I have never downloaded a game. I have purchased pirated copies of various games in Thailand and Indonesia in the past, and the ones I have liked, I have gone on to purchase legitimate copies. Playing a pirated copy just isn't the same IMHO. It's not just the guilt factor, but actually owning the box and manual just feels so much more satisfying. Even with legitimate downloaded games it feels as if you have the real thing, whereas a pirated version could have missing movies or files, etc, and
Haoh
So four minutes after your first post it's all resolved?? Maybe you should think first before shooting your mouth off. Enjoy the game.
I don't like this idea either. You have to remember, when you queue a "building" for construction, you are developing infrastructure on a planetary scale, not developing buildings in a city ala Sim City. So, when you build a "factory" square, I already see this as developing one of your major cities on the planet into a major industrial hub, not just building one factory.
As an Australian, I actually object to your comments Camerooni. Australian gamers have every right to be up in arms about this and demand that our government take action. The problem is that too many Australians are laid back and prepared to let things slide, as your post suggests, and hence nothing gets done. The only people that can be bothered are the elderly and women's rights activists. Perhaps we can learn something from the Americans in doing something about it when our fredoms are in jeo
Influence buildings increase your overall galactic influence which in turn draws in more tourists. And the game already has the galactic achievement "Restaurant at the end of the Universe" which gives a 20% influence bonus and hence draws in tourists from around the galaxy. Are you criticising this game for not including Disneyland? Perhaps you should play Rollercoaster Tycoon.
I don't put graphics as being the most important part of the game, but I still expect them to be functional and attractive otherwise I am completely put off. I tried Dwarf Fortress, for example, knowing full well that the graphics are awful, but it seems to have such a dedicated following I was interested anyway. I could only handle staring at it for 5 minutes, the graphics were so butt-ugly that I could not figure out what information was trying to be conveyed. However, I do enjoy Armageddon Em
If you're wanting have Lord Kona removed then might as well remove the Drengi scenario too. In fact, given that this game is "Political Machine 2008" then it's unrealistic to have anything in the game other than the standard 2008 scenario and candidates Obama and McCain. Yeah, I'm sure everyone would prefer that, please patch immediately!
It would be nice if the battle videos actually showed the results of your pre-invasion tactics, like a flooded city for the tidal wave attack, leaflets being dropped from the sky for information warefare etc. Then the screen would at least have some variety. Probably not cost-effective to do though.
Screenshots look beautiful. will definitely give it a go when I have a computer that can handle it.
Cool thanks for the info.
Hi there, So far I'm enjoying the game, but as a non-American I have no idea (apart from the obvious states) which states have a lean towards religious groups, and which have a lot of ethnic minorities, so I can't tell where my minority appeal is useful. Is this information displayed within the game somewhere that I am not seeing? I haven't tried the other scenarios yet but I imagine this would be even more important to know for the fantasy setting ones.
Wow if this is the "worst" game you have ever purchased then you're either extremely stingy or incredibly lucky with games you've purchased to date. Probably the worst game I ever purchased was Lords of Midnight 3. Didn't know anything about the game, just looked interesting from the box. I played the game for a grand total of about 2 minutes.
Hey Fluxx, have you noticed that your rant has gained you zero karma points? That should tell you something.
I just finished replaying Deus Ex after a few years. It's freakin' brilliant. I think, ultimately, I prefer it over System Shock 2 - although the latter is awesome, too.
Yeah I really would like to give it more of a go eventually. Funny thing is that nearly a decade later there haven't really been any other games that have had that level of depth with character and story development. I haven't myself played Bioshock yet as I don't have an acceptable computer to run that,
Good to hear. Always knew it was a feature and not a bug, it just needs some tweaking. Perhaps the research "inflation" weighting should depend on whether tech trading is on or not?
The "limited tech trading" option sounds good in theory, but the problem with it is it will likely significantly disadvantage the more unique races out there. The Thalans for example have such a highly exclusive tech tree that it will largely leave them out in the cold. How do you balance this option?
FPS = first person shooter. System Shock 2 shares a lot of similarities with Deus Ex in that they incorporate a lot of RPG elements. I personally tried to get into Deus Ex but found the combat really unsatisfying and never got that far in the game.
Anything with some form of violence in it. Therefore I never got into the Sims.
My favourite game of all time: System Shock 2. Great story, great voice acting, at times terrifying atmosphere, and one of the few genuinely replayable FPS games out there.
Just a follow up, are you trying to say that if a person buys Space Empires V and finds that it has a lot of bugs, they will go off and buy a Wii instead? Wouldn't he/she more likely look for other PC games in that genre instead after realising that consoles don't offer games anything like that? The fact is, PCs can cater to gamers in ways that consoles will NEVER be either able, or willing, to achieve.
Very odd that you use Space Empires V and EA in the same example as their games are buggy for totally different reasons. SE V is because the whole game is designed by practically one person, and EA is because they don't give a damn about their customers. I doubt that your casual PC gamer would even know what SE V is, they would be unlikely to stumble across such an obscure game by accident, find it buggy and draw a conclusion that all games are buggy. I don't think PC gaming is dying, m
What I would love to see in Gal Civ 3 above anything else is turn based tactical combat, along with much more in-depth design options as far as weapons and defenses go. That would take the ship design aspect to a whole new level which already proved a big selling point for Gal Civ 2.
Yep, about 12 Euros, thanks to digital download.elias: IIRC only the map and issues etc. changes, the voting system will stay the US one. Bit of a letdown, but again, only 12 Euros...
As far as I'm aware there currently is no position titled "President of Europa", so saying that the game doesn't feature a European voting system is rather a moot point. I would imagine many American High School students would figure that the rest of the world functions exactly the same way
Good to see there are some level-headed responses as well as the rants. BTW I also agree that it needs adjusting, I just don't agree that the game is broken as it stands now. For those who are really unhappy, I would strongly suggest choosing fast or very fast tech rate in the options, it makes a big difference. Will be interesting to see what Brad does with this when he gets the time. I can think of 3 reasons why he made this change in the first place: - Many people complained in t
PS my numbering was off for questions 8 and 9 as I kept thinking of more ideas as I wrote. I hope you still get the idea.
