a points table done on quality rather than quantity (ie points/number of players)....
The last I heard, it already is points/players (or actually sq. rt. of players, same as individual scores wrt. number of games). ~SDC~
I don't like that, I mean, why does it have to happen gradually? Can't it just be automatic, like slapping on a new shield generator?
Because ships are assumed to be field upgraded, and that tends to be a time consuming operation, espectially for a ship in deep space. ~SDC~
What about the speed ones, CariElf??
I can't claim to have an athourative answer, but speed mods of +1 or +2 should be safe. +3 or more speed from a single mod is less certain. Range probably follows the same guidelines (not that range mods are particularly useful: I usually can't make use of all of the base ones in a Gigantic galaxy). In general, mods that do less than the highest existing base GC mod are probably safe. (+40 for most abilities, +1 fo
Maybe the Diplomats and Ambassadors get something better.
I haven't noticed anything different. Then again, I also have no idea when or how I got Diplomat, and I haven't bothered looking for anything unusual either. ~SDC~
Well, that answers a question I had. I have the Abandoned Terraformer and Enhanced Terraforming mod, causing all of my planets to be PQ 50+ when I finished. I think I should restrict using Enhanced Terraforming and Omni Terraforming to planets that are subpar and reduce the availability of Abandoned Terraformer.
I'm pretty sure it's by individual mod, not the net total. I will note that all of the base techs that had +PQ no longer do, so if any of parent techs of those i
Aside for losing a nice planet would the empires have got extra disadvantages from this?
Taking a race's homeworld supposedly has several potential concequinces, including the possibility of the race breaking into three seperate empires. I can't think of any occurances of this in practice, however. ~SDC~
But does anyone know what makes an event/tech/etc "legal" so far as getting your score into the metaverse?
The only known gotcha is a PQ mod above +40 (presumably outside the base GC files, since the Life Crystal Artifact event has a potential +50 PQ evil choice). Presumably other high mods will cause anomolous scores, but the thresholds for the other attributes are still unknown. ~SDC~
If the SD online user manual is wrong, it's not my fault
The original manual wasn't written by Stardock, and, last I checked, not all of the corrections have been made to the version on the SDC or on this site yet. ~SDC~
killed them all, and my morality only dropped 1 (down to 49).
The change in morality is influenced by how big of an effect the choice in question has. Something with no bonus or penalty always changes your morality by exactly 1. ~SDC~
(Fulgrymm) OMFG, that must be a guiness record or something. You really should consider upgrading that a little bit.
That is upgraded a bit. When I first started playing the beta versions, I only had 48MB RAM. I do have a Celron 300 with 96MB RAM sitting on the floor half-assembled, though.
(PontiusBruinPilot) I loaded it up on a 486 dx2 66 64mg ram. Unhappily, I could not set the record. There is indeed a bottom end.
T
The minimum requirements are somewhat overinflated, in my opinion, but for good reason. In my experience, people today seem to think slightly slower means 'omg!1 i kant play tihs its two slwo!!!1!1!11oneoneeleven.' For reference, I'm playing GalCiv on a Pentium-MMX 200MHz with 80MB RAM without any significant problems that a bit of paitence wouldn't solve. On Gigantic galaxies at harder difficulty levels the AI's next turn processing can drag on a bit, but it's not really problematic
1) I wonder if they can do a 'cleanup' of the Metaverse, ie just delete players/empires who have not submitted for 2,3,6 months, whatever. Clean out the 'deadwood' from the empires and the boards and leave the ongoing contributors. I know that there is an 'aging' process to scores, but I don't think old ones disappear completely.
I would strongly advise against that. I, for one, don't submit games (I tend towards intentionally trying to break things, and that doesn't exa
Please make sure that the Object Desktop Common Files are installed. OK. I understead this one. Then I installed another one on the program list. And it still did not work. The same message comes always up. From where I can download then any way?
As noted, this isn't really the most appropriate forum, but the ODCommon files should have been installed by the SDC installer, AFAIK. If you just installed the SDC on Win9x (including WinME), you may need
Just to be helpful, if you do choose to order it from Stardock you should probably pay the extra $5.00 for them to mail you a CD. Since you said you use a 56k modem still. Downloading the game with one of those would probably be awful. Especially if you don't have a download manager to pick up where you stopped if you loose connection.
If you're downloading it from Stardock you do have the option of using the Stardock Central client, which does support download resuming
They were simply in charge of the original system. I don't know what became of the Arceans but the Free Arceans flipped over to my culture about two months after the event.
If they only had one system before, the Arcean Empire itself was destroyed. Free Arcea basically took over the government (which would suggest that it should have remained a major race, but there probably isn't anything in the game to check if the whole empire rebelled against it's government rather t
did a forum search but no luck, I just wanted to make sure I had updated correctly, considering the verion number doesn't jive...thanks for help
That 1.0.0.1 is a default MSVC enters if the version is not set in the compiler, IIRC. Only the version listed in the Stardock Central client or in GalCiv's options menu is correct. GalCiv reports the just the major and minor revision numbers, the SDC reports the major revision, minor revision, build number, and alpha/beta/rele
That's if the AI don't disband it first.
You'll get at least one turn to do it in. Mass build the terror star with a fleet of constructors, then colonize/trade/exterminate. ~SDC~
Does evil have an affect on morale?
Not directly, but there are numerous ways it can indirectly influence it. For starters, being evil means worse relations with other AI, and thus more destabilization targeting you, which means lower morale on the average. ~SDC~
In fact why are there stars with no PQ rating? What is there purpose?
A planet's influence is also affected by it's planet quality and it's population. Influence 0 stars will gain influence after they're colonized by virtue of the population of the system. On non-purple stars, base influence is generally between 0 and 3 points. Greens have a slightly better chance of having higher influence before colonization. Purples almost always have a higher influence.<b
What I meant was the empire that gets it is far weaker than you, so it needs help to compete with you. I've never seen the event help out much. Has anyone ever seen any real changes from it?
It does help if the race is one you're not activly hostile with. It just takes a while for it to build up steam. For the first few years, you could probably outpace the race's improvement simply from research and anomoly exploration. They do get bonuses to very hard to im
Why is there a limit to the number of ships in orbit?
You can have any number of ships at a single location, you just can't build more at a specific system if there are already 16 in orbit of that system. Launch some and your building will continue normally.
Is there a higher maintence fee for ships in orbit than not?
No, but if you have 16 idle ships at a single system, they'd better be constructors or colony ships. If they're not, you'
Just a quick question to those in the know . . . If I have a saved game with a 'super-duper' good starting position can I play that game from scratch over and over again or just twice submission wise . . . ?
Any single game generated can only be submitted twice for a score, regardless of the end state of that game. The intent of this function is to compare your own scores for self-improvement with a definite base reference. ~SDC~
