It's not uncommon for me to see several thousand income per turn on the gigantic maps I prefer. When I'm bringing in 10,000 bc income, a 100 bc bonus from trade really isn't doing much. I do like the diplomatic bonuses, but other than saying "nice doggy" to somebody while I beat on their neighbors, there's not much of a real effect.

Two of the top-selling computer games of all time? Sims series and World of Warcraft. Expanding your target demographic from 12-24 year old males to everyone with a computer can't hurt too much I guess. In each case, the player can identify with someone. In the Sims, you're basically playing with a dollhouse. Yes guys, you are finally playing with dolls, making up stories, and acting them out. In WoW, it's all about social interaction. Sure you can get to level 70 solo, but if
@Mighty Goobi: I'm curious about how you're even able to have this discussion in the first place. I've been under the impression that words like 法輪 and 洪志 (Referring to Falun Gong and its founder), 美國之音 (Voice of America), 民主 (democracy) 六四 (6-4, June 4th, the day of the Tiananmen Square massacre, with connotations similar to 9-11 in America), and 達賴 (Dalai, as in Dalai Lama), all tend to get blocked within China by the Golden Shield project. I just went to Baidu.com myself and
Sometimes it's worth it to give somebody a tech. Take banks for example... please! The same resources the AI invests in the 20% bonus of a xeno bank would give them 30% bonus from a pair of trade centers. In return you can either get some good will or some actually useful technologies. AI is being stubborn in a trade? Sweeten the deal with a planet or two. Make sure they're underdeveloped and sitting right next to your biggest influence generators. Two or three turns later
Sounds like your #1 problem is money. Credits make the galaxy go 'round. I usually have my spending pegged to 100% and it stays there the entire game. More tips: 1: Rush, rush, rush. You can't go as insane as you did pre-TA, but you can still grab a bunch of planets. Tech up to the Recruiting Station, slap down some economy buildings and put your taxes at whatever gets you 100% morale at first. When you're about to go broke, ramp it up until you're making enough each turn to st
...wow, THAT was an interesting couple of turns. I'm playing on a Gigantic scale so the game's still chugging along, but going from nothing to Medium to High in two turns on each of the other nine races makes my life so much easier. Slapping 25 spies on somebody usually means I run out of econ buildings. And morale buildings. And I start working my way through intelligence buildings. It was kind of interesting to note that every race out there was making research buildings like crazy. I
Well, having just made a whole bunch of agents, I'm experimenting with placing *all* of them on one opponent at a time. Sure I might lose 1-2, but 20+ agents gets you a lot of information in a hurry. I can also do a serious number on somebody by suddenly disabling every financial and/or morale building I can find.
Ahh, I begin to understand now. I'm used to throwing cash at the problem and over the next couple of turns, getting back results. I'll try throwing agents at people instead. Is the agent-placing requirement actually spelled out anywhere, or is this something people have figured out through experience?
Depends entirely on what you like to play. I use a 5 year old computer for my primary gaming needs. I've dropped $150 into upgrades since I bought it. It still does wonderfully for brand-new games. Then again, I've never made the mistake of trying to play Crysis on that machine. Funny, that. Crysis has the most beautiful graphics you've ever (or more likely never) seen. But its sales have been abysmal. When I play GalCiv2, I play it zoomed out so that all I can see is a bunch of icons.
My spending is maxed at 25%. I'm pumping in thousands of credits per turn from the #1 economy in the game. I have 22 agents already, with more constantly on the way. Yet I am stuck at Very Low espionage against even the smallest of minor races on this Gigantic map. This seems very broken.
How to build a ridiculously overpowered fleet: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/177532"]WWW Link[/link] Mihai Hajdu more or less ended the discussion as far as TA is concerned.
As others have said, some tech guy lied to you. Try using [link="http://www.pricewatch.com"]Pricewatch[/link] to do a little shopping. Check [link="http://www.tigerdirect.com"]Tiger Direct[/link] and [link="http://www.newegg.com"]Newegg[/link] are also great shopping sites and they tend to be a little easier to deal with on the off chance you were sold a broken item. I think I was about 12 years old when my father managed to misconfigure the boot chip on the motherboard and tol
The AI seems to charge me an arm and a leg for those techs. At the same time, it's really nice to have a 100% bonus to your base morale. When I went to the Thalans for their research-cheap global bonus techs, they wanted most of my savings or around 5 times the RP worth of my techs. I paid in techs. And then I paid in techs to the Torians for theirs, and the...
