I notice you left out the ultimate beam weapon, the Doom Ray. How come? I always go for the Doom Ray as my first real weapon. I don't even build a ship until I have it.

Lazyness will prevent you from doing a lot of things... You know... You could always do what I do. Begin the game by going for Research Centers, Research Acadamies, Xeno Ethics, NLC first, and in that order. Have you Research slider set to 65% or so, to get there faster. Then, you won't have to upgrade as many when you get the NLC, and you will have it early enough in the game to give it the most advantage in the game. Then after they are all upgr

I have wondered about that too, but for a different reason. Just about every debug.err contains that line. Go through and look at all the debug.err's in the posts. But, mine does not say that. That line is missing in all my debug.err's. By the way, post #24 links to Test 8, which is the one I was using because it was further down and mentioned an updated .exe. Then I noticed the mention further down about Test 9, and noticed that I was on Test 8. So I checked the link in post 1 and found it to link to Test 9. I downloaded Test 9 and tried it. Same thing happens with Test 9 with a Control-N. The first time I tried the game crashed. The debug.err is identical to the first debug.err I po

Well, this is not working very well on my computer. This time I had a nice 300% research bonus tile on my home world, so I bought a Xeno Lab, set up some stuff to build, and went on to colonize my first planet. A nice class 17 one star over. As soon as the ship got there, the game crashed. I had upped my swap file from 128MB to 768MB, by the way, just to see if that would make a difference. I was able to Control-N a little more after I increased the swap file, but the max was 2,

Go figure. I figured it would happen and it did. Here is the debug.err. It crashes consistantly when doing more than 1 or 2 Control-N's. I just hate being backed into a corner, you know? And i always seem to end up there more times than not. 1.1 was so stable for me. Very few crashes, fewer than any other build. I'll let you know if it crashes more in-game, once I get that far. I really want to try out the new combat mode. Debug Message: Version v1.1 Memory

Yes, they do too research the Ethics branch, as well as soldering. I have seen them do it. You do not need to spy to keep an eye on their alignments. That info is always there. I very seldom will put money into espionage. I think it is a waste unless I want to look directly at their worlds. I can tell from the ships they are building what tech level they are at, and at their alignment to see if they are likely to have those particular weapons. But I have seen several that h

In my last game things changed rather dramatically because of this, I think. I was allied to several races, the only one not was the Drengin. They had just declared war on the Iconian Refuge, which then asked if I would honor my alliance with them. I said yes, which put me at war with the Drengin. I had just been building a new set of ships, as the Drengin were the only race aside from myself with beam weapons and I needed ships with shields for this war. So I brought out my new ships

It can take a few minutes to get back into the game, especially if you play it full screen, even on a fast computer. Be patient.

"This is an example of the settings I prefer to use (they must be adjusted from time to time as the game progresses). 60% tax rate 55% morale 100% manufacturing 15% military 20% social 65% research" I have 55% tax rate to start, which gives a 75% morale. And I leave the manufacturing slider at default until I am in the green, then I adjust it up as I can while still maintaining a slight profit. I always go for Research Cenrter, Research Acadamy

The thing that gets me is, all the time spent talking about it and complaining sooooo much about it. What is the big deal about a missing picture? It is the only one that is a blank black picture thumbnail. It is easy to find because it is blank.

Go back to the previous autosave then. That is your only option at this point. Once that initial screen goes away there is no way to choose again, or differently.

I have said it before, and I will state the fact again. The Mind Control Center is not just an in game feature. The devs have modified our computers EM fields slightly with an ever so subtle, but ever so real, Mind Control Center that is embedded into the .exe file. It is so subtle that the virus checkers don't pick up on it. But, I know it is there. I know it is. I just know it. Can't control

And which building would you upgrade it from? It would have to be the Discovery Sphere, because the lesser research buildings use that upgrade path - which is a different branch altogether from the NLC. I usually focus on research when I start a game until I can get the NLC, then upgrade any research building I have built so far into the NLC before I go for the Invention Matrix and Discovery Sphere. That way I don't spent the extra on upgrading them over and over. And I onl

No, the only way to get the screen that lets you choose is at the time you complete to research. It will not come up if the research is already completed when the game starts, and there is no area - like with the governments - that lets you change it. Another AI advantage. I have had screens come up telling me that so-and-so race has had a change of heart and is now good, evil, whatever. And these are races that I know have already made the choice in the game, they are not merely 'lea
