Zman, download Stardock Central or install it from disk (if it comes with it -- I just downloaded the game). Stardock Central will let you update. It's pretty straightforward, so I don't think I need to give a full account of how it will work.

Ah, no, I was actually thinking of transports, without saying so. But those are the fastest ships I ever build. I just can't justify putting more engines than necessary when they're so *#&@ expensive. I almost always put only one engine on any warships, for instance, and almost never more than 2 on constructors. And don't you put as many troop modules on your transports as you can, so long as you can get a decent speed? I'd always go for another troop module over engines any day.<br

Well, my race did have +2 to speed, After I posted, I realized how you got it, i.e. +2 to speed! how do you get the "Racial Victory" medal? It's just from posting wins to the metaverse playing all the races. I actually played a couple I wouldn't have just to get it, because I thought it was the coolest looking of all of them!

DoJ, like I said, it seems like it's been inconsistant for me. Then again, I haven't done a "scientific" study of it. I think there's a thread called "off-type defense bug", or at least searching for that kind of thing should work. People have already done some studying of it, so you don't need to repeat it if you don't want to.

Yeah, they said the off-type defense bug was fixed in the latest build, but others have said that it's not. I've had bad experiences with it (I think) in the latest build (not beta), but I've also had times when it looked like it was fixed. So I don't know what to tell you except maybe switch defenses so that if he's getting the edge with off-type defense, you can as well. That's much faster to research than to change weapons. Good luck!

Commadore 64 with tape drive rules!! Vic20 with a tape drive rules!! Uh, OK, maybe not. But it was my first computer (V20) and my first way of saving/loading (tape drive). Speaking of old arcade games where there was actually something there and not a video screen, I've visited a mountain town in Colorado where they have an enormous old arcade filled with old games (like 3 large buildings' worth!), some of them probably from the early 20t

Why not just take the *!#$%@ planets? Or, just use far less ships to SURROUND the planets. The wall thing still doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

It might be just that the other Yor planets had high populations, whereas the planets you took had very low populations at first. As your populations grew, the influence changed accordingly.

I can do gig/abundant all/9civs on painful, but on average it takes me nearly 20 years hehe... I only wish I could. Computer issues, unfortunately. This last game I actually had a bit of slow-down in a Small galaxy near the end.

Wow, 15 movement for transports in DA? So you had all miniturization techs plus all engine techs plus numerous shrinkers? Or am I just paranoid at this point that I can never get fast ships in DA? My last game had ships top out at 13.

Defense was useful in DL??? Sure it was. Of course it depends on which build you're talking about, but I used it to great effect in DL. More so than in DA. I hope they give defense its due again in DA, and not just off-type, which really sucks! Defense is one way that you can catch up against an opponent who has vastly superior weapons. I've seen the AI do this to me a couple of times, and I've loved it when they did so.

The Iconians will not go down easily. Character: Bastard Race: Iconians Years: 4 Diff: Maso Victory: Military Size: Small Alignment: Neutral Score: 18900 v1.50x3 DA 5/15/2007 Neilo, it's almost creepy how our medals are almost exactly the same!

One level of miniaturization can give you one or two more weapons on a ship. And it's usually the same time to research as one level of weapon. So, I usually go up miniturization instead of weapons, so long as it's about the same time to research. When it's considerably more expensive, it's time to move up the weapons path for awhile. And if you're thinking of defense, then one level of mini can give 2-4 more defense modules. It's certainly worth it. Besides, the Hyperion Shrinker, which c

I just have to ask... has anyone had their head explode yet from all the math? No, but the only reason is that it goes in one ear and out the other . My most advanced math course was in high school, many a moon ago . . .

Here's one from me, not a very successful game as you can see from the score. Congrats on having the guts to go all the way to the end on a defeat. You can learn a lot that way, I've found, but it can be very frustrating as well.

Thanks Talios! Unfortunately, it's listed at $10 more than the other site, but that looks like the standard US price. Oddly, I did a google search to try to find how to download it in the US, and that site didn't come up on the first couple of pages. They need a new strategy.

Just noticed that I can buy it here... Shop Link I just tried it, and apparently you can't download it in the US yet. Must not be officially out here? Oh well, I can wait. Looking at the UFO: ET forum has convinced me to try the game. It looks like 1) people are modding this quite well already, and 2) the devs are working on an official patch. About the Gamespot review, most at the forum thought it was too harsh.