I'm having just the opposite problem. Made an ascension starbase because I needed the life support range to get to the other side of a Gigantic map, realized everyone hates me because I was trying to ascend, so I "helpfully" gave it to the Torians. Now the Torians have the starbase and the ascension points, and I still have the diplomacy penalty.
The combat AI in TA was tweaked with the introduction of all the fleet modules. This *radically* changes tactical combat, as Mihai noted. A ship with fleet modules is, from what I can tell, always the top priority in a fight. Makes sense, right? If you can destroy that ship, every other ship in the fleet is penalized. If you can destroy that ship. If. As a human fighting against that AI, you need to do three things to see absolutely ridiculous success in heavy fighting: <br
Since the search function in these forums seems to be broke, I apologize if I'm asking a repeatedly-answered question. I'm betting that's the case. If I go into Stardock Central, Archive my GalCiv2 game, install Stardock Central on another computer and transfer my archive files into the other PC, can I re-install my game from those files? I'm trying to transfer over a bunch of Stardock games to my laptop before I take a trip and I'd rather not choke out my Internet connection for a day or
So for the rest of you who've finished the campaign, is there anything good I missed by not losing a mission anywhere along the line? I heard there were some neat alternate missions somewhere, but for obvious reasons I don't have any information on them.
Well, I just finished my Twilight of the Arnor campaign and I have to say that was the silliest, most underwhelming finale I've ever seen. It seemed like there were two ways to win: The traditional way and the perceptive, five-minute way. Apocalypse looked like a neat remix of an earlier scenario: Get to the other side of this map as fast as you can. Unlike the previous one, you needed to blow through a determined Dread Lords defense once you got there. I look at my tech tree and it's ful
It's not exactly a bug, but if the campaign scenario says you've got to ally with somebody, how about giving that faction the Alliances tech to start out? Took me until about 20 turns after I'd squashed everybody BUT the Iconians to finally realize I had to hand over that tech for them to actually ally up and end the scenario.
This thread has convinced me we also need a negative karma option.
I usually get 1 morale building as quickly as possible. I also tend to leave my taxes at whatever level is necessary to get 100% morale until I'm broke. I figure it works out kinda like this: 49% taxes in early game gets me 10 credits 29% taxes in early game gets me 6 credits 49% taxes in mid-game with double the population growth up until now gets me 500 credits 49% taxes in mid-game with normal population growth because I've been taxing the hell outta my people t
Commburu, I'm the kind of guy you find on the other end of that help desk phone. I also get to influence buying decisions, even if I don't make the final call. (::sigh:: Someday...) The only reason I will see Vista on any machine I'm supporting in the next 2-3 years is because somebody who's much further up the chain than I am gets a bug up their butt and decides the Microsoft Kool-Aid tastes just fine, thank you very much. I know XP. I'm familiar with XP's problems. I know XP'
..Neutrality learning centers? As in, the thing you learn after researching good & evil? You've obviously been playing that game for a number of turns. And yet you picked Mars of all places for your research capital. How many tiles did Mars get in your game? 10? 12? 16? Try this: 1. Go to http://rapidshare.com/ 2. Browse to your last savegame file using the button on your screen 3. Upload it and paste the link here for everyone else. Within 24 hours you'll probably
[quote]Obviously makig real AI is simply not so simple. BR, Iztok[/quote] It's not, but it [I]is[/I] possible to make one that's truly vicious without allowing it to cheat. I play on Tough difficulty level because of two things: 1) I'm a beginner. Never touched the game since a brief foray when it first game out. Forgot everything I learned since then, and had to start over from "So how does combat work again?" and move up. 2) I like to match myself against t
I found myself staring a Yor fleet in the face a little while ago and I'd neglected to tech up my hull designs. Fortunately, reinforced hull points added to a standard cargo hull let me create an 11 HP, 4 laser, 2 (something or another) defense ship to hold them off. At the end, my cargo ship had levelled. So I shrugged and figured I might as well get some use out of it. Half a game later, I have a level 21, 44 HP cargo ship that's beating the hell out of everything in sight. From w
