I haven't had a chance to play much with 1.1 beta, but I just think it's so cool of stardock to release this optional patch in the first place! Not only does it fix some bugs, but it also adds a lot of new features! So soon after the initial release of a game, I've never heard of anything like that.

Hahah. Getting the world is its own reward. A whole new world is better than money or a single piece of new tech. I dunno, when I'm at war, yeah, my coffers slowly deplete, but, I usually have near 15000+ BC in my coffers when combat starts (around turn 52 IIRC), which I use as a buffer... It's expensive to manufacture and research, so I trade tech for BC from the AIs to fund my poor economy. Once

I misunderstood then, sorry. That's odd. I know sometimes the sliders won't move for me, as if they're locked, but the lock icon isn't "on". To move them, I have to "lock" them. But... there's no lock icon for tax rate. It does this in all your games? If so, I'd remove the game, reinstall, then reboot. I know, it's not a "the penny just dropped" idea, but, it's the next thing I would do.

I agree that going beyond a single farm (on atleast PQ 8+ worlds as I wouldn't bother raising pop on less than that) is rather inneficient, unless your playstyle relies on obscene population numbers -- I can't think of any, though. Even before the patch, this is what I did: 1 farm on PQ8+ worlds, and 1 entertainment center. IF I had a farm on any world, then I definately loaded up on stock exchanges. Now, since 1.1, it makes more sense to do this than before. Once you l

A buddy of mine has this game on his comp, and he's using an Nvidia 4600ti (which I gave him a while back). His textures look nowhere near as nice as the one's on my comp (I use a ATI 9800XT). I'll have to look at his settings, but he probably has his 3D settings set to "optimal performance" while I run mine at "optimum quality". Something you can check...

I don't build farms either I like to keep my population low, since it doesn't affect research or manufacturing... more tiles for the important stuff. I I build farms near the end of the game to raise my population in order to get a higher score for my economy.

I'd like to see a play example for playing the game as a "war profiteer" -- where your economy is majorly supported by making the AIs war with each other and by supplying arms to one or more sides. I don't see this playstyle as being efficient, although I might be doing something wrong (but I doubt it). I recall Frogboy toting how he was able to accomplish this, and I'd like to see how he does it (and in turn, I'm hoping he changes some code to make this strategy viable on higher difficulties)

Great job. Some thoughts: 1) More points on metaverse for "blind exploration" I'm not a big metaverse player, but I know others are, so this option greatly increases difficulty of play (as ctrl-n becomes nearly pointless). I'm all for it, but throw in some more points. 2) I agree with Kalin that starting positions need to be more balanced, and that homeworlds shouldn't have bonus tiles (this way, spamming ctrl-n becomes totally

Tip: If you ever play a game that has a memory leak, run it Windowed. Then alt-tab out occasionally, as this forces windows to reallocate memory. Sounds crazy, I know, but it worked for every game that I can remember that had a memory leak (Anarchy Online, Eve Online, Vampire Masquerade, to name a few). That being said, I hadn't noticed any memory leaks (but I admit I wasn't looking for them)... but I do see more memory being used as the game continues, especially on larger maps, bu

IMO, hands down, diplomacy is the "best" racial pick (+50%). What you do with your leftover popints depends on your playstyle (influence bonuses for a cultural domination win, for example), but I'm sure no one will argue that research, military production, and morale bonuses are among the sweetest of the sweet.

None of the invasion options do anything before you put troops on the ground. Planetary bombardment increases the advantage factor (those random numbers flipping on your screen when you invade). He's asking for a way to glass planets from orbit ala MOO. Maybe we'll eventually see something like that.

Hell I never trade tech, never take +diplo bonuses, never use the good armor or evil weapons, never take ship combat bonuses, never take more than one military resources, never use influence starbases, never exploit the 2k bug and never build any galactic wonders and I'm jacking the AI up on maso. <b

I play on Suicidal, and I'd be thrilled if I had to go back down to Intelligent after the patch EDIT: Be a tech whore by taking the 50% diplomacy custom racial ability and populist polital party -- and eventually getting Total Majesty tech (not hard). Also known as "Jedi" level diplomacy. I go 50% diplomacy, and 50% research. I would almost prefer 50% diplomacy and 50% militar

You can try bribing the most militarilly powerful race to go to war with ALL the other races, and continue to minipulate it so that they keep themselves weak. I've noticed that they don't like to be at war with more than 3 people at once. Doesn't cost much with +50% diplomacy racial pick. Definately cheaper than going to war yourself.
