Plato was doing religion then? Religions are control forms based on a supreme authority/entity/power, priests being the arbiters between the divine and the mundane which obviously grants them lots of power in societies where other kind of social structures hasn't been developed yet (except those ones who expand in all the areas of a society so they can have total control of it and perpetuate themselves ad astra).
Your judeo-christian outl

Hoping for some kind of animism too.
Religion is, more often that not, "inspiring philosophies" that are also ways of life. Religion is so much more than the abrahamitic religions and monotheism, or even theism. People really have to stop defining religion as the belief in a supreme diety (or several). Religion, strictly speaking, doesn't e

The only variable would be the random acts of the Gods. Could be good ones(beneficial ones) these should be from your chosen God and the rest are either neutral to you or detrimental.
The problem with that is that religion spreads on its own and you have very little ability to suppress it. You can choose your state religion but that will really cripple you if that choice does not agree with the choice of your population. If religion did not influence the AI's behaviour it would have almost no effect at all (besides bonuses from temples that were already present from previous games that lacked religion).
Y

I must say that although the intro feels "short" somehow, I really like the style. And there's nothing wrong with her voice. As for the Total Annihilation intro, it's OK-ish, but the voice is so.. melodramatic. Reminds me of the terrible, terrible, TERRIBAD narrator in DoW:SS. Edit: Man, I need to repeat how absolutely psyched I am over the artistic style of that intro. I do hope Stardock opts to keep it (the style).
Yeah, they decided that it made the AI behave too randomly and in a non-optimal fashion. Attacking another Civ based only on religious differences may be a "realistic" thing to do historically but it doesn't mesh very well with a good strategy to win the game.
That doesn't mean that the concept of religion in games is flawed, though. The outlook that "starting wars for religion" is flawed - historically, politics dictated reli

On a very serious note, I'd absolutely love if we could keep something reminiscent of what we have going right now, with the obvious changes, since it wouldn't be beta anymore. Something completely retro, with a good MIDI soundtrack. Other than that, I propose something between or mixed between " 1 " and " 2 ". Something that gives a general outline of what's going on, without actually telling you exactly what's going on.
