I think that the decision of who to attack first is random. If so then defending fleets may or may not be attacked first. Also always attack first! You get the first shot in and the chances of winning are greatly increased. That is why speed is so valuable on combat ships.

The description says that it provides a +50% bonus to research. When I build it, I never notice a sudden decrease in research times. Does it only affect the planet it is built on, or are its effects galaxy-wide?

I have yet to figure out how to create one of those nifty boxes with green text and I find putting quotation marks around quotes uninspiring and dull. Help would be very much appreciated.

If your relations to a race are neutral or lower then telling them to give you stuff (don't offer anything in return) is taken as an "or else" demand, if relations are better than neutral then it is taken as a "polite request".

I agree that the invasion graphics are weak and uninteresting. I usually skip all battles as well, however I don't think it’s enough of a problem to warrant an update.

You can build huge-hulled freighters that are armed to the teeth with the latest weapons and defenses money can buy, however this isn't very cost-effective. What I suggest is to research Master Trade and then build the Galactic Privateer wonder. This makes you trade ships 95% invulnerable and confuses the AI to no end. (It’s funny to see a fleet of ships chasing my freighters all across the map, stupidly attacking without success. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/

Could you maybe just clarify about those frigate and escort ships that I saw the AI has? Does only AI get them? What you are seeing is the AI's custom designs (yes it is smart enough to design its own ships! ) the AI just uses bland generic names. <

Hmmm, I have seen the AI build Spin Control Centers before (rare but it has happened). I think that some races should focus more on diplomacy, listening to Alan Bradley make a complete fool of himself whenever I talk to him gets irritating after a while.

Please look over your post next time to make sure that people can understand what you are saying. Anyway, you should be able to declare war on anyone you are not allied with. To declare war you need to tell one of your ships to attack the target race. If your government is a republic or higher you will need to have a vote before you can attack. If you need to vote make sure your approval rating is at least 60%. Some members of your party will always vote again

I find I can decimate military powers that have a rating twice that of mine! This new formula looks like it could stop those blasted Drath from declaring war on me all the time even though I know I can decimate them. I have fought three-sided wars against the top military powers and have held them off easily with a small number of super-fleets, using superior speed to intercept anything near my borders and decimating their star bases and trade with fast strike fleets. <img src

Is the manual “decent”? Yes However, it does have incorrect information and the game is still extremely complex. I find it best to read the manual and play a few games with a small galaxy size. If you blunder around enough you will figure it out soon enough. Oh, and buy the game too.

I once was lucky enough to get a 700% manufacturing tile on Earth. Sadly, the game crashed before the first auto save. I haven’t seen any other “good” systems yet, although I just started playing on large maps. Also, there is no random event slider, although people have already requested one.

I put engines on all of my freighters. It speeds up the time to get to the destination and usually isn't very expensive. In addition, try filling the extra space up with the most advanced sensors you have. This gives you instant moneymaking spy ships to monitor everyone.

Sorry if I was misunderstood, I never suspected the AI of cheating, it's just that with my opponents at the same intelligence level the Arceans STILL managed to get the best of both the Terrans and the Yor. As I said before the Terrans could only colonize their home system, the Arceans were everywhere! I haven't seen anything like this before and just thought I would bring it up. I still have no idea how the Arceans managed this though... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Ma

I recently played a game on "challenging" with three other races: the Arceans, Terrans and Yor with a large galaxy and medium research level. Anyway, I was testing a custom race I had made and I noticed that as soon as I met the Arceans (around turn 6) they had six planets under their control! They dominated the map soon so that half the galaxy was under their control. They even took colony ships across my territory and colonized on the other side. The Terrans only got the chance to c
