers of the Trainz Railroad simulator games. I don't know if we'd be better off contacting them, I have been apprehensive to since they don't even mention that they are affiliated with this game.

This is a real kick in the teeth. It has been frustrating enough to have to wait for so long for the game to become available here, Australia is always pretty much last to get anything in stock, and then after rushing out and buying the game I now have to wait to activate the product, who knows how long it will take to get assistance from tech support. I received an automated email which had a procedure for manually registering a product which would be

I just purchased Gal Civ II today from an indenpendant retailer. I'm in Australia and the game has just been released here. When I attempted to download the patch it asked for my serial number and told me that it is invalid. I have already emailed support and am waiting for it to be rectified. Very frustrating to purchase a game and to be told it's an invalid serial which I have retyped several times. I dont really want to start any games until it is p
