I've had something like this happen to me. But my galaxy looked something like two seperate organizations of alliances. On the left, Terran, Altarian, Torian etc. Right, Drengin, Yor, Arcean, etc. Something like that. It's peaceful for some months or so, until an assassination event comes along. Everyone, and I truly mean everyone, got into a war or two. A glorious game that left me giddy for days. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Yum.gif" border=0 ALIGN="abs

I have experienced a problem such as that with the Yor. However, it was in the 1.1 version. I caught the Yor in the act of UPGRADING their ships from a normal to a precursor ship. It was early on the game so from 0/0/1 to a 30 or so attack really gave them bragging rights. And not just one ship, nearly 15 of them.
Actually, now that I think about it, I would think that paying your way to a new alignment is an official way of cheesing. I usually play neutral, yes they rock, but occasionally I play good. When I play good, I have to manipulate my other good races with technology to catch up, free ships for defence, and sometimes paying the enemy out of warring with them. Sure I'm basically being the races babysitter, but having an extra pair of votes, allies, and buffer really settle my mind of
I definately agree with what all of you are saying. As for No118, I forgot to say I would suggest the change in addition to what already happens to the alignment. For example, a decision to kill millions of people is much worse than selling yummy blood, which results in an immediate change + the change in alignment. In short, I suggest short term effects compounded with the long term effects of conflicting beliefs. I would only guess it places such ethical choices with deeper thoug
I'd just like to start by suggesting a change/addition in the current way ethical choices are made. When confronted with problems, you either take good, neutral, or bad. Most of us players choose bad and pay our way to another alignment with Xeno Ethics. So what I suggest is a change in diplomacy/favor of respective races depending on your decision. For example, if I choose my usual Evil, I get the bonuses, but good and neutral races get a negative setback due to my current actions against N
Think so, yeah. AI never breaks an alliance. Or at least, never seems to. I for certain know they can break alliances. In a game of me, 4 struggling races, and the large Drengin, I allied with all the races but the Drengin. They soon declared war with me, 2 races followed our alliance, but the other two broke it. The game doesn't tell you if they
I argee with the "buying" of alliances. Perhaps, just perhaps, if your current alignment is good, the xeno ethics will not provide the choice of evil and the other way around. And choosing an alignment that you currently aren't may have to pay 5k or w/e AND say 10 turns of "anarchy" just as how Civ4 is with civics. The point is to have those decisions of ethics more serious.
Along with the stats, one has to look at the techs given too. Also, you have to add the the starting planet quality. And the AI strength. In the end, they are fairly balanced.
I agree with quite a bit of what you say, like the temples and the *shiver* Galactic Guidebook, but I find that +1 speed from accelerators a nice add-on (As I've been in countless situations where that one last move saved my planet from invasion.) Also, the Secret Police adds 20% BASE its quite different from an entertainment that adds 25% while considering a ton of other situations placed upon it. However, as for miniturization, I don't know if they changed it in the current beta, b
Wow these are some interesting names? Mind if I borrow some? As for me, I use names such as Tiny- Gnat, Small- Bee, Medium- Wasp, etc. After each name I follow it with *name* Alpha/Beta/Gama/etc... And guess what? The gnat, bee, wasp line of ships are missile STINGER lines. I feel so clever.

I have the same problem, so I would like to answer CodeCritter's advise by saying yes the problem continues even with Mods unchecked for me.
Sounds great, however, I'd like to see it as an option. It is really hard to balance differing abilities and I'd like to turn those bonuses off if I want a completely fair game. BTW, if I remember, the Yor may be machine, but they were built to consume food, so farms seem reasonable to them.
Yes, there is a branch of techs that are dedicated to planetary defence. The ships docked in planets will be able to attack as a fleet so long as you dedicate a tile for planetary defence on each planet you want like that. However, to be honest, I never built one. I usually fill each planet with the out-of-date ships. Sure the enemy may be able to easily mow them down one by one, but that usually gives me time to assembly a fleet in space, and take care of the potential invaders.
Torians and the Altarian expand a lot to me. The Torians expand in the colony rush, but the Altarian war so much they obtain planets from the other races. Coming in next would have to be the Arcean and the Drengin, both because of warring.
Don't want to sound mean, but that image is too small to make out anything. Try uploading the image to anothe host, I get problems with photobucket once in a while. Like imageshack.us I have had the Independant League show up, but they broke away from an AI. Looks like a bug, but I would like to see the image first.
I have this happen often to me as well. It seems more like a code mess-up than a graphic. The code simply is input to load gfx so-and-so, and those said planets have loaded Sol gfx.
Ah, I feel retarded now. About the factory I SS'd from the game. The factory may not produce influence, but that 100%+ influence is shown to be carried over to the colonial summary shown next to the starport one. What was 25%+ from the capital, is now 125%+ that affects the planet's population and junk right? According to the numbers, it just seems to work. As for the manu centers, yeah it doesn't make sense for a 700% of 50% to be 350. The game is seeing the center as a 50 marke
Bump, sorry, these questions seem important to me, can make a difference in strategy.
Wow nice graph AngleWyrm, so your graph gives a visual of the expectations I should see. As for smjjames, Oh I forgot about approval bonuses! You simply build an entertainment center on it to get its bonus. But an interesting question would be, does the approval cross over no matter what the improvement like influence, do wonders that provide morale also benefit from the bonus?
Actually, I personally screencaptured those. The only reason for the low quality is cause I saved it as a jpg. And the reason I fit 3 different screens into one was for sheer luxory. I didn't save the screenshots as I just cut it from each, but sure if its the manufacturing you need, I'll get another one. What do you mean, "Since you aren't generating any influence it doesn't matter anyway". Sorry it's not that I want to sound like a jerk, it's that I don't understand what that se
You can also just use notepad, minimal computer knowledge is needed to figure it out. But I'd be interested in seeing what context looks like.
Well I did some more looking into this. http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/2903/1232yj1.jpg Ok, the first image is a factory build over an influence bonus. To the right, you can see the influence bonus still added onto the factory! I gave the image of the overall, and it gives the influence bonus 125%. Am I reading it incorrectly? The second is a normal factory built onto a 100% bonus tile. Nothing unusual, this is supposedly what most people do? But there o
Okay, let's see, there is the research, manufacture, food, and influence bonus. I have a question or two for each one! Research... What is the supposed highest or the highest bonus you have ever seen? Manufacture... To all factors that have a capital to it, i.e. Factory, Labs, Political, will it be more beneficial to place the center on the bonus, or placing the capital on a normal tile. I have made it a manner to place the Manufacturing Capital the my best industrial b
