Thanks for starting this, Purge! Luckily I had just started a game as Altarians before you announced this. The real problem with playing as Altarians, if you're doing so because you find the Altarian woman attractive (as I do!), is that you can't see her then . In that sense, she's better as an enemy. Just think of the make-up sex after a brutal war <img src="http://images.stardoc

Yeah, you guys are right. I don't see switching really making any difference. I guess I just had a run of bad luck for awhile when switching!

his famous "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" statement I was very interested to hear recently that, after analyzing the audio feed, some knowledgable people somewhere have concluded that he actually said, "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." The "a" appears to have fallen out due to it not being loud enough, IIRC. If you listen to it again, notice a little blip between "for" and "man". I was convinced, at least.

So has it been confirmed that off-type is now degrading as intended? Yes, somebody from Stardock (a programmer, though I don't remember who) recently said that he couldn't see any problem. He thought any new reports were the result of people not entirely understanding the system or falsely estimating their chances.

I spyed on all planets, but did not see an MCC. Ah, but you missed the point about the MCC. It's not that if the opponent has it, his planets will be almost impossible to flip. It's if YOU have it. It gives 100% econ to you, but makes it very difficult for you to flip an opponent's planet.

Perhaps we should wait to hear from someone who has communicated with ES since the ban to see what mindset he has right now. I have nothing against him, in fact I liked him on this forum quite a lot, but I'd just suggest some caution before nominating someone who might not want anything at all to do with GCII right now (not that I'm asserting that he's in that frame of mind). I'm personally very happy with the candidates so far, and I think there are at least a few more people who woul

Maybe they were doing some rush-buying or had an economy that couldn't sustain their full production potential. Is going to zero really bankrupt, as long as you're bringing in funds on the next turn? I'm really asking, as I'm not sure what the definition is that you're working with. What if you really could go bankrupt in the game? You'd undergo economic or other penalties for awhile, but your leases would all disappear!

Of course maybe these strategy isn't feasible if you aren't going to play "screw the AI in trades for cash". Can anyone provide more info on that aspect? You're definitely not "screwing the AI in trades for cash." The AI will pay you far less for techs than you'd have to pay if you were buying from the AI. You can be a tech whore, but then you won't have a big tech advantage. In fact, you'll usually be behind in tech because you won't be buying what t

2 nominees and we're both Australian. Now that is a small world... I hereby nominate myself purely on the basis that I'm neither Australian nor Canadian No, that was just a joke (the nominating part, I mean). I'm not so good on councils and such!

Actually, they could remove the Production slider and alter the effect of the other sliders so that there would be no change to gameplay at all. Moving the Military, Social and Research sliders all to 100% would be exactly like having Production at 100%, and all the other sliders set equal to each other. And moving the Military, Social and Research sliders all to 50% would be exactly like having the Production slider at 50%, and all the other sliders

A question out of context, why is it that Dethadder has different type of icons below his reply?? How do i obtain them and have have tagged together with my posts? To get the medals, you play metaverse games and post the results to the metaverse. I've never read the manual, so I'm not sure if there's anything in there about it, but you will see a Metaverse tab in the list at the top-left of this page. You can go there to create a character to use for p

Thanks, Wyndstar. This was fun! Here's an idea for the next tourney. "Good Gone Wild". You can submit a win by any race, but you have to have chosen "good" alignment. Would it be too obnoxious to have to play good for a month? Another idea: "The Best of the Good". Battle between the good races (wherein you can choose any alignment or maybe any alignment but "neutral" just to promote playing the natural alignment of the race). Altarians, Torians, Drath, Iconians.<br/

I just checked: tiny suicidal game, 9 AIs, cheats enabled. I revealed the map and checked homeworlds with my spy. A half of them had already 2 buildings BUILT, another half had 1 building built and another one in queue. Those with 2 finished buildings had the third building finished after I pressed the Turn button for the first time. To repeat again: they had 3 finished buildings besides starting Civ capital and Starport in the second turn. I had to check anot

Most forums have a voting system set up, so that you can't vote if not registered, and if registered, you can't vote more than once. I'm not sure how that would work on this forum, but I'd guess that Mumble might know (or be able to find out without much trouble). Sorry to suggest more work for you, Mumble, as I'd gladly do it myself were it not that I'm terrible with computers beyond the most basic user interface! It would be nice to have a thread solely dedicated to nominations, eve

Does this mean I still should grab research galactic resources if I'm playing all factories? I thought they only provided a boost to my labs. Yes. I think they just multiply research. For instance, if all you had was the initial colony building, plus a maxed-out research resource, it should multiply whatever research you'd normally be getting. If factories can funnel to research via focus, then you should get that funnelled amount multiplied.<br/

The last three posts are proposing an extreme simplification. As it is, the game does not require excessive micromanagement, but it does allow sufficient flexibility for many varying styles of play. I think the sliders are crucial to that kind of flexibility. Just look at the proposed idea: only 3 sliders: 1) military 2) social 3) research Now, you have to build buildings specific to each slider's production. So if you turn down any slider, you're only affe

Upon reloading a game recently, I've had the AI contact me to issue a threat. They shouldn't be able to do that as its still "my turn". I guess that's related to the bug. They get another chance to conduct diplomacy. i say... does it matter? what harm is a threat going to do you? they were going to issue it on their turn anyway. LostHero, I think the issue is whether the AI would have an extra turn for any diplomacy whatsoever. Most i

Alternatively, Evil Stormbringer suggested getting rid of the sliders all together (or have them frozen at 1/3 each). I actually prefer this approach, but I can already hear people screaming. I can see the rationale behind that, but I would be one of the ones screaming. I've never played all-factories or all-labs, but I do like adjusting the sliders frequently. In DA you've got enough trouble trying to sustain an economy, even with Star Fe

Er...this happens part of the time (possibly ~50%) with Civ Graveyard anomalies regardless of whether you have Creativity or not. Its a great eco-tactic though. When you get that report from your explorers "We're approaching an apparent Civ Graveyard" (i.e. you cursor over the anomaly your surveyor is approaching), your research establishment briefly turns its attention to some of the deep mysteries of...physics, whatever...and requests that the explorers look
