One thing I am still having trouble with though is signing into this forum. I type my name and password but it's always incorrect?
Last time I looked (I rarely sign out on this computer) signing on to the website is by e-mail and password, not nickname and password. ~SDC~
but how big is the bonus about?
Around 10 influence points, IIRC. Not much at first, but it can add up after improvements/starbases. ~SDC~
Who was the idiot that placed a quote inside a quote and didn't close one of them properly?
They were closed properly. The forum can't handle nested quotes at all, for some reason. ~SDC~
Pardon my vociferousness, but WHY IN *&^ WOULD SOMEBODY BIND THAT TO THE ESC KEY?? It's a "Done" button, it's the ONLY button on the dialog box, and every other Windows program in the world uses the Enter key to click the default button in a dialog box.
Because the other Windows default is to bind Esc to Close and/or Cancel. Almost all Windows dialogs with a 'do nothing' option, or with no options at all, can be closed just as easily with Esc, and that's actually the ke
That is exactly what I have been trying to get at but everyone thinks that I was looking for a graphics engine rewrite.
It would still require rerendering the UI, which is a large part of the graphics, and require adding more MB to an already fairly large download for those new UI renderings. Expect an increase of about 10 MB or so for each additional resolution, if on-the-fly rendering isn't used. On-the-fly rendering would slow the game down, and would increas
I hate how slow everything is on bigger maps...but mostly I hate having to explore everything and develop every resource... too much constructor management time as it is... maybe the expansion will fix that a bit.
Rally points will definitely help with that. I have 17 raly points set right now. All of them are autorouting of constructors to one anomoly or another. ~SDC~
I thought the point was that the library mods were "approved" for the metaverse....As I've said elsewhere, subsequent games (that haven't bombed out) appear to have gone up OK.
They are, more or less, but some mods don't quite work right, and that could be what triggered the 'anomalous' reading. I have severeal mods here that cause GalCiv to crash irregularly. All of them that I've run into have been fixed in the library, but my local copies haven't been replace
how many of you will work a week without pay!!! no i didn't think so. Stardock also has to pay it's employees and bills.
Most of Stardock's income comes from the Object Desktop suite. This is, more or less, a diversion for the crew (or at least was: GalCiv's success may make this a more significant part of their buisness in the future). That said, I'm sure that Brad and Co. doesn't mind the extra income from the occasional user that wants to play with the slight
And to make it possible to sort the files in relation to the date they were uploaded
Last I checked, it already can sort by upload date, although update date would probably be better (and is also sortable already, AFAIK). A single bugged data file can cause wierd problems in the game sometimes. ~SDC~
All comments made, not by just beta testers, affect the future direction of this game by Frogboy & Co.
Well, yes. My intent was to note that comments early on that involve significant changes are easier to work with simply because most of the rest of the system is still more maliable. Beta testers would have access to the game much earlier than end users, and would be able to make such suggestions at a time when they are more likely to be considered simply beca
Is there any way to disable all that startup stuff? Go straight to the menu without the movies and animation?
You can't skip the menu anumation, but the instructions above will skip the two intro movies and the start of game movie (leave colony_leaving.bik if you still want that movie). ~SDC~
Do Minors attack? I have never had a Minor attack me or threaten me. (Although I assume the Fundamentalists may attack if I were evil).
The I-League, the Draginol, the Dark Arnor, the Fundimentalists, and the Calor/Venge are a speical class of minor races that have all of the abilities that major races do. They can, and often will, threaten and declare war on various races, culture flip planets, and could potentially win the game. They just don't count for your competio
Well, I would bet that you would find it a little more of a "fatal flaw" if your machine which will play any 1st person shooter at 1280x1024 and play it well suddenly had a 2d game that looked something like Wolfenstein 3d on a 386 and whoa, turns out it was a "programming decision" to not support resolution changes, something that is industry standard not any sort of hardware issue...
No, as a matter of fact, I wouldn't. The games I play most often right now besides Ga
Try PgUp, PgDown, End and Home for the four diagnols.
Specifically, it's Home-Up -PgUp Left-xxx-Right End-Down-PgDn ~SDC~
As Geoffrey Montgomery and Yellow Sign said, you don't pay to become a beta tester. You pay for a subscription to drengin.net, which allows you to have all stardock games, and as a bonus one might add, you get to have patches and in this case the ex-pack a bit earlier. This means you can also help developpers, and therefore be a beta tester.
And given the experiences of past betas, you get to directly influence the development of the game earlier on, when it's eas
. There has been some discussion as to whether this is realistic, but the story is that your factories take all the spending to upkeep, whether they are cranking stuff out or not.
You have to pay the workers or fire them, as well, and if you fire people, they're not earning wages anymore, and then you don't have anything to tax. ~SDC~
that was going to be my next question: is there a point of diminishing returns on a starbase? Can the upkeep outweigh the economic bonuses received?
There are points of diminishing returns on certain effects starbases influence, but not on the starbases specifically. Production at a colony encounters a point of diminishing returns when the bonus production reaches 10×PQ, and a second when normal production reaches 30×PQ. Tax income at a colony reaches a
Just for kicks and grins I dumped 7 bases in one sector all with 343% bonus to culture and now when I click on the icon to see how much influence I have in that sector it says I have 131 Million influence. This just seems a bit excessive to me.
There is one report of someone overflowing the influence, so 4 billion isn't entirely inconcievable as it stands right now. ~SDC~
It says "we have fallen behind technologically". What gives? Does the AI have some starting adventages? How can we have fallen behind in the 1st turn?
What this means is that you have less that a certain percentage of the total tech in the galaxy. The game starts everyone with the exact same tech (non at all), and as a result, you don't meet that condition. I haven't tooked at it too closely, but I suspect it's 35% or so of total tech. In other words, you have
For values like research, you have to edit the base bonus. Editing the value of your total bonus is useless as the game will recalculate the correct value. This is for version 1.05. Also, when I changed the research bonus to 1000, the research bonus no longer showed up in the stat screen, but the techs started flying by so it worked. If anyone know the max values for these stats, that'd be appreciated too.
The values dissapear at +999% (I reported this along time ago... t
well my computer is p3 1Ghz, 256MBRAM, TNT2 32 MB video card, Sound blaster sound card.
Certain Soundblaster cards have been implicated as problematic with GalCiv (and other games). You may want to check for newer drivers or a newer DriectX version, or try reinstalling codecs that the Soundblaster software may have altered or removed. ~SDC~
OTH The above comment by Arturus Magi suggests there must have been some significant changes to AI research paths since the original version of Galiv. I have seen the AI research my custom techs after it reached final fronter but I don't know which ones did such research. I have seen the AI research one of my custom techs but so far as I know it has done this only once.
The Arceans specifically have a fixed tech list. The others use various alogarithims to pick the next
Do the races, other than the Drengin, have a fixed sequence of techs to research which they will research regardless of whether or not they have the prerequisite techs? All evidence available to me suggests this is so.
Some of them do, and some of them don't. The other races should have researched something though. All of them research things after finishing Final Frontier here, and the Arcean's tech list doesn't have anything after Final Frontier in it. ~SDC~
Note : There's a limit to how much you can put into an unsigned it before it flip over, I just cant remember what it was exactly and I dont feel like calculating it
(2^32)-1 in an unsigned long, ((2^32)/2)-1 in a signed. 4,294,967,295 and 2,147,483,647 respectively. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
