I'm playing my first game after downloading the latest patch, and I am playing as the Korx. I am up to medium scale building, harpoon missiles, ECM II, enhanced miniaturization, advanced factories, extended life support, research centers, blah blah blah..and I still have NO defense ships available in my build queue. All the races have gone from warm to cool in anticipation of pouncing on my undefended backside. There are no defenders, no corvettes, no nothing available to be built. I also have d

It could be an announcement of a publishing agreement between Stardock and Ironclad, but since we're in Imaginationland, I'll say that Stardock and Ironclad have merged and formed a new company called "Starclad". They have purchased majority stockholdings in EA, Sierra and Microsoft, and will enforce a dress code where everyone dresses like wizards and the material has little stars all over it.

Sethpenguin..don't sweat it. The world is filled with people who "don't fit in" and the fact is that they are the ones who make life interesting. In fact, more often than not, the ones who don't fit in are going to make their living off of the ones who do. All your friends who are addicted to Wii and xBox and all that crap..who do you think created those items and the games that are played on them? Do you want to be a piece of hay in the haystack, or do you want to be the needle? Do
If I copy something from you - where exactly is this "taking" happening? You still have your copy - what have I deprived you?
Easy...you have deprived me the right to deny you the chance to copy it, or ask for some type of compensation in return for the chance to copy it. So, in the eyes of the law, copyright infringement may not be stealing, as you would not be stealing anything from me physically. But you would be stealing my ability to ask for compensation in exchang
*Sigh* - its NOT theft - that isn't anyone's opinion its a fact of LAW. Period.
Ok, let us not start arguing whether or not something that has been passed into law is a fact. That will take us into another direction completely. I am saying that despite what the law SAYS, the argument can be made that piracy and/or copyright infringement are forms of theft. Not sure why you brought up the RIAA, as I never mentioned it, but the fact remains that stealing intangibles, whe
Copyright infringement is completely different to stealing
That's very profound. I think I will put that on a t-shirt and sell it and make millions and not give you any. Still think it's not stealing? The sad fact is that for as long as there have been people trying to get ahead by selling something, there have been other people trying to get ahead by not paying for it. The harder the merchant tries to prevent theft, the harder the thieves try to

SDC did have some small updates last night. What were those? There was even one for TA, but I didn't download it because I'm in the middle of a game. I don't remember the version number right now.

Just wondering what this is 700% of? I got one of these tile recently, and the total research points of the planet it was on, once I built a research facility, did not increase by 7 times. It was more like 2.5 to 3 times. So, when we get these bonus tiles, how is the bonus distributed?

Anyone have this issue? I just noticed it in the last few games I've played. For any planet that I win by influence, any displaced ships head for their nearest friendly planet, but get caught in some kind of loop where they spend their moves heading for their planet on one turn, and then on the next turn, head back to the original starting point. As far as I can tell, they will stay in that loop for the rest of the game, or until they are destroyed.
I probably should have made a post on the forums yesterday, but I was very involved in debugging a problem right up until I left and by that time I had forgotten about it.
This is the "problem" with good customer service..the customers get "spoiled". We've come to EXPECT regular beta updates. I didn't memorize the beta calendar, but where did it say that a new beta needs to come out every week? They should come out when they are ready, and not before. Stardock should
Erm, the ultimate part of the game is winning - or losing. That's what it all leads up to. So... that is rather serious, yes.
Let me clarify...I would consider a bug that crashes the game upon achieving a diplomatic victory (or loss) a SERIOUS bug. But programming logic that does not allow the AI to achieve a diplomatic victory is not what I would consider a SERIOUS bug, especially if it's not actually a bug, but intentional coding. I'm not saying I under
Simply put... A gateway to a network of home computers... to participate, you agree to host, so each one holds a piece of a file(s), so it's distributed out among alot of computers. Stuff goes on and off your computer and everyone else's, creating a huge network. It also incorporates a "give to get" model, meaning you have to host stuff and allow download from your PC in order to download from everyone else's, technically.
So it's like P2P file sharing? Maybe this has been mentioned before, and maybe it will be addressed before the final release of TA, but since Xeno manufacturing techs are integral to completing starbases, how do the races that don't have Xeno techs, but rather proprietary ones, make full use of any starbases? Or are they not supposed to?

Never underestimate the power of instant gratification! Doesn't the influence victory say you have to control 75% of a map to win? If you had a much smaller area than the Terrans, they probably only had to flip one or two planets to beat you. Is it 75% of a map (area) or 75% of the inhabited planets on a map?
I certainly didn't ignore that. I did make the point that if Starbase defenses were buffed in the late game, latter game Military Starbase powers could be used to "fortify" your way all across the galaxy and take over enemies using technically inferior ships and technology.
I stand corrected. I didn't see that anyone had posted comments that related to mine. Then again, I kind of glossed over the really long ones. They felt like homework. On side note, are the sensor

Well, since my other comment was ignored, I'll try this one. I keep seeing a reference to starbases being used as static defenses. This discussion is not about that, and that is not their purpose in this game, not even the military starbases. The original topic was that starbases were unable to properly defend THEMSELVES late in the game. Starbases in this game have primarily a utility role, not an offensive one. If you want static defenses, then items such as defense platforms (as in Homew
