I could see this in a specific situation- namely, one huge, heavily armed, heavily armored ship with few to no engines versus a planet that's surrounded by 1/0 defenders and can replace them as fast as they're destroyed- AND there's another planet that's preparing to deal with this attacker soon, AND the attacking faction isn't going to send any reinforcements. In that specific situation, yes. Then you wouldn't want a Fleet Manager. But the

Best way I've found has been to build lots of light ships- Missile Boats, Star Furies, Defenders, whatever. Right now I've got my Mayfly design that has two Laser IVs and nothing else. Think it costs me about 55 bc to produce. Since I could produce one every two weeks with my emphasis on research, it didn't take me long at all. Spin Control is Total Majesty, IIRC.
Okay, figured I'd try to learn by presenting where I am, what I've done, and what I'm thinking of doing. Then people can tell me before I get clobbered what should come next. Small map, everything Standard, Scattered stars, Terrans, Arceans, Drengin, Yor, and Thalians (me). For my 3 skill points with the Thalians I picked up Planet Quality and government is Federalists. Game difficulty is set as Easy. Map's divided like a 5-point
If you had allied everyone but the Altarians, get them all to kill the Altarians. Once they (Altarians) die, you win. Tried that. I got a couple people to go against them (Korx, Drengin) but everyone else was simply saying, "Who? We don't know them. We'll face down these two we know, though." Drengin
Okay, simple situation here- I'm new. And I stink at this. Or at least I seem to. First real game with the full version, me as the Yor, everyone else on a Large map except for the Iconians, who somehow didn't get clicked. Guess they didn't want to play along. It didn't take long for everyone to grab all the planets, and things just kinda went downhill from there. Not immediately, mind you, but there just wasn't much chance for me. There was
I remember a game called Master of Magic back in the early 90s. It was a great game. But it was only a great game because it was single-player. The things that made it really neat would have been a disaster in multiplayer. Amusingly enough, Master of Magic is the game that that GalCiv II reminds me
For example, besides stealing a tech every once in a blue moon, your agents manage to thwart the production of an item or perhaps destroy a building or two. Maybe even steal some of those trade goods every once in awhile. Oh heck no- not something I'd like to see. Maybe it just shows that I'm underha
Now I know Humans get more than just Logistics +6%. If that's all they have, you might need to reset 'em to their default.
I've just managed to get advanced espionage on all seven other major races in a game- and I'll say this, it's nice to have when you're dealing with military issues. Being able to see what the computer's building, what weapons and defenses they have on their ships, and so on. Thanks to this, I've been able to enjoy lots of info on what I'll face when I go after an enemy. I do, however, wish that I'd get some techs. Some of these races I've ha
I expect it's more a case of the computer will nix any upgrade that drops you below a certain threshold. Maybe not the -500 mark, but something significant.
That's when I realized it pays off debt by killing production/research - my research and production went to 0. I was gonna be in debt for a looooong time. Oh yeah- no question. I was able to mitigate it by going for the long term option, which means I'll be paying for it over several years. And all
Minor note here on the Iconians- have you made sure that they have alliance tech too? Even if you have it, you have to give it to the other person to get the option. Probably a stupid question, but I figure it can't hurt. I make sure that's one of my first gifts to new races.
Could someone explain what's up with this, please? I've had the game for a couple weeks or so but I can't quite figure this out, since it seems we should be able to build all the starbases we want (and also the comments on this thread make it sound as though we can). Thanks! I think the logic i
Alright- this might be brilliant or this might be really foolish. I just got here. Started my first game last night, just the Yor, the Terrans, and me (Thalans) on the biggest map possible, cakewalk. Yeah, I know- I stink. It was more to get the hang of things than looking for a challenge. In any case, about halfway through the game I get my espionage reports up to advanc
Great- I'll do that tonight.
And that won't affect anything else? Will I need to update files at all? Or will it run fine from there?
Alright- I'm new. I just got the game. I've been toying with the demo for a good while. When playing the demo, I've routinely changed the Terran abilities and colors- just to play with 'em, see how they affect the game. Well now that I can make a custom race, I'd like to restore the Terrans settings back to the way they were. I figure I could probably do this by just uninstalling everything... but I have a few ship designs that I'm rather pr
