Looks like I will wait for the general release of 1.1 then. Pity as the changelogs you have been putting up make want to install the Beta now. Thanks for all the hard work putting these together!

Do I have to HAVE to use that Stardock Central download to get the updates now?
I can only assume you are trolling after that last post since your original post generated quite a lot of serious suggestions on how to approach the "darklords" campaign differently and also some discussion on peoples take on it. Out of 18 replies you got maybe 2 bad responses and even one of those had some ideas at the end! Considering you finished your original post with "this game sucks and I know best" I reckon you had a good run there. Personally I didnt like the lack
I cant see a poll on the left so I'll just add www.eurogamer.net review followed by checking out a Gamespy review before ordering.
So does the original builder get the benefit for building it or just selling the goods? i.e. I build Xanthium-ium-ium Hull plating so I can trade the goods and the AI gets the 25%hp (or wotever) benefit. Do I also get the 25% benefit as the "developer" of the goods? Because to me the 25% (or wotever) is worth far more than the poxy 640bc the AI is willing to give me for it. Also the AI NOT having the 25% is worth far more than 6
Maybe should have put "weapons" not "guns" there. I normally use beam weapons. LaserII and the first miniaturisation will let you put 2 weapons and a good Drive on a small hull right at the start. To be honest I dont know which weapon I'll choose until I click the button! I will check the diplomacy screen to see what Weapons and Def the AI has (usually all have the same one even on Challenging - diplomacy screen is free espionage). But that
I tend to skip ads in mags. I heard about the game while browsing the latest reviews on the Eurogamer website at lunchbreak. Checked out the review, went to Gamespy to see how their review compared, then ordered The Game online convinced. While waiting for it to arrive I lurked around these forums which turned out to be a big mistake because after hearing about (and then seeing) the possibilities for the ship designer I couldnt f'n wait for the bl
Wow, TNTTony you got quite a few good questions in there! I'll start with what I know for the quicker to answer ones. -No, an 0 Att, all Def wouldn't work because at some point you would roll a low Def against their attack. -Yes it is possible to beat an enemy if they out-tech you. It really needs to be a combination of Mil Starbases and ships with attack and mobility to be effective though. Focus on attack points they dont have
@Cephelo: #5. In the Planet View screen there is a Details button bottom left. Go there and you will see the option you are looking for as Rename. It also gives you a quote from a citizen for what that planet is like. @SnuffyZena: Sorry its not an easy way to delete ship designs (you may already know this) but there are two files for every ship you design in the "My Documents/my games/gal civ2" (or wotever) folder and are named by
@AgentOrange You can already change the name of your starbases. Just select the starbase then click the bar with its name. My econ names are always changed (for the reasons you stated). Its much easier to remember the location and purpose of "Earth Central Exchange" and "Deep Space ATM" over "Economy Starbase 1156" and "Economy Starbase 962"
Can we have the game files moved from "my documents" please? I chose an install directory different to the default for a reason, please use it for these files also. Or if someone can tell me how to modify this myself that would be great. Too many games now store data in "my documents" but dont mention anything about in the install options.
This one may be too obvious to everone but here goes... You can press spacebar to end any remaining moves on your selected ship (or fleet) and skip to the next available ship. Amongst other things this is handy if you have ships you dont want to move that turn and you dont want to put on guard but you also dont want to miss out on moving any other available ships before hitting end turn. Warning! You dont get the moves
Dito Maddog. Got the Beta download tonight, installed okay. Now when I put in email and serial number it says "error activating product". Oh to pay more attention to the Beta warning at the start of the patch...
About the "Never" production. If you are not red-lining the economy and you have your 3 sliders set to allow the production you are interested in (i.e you said Social & Military so I'll assume at least 30% to each of those) but there is still a "never" for a ship or building then check the specialised buttons on the planetary screen. There is a little button in the top right of each of the 3 boxes Military, Social and Research that you can u
Hmm, I dont see this dominating effect using an offence only. I built ships last night with 6/0 laser and they can still roll 1's and 0's for dealing damage against un-shielded AI ships (Yor). Sometimes 3's sometimes 5's but mostly 0 - 2. I repeat, this is against unshielded AI ships. Depending on logistics I can maybe get 4 or 5 of these ships together in a fleet and go against an AI fleet of 5 or 6ships. If I am lucky I can sometimes tak
My fav is Creativity! "Put the right side of your brain to use" There is nothing quite like getting 2 techs for 1 especially at the start of the game!
I know your pain with this! So yeah, grab the early red ones. At somepoint I switch to 100% research to get the basic techs for ship attack at 1 turn a piece. Then 100% military to pump out a fleet ot cheap & nasty warships. I dont epect anything of them, they are there purely for military rating at the start so that the AI will seek out "softer" oppertunities. I used to wait until I had some better weapons that take up less spac
This ones a typo I guess. There are two "ultimate" weapons in one weapon catagory of the tech tree. i.e. The last item to research says "the ultimate weapon in rail gun tech" and the research previous to it says "the ultimate weapon available for this type". But there can only be one "ultimate" weapon otherwise it isnt the ultimate is it?!
I can help you with 2 and 3. 2. The limit is presented as grey line when you select the ship you want to move. You will see it on the mini map fairly obviously and if you scroll the main view around you will see the boudary line on screen. As a side note, starbases and planets expand the range your ships can operate in. I have never put life support on a ship I designed. I research it for the range bonus (nice touch!) but not the equipm
Does that actually work Jester? Influence starbases are a pain in the arse to deal with since you cant do anything about them yourself short of going to war. So does the other AI accept the ship and take out the starbase for you or is it a bit hit and miss? (excuse the pun) I have given struggling AI some of my ships before to aid them in wars I dont want to see them lose but I never see them used in any way.
If you choose the ship style at the start of a new game to be the race style you have created your hull designs in and not the regular race designs, will that give any race your new ship designs? I.e. Create your designs as (for example) human style, then start a game as Torian but choose the human style. Would your saved templates appear?
When I put influence starbases near AI oponents and they find out about them they usually get on the comm and say "we know what you are up to" or "get rid of it or there will be trouble". Basically a warning. How do I do the same when I find one of their influence starbases in my territory? If I go to comm I can only demand they give it to me for free which they see as idle threats and gets me nowhere. If I attack it we are at war. I just w
I keep losing scanner range. I usually build some dedicated scanner ships (cargo hull, one small engine then loads of mk4 Scanner modules) and park them aroud the map on guard. At this point i have no "fog" and can see all about. Then as I build and launch new ships (for example: a constructor) the view of the area defaults to that of the ships and planets which dont have scanners and the galaxy is in fog again. If I click on one of th
