Hey guys. I just started playing the game again, I only have the basic Dread Lords game. I see some strategies suggesting not to build starports on many planets. I always build a starport on every planet so that my military spending doesn't get "wasted" on these planets (they just spam constructors, I can always use more constructors). Sooo the question is what happens to military spending on planets without a starport? Is it wasted or does it automatically get channeled into research or soci

Ships attack value is increased by the percentage "starship bonus" you get on the planet. Defense remains the same.
Yeah I find that on medium and smaller maps the game is over just after researching planetary invasion. I like games to last a bit longer so I play huge maps mostly.
Econ +4 Pop +2 Morale +2 Soldiering +1 Luck +1 Its nice to have rangers and corvettes falling into your lap every year or so, especially early. I find I get those juicy big evil ethic choices like starship or research bonus more often. All for 1 measly point. The soldiering is another great way to spend a point. The rest funds whatever production/research I need. Federalists or Technologists are the parties I like best for this race. +1 sensor is incredibly useful
I have a beef with the Secret Police HQ. Is it just me, or is this evil "Super Project" trumped by a standard improvement "virtual reality center" that gives 3X the bonus??? Police HQ gives 20% morale, VR center gives 60% morale and you can build multiples. Now if the 20% is empire wide it would make sense, but the description says only on its planet. Also, the propaganda center IS useless, 4 bc maintenence for 10% loyalty... a cultural exchange center is better for counter influence (and U.P.
I like to go with just 1 of my best engines, 1-2 life support, 1-2 defense modules (to counter enemy loadout), load the rest up with weapons your target doesn't have the armor for. Seems to work great. Enhanced Miniturization lets you pack all that and respectable weapons. My very first military units are usually a small ship with an impulse drive and a stinger missile, provides enough deterrant until you can see what weapon/defense techs the ai's are going for then counter. I also like to build
if you edit a race, how do you restore the default bonuses? currently whenever I start a new game it never resets the defaults and I can't find a means to do so.
I just bought this game on payday cuz I heard about it on the civ 4 forums. Well anyway I decided to try the Drengni. They had lots of militaristic bonuses which caught my eye. Anyway I was going to assign the 7 bonus points in the abilities tab when my civ lost all their nice race bonuses and only have 7% logistics. I can't seem to find a restore defaults button or anything of the sort, and I can't recreate their bonuses (25% morale for example) as th
