I have 2Gb RAM and I experience the same lag issue as you do when the fleets are very large and I zoom-in. My CPU is an Opteron (dual core) 165 running at 2.6GHz and I have a 7900GT video card. I agree it seems to be a RAM issue more than CPU. I'm not sure more RAM would improve performance or not in WinXP (which I use).
Beta? Because the game has few a.i. issues? Uh-huh......lol I agree, I hate when people throw that term to describe a game too often. Sins is a very very polished game but not perfect. It is constantly being updated with patches too. Now saying you are paying for beta would have been accurate months ago, sins is still a quality product, more so many titles on the market today.
I hate when people refer to something as "very very polished" and in the very next sentence acknowled

The single player game has great potential but is painfully flawed at this time. Imagine spending hours getting your giant fleet built and your tech raised only to spend the rest of the game chasing around enemy fleets that just refuse to engage you for any reason. It's beyond frustrating and basically just makes you want to quit. The game relies heavily (due to lack of strong defensive units) on massed ships (i.e. A giant fleet) and thus the game devolves into a chase. You won't be ab
Nope. If you want to play to win with 'quality over quantity' then play WC3 with it's incessant hero micromanagement. This is a 4x game. Economy is over half the game. Action gymnastics is typically how 'quality over quantity' occurs. Pfft. I get the sense that all this anti spam whinery is over the fact that capital ships aren't heroes. No, they aren't. Sorry. Ever play Supreme Commander, Total Annihilation? Now go whine that you're being spammed with Tier 1 tanks. geez.
I th

Yes, there is a PDF game manual installed with the game. It is poor... but it's there. I'd love to see a real attempt at creating a useful manual, perhaps with the excellent sales Stardock can hire someone to do so! :) I don't think learning a game by trial and error is fun and I think there would be much less clamor in the forums on a whole host of issues if the manual was more (much more) detailed about how the game is played. Just look at the section in the manual

I'm more than a little confused about the in-game "map designer" to create "custom maps." When I chose the "save" option and create a "map" it never looks the same in the "preview" option. Does this mean that the "custom map" is really not a custom map at all but rather just a set of rules for creating a random map? If that's not the case how do you view and edit this "custom map?" I would like to be able to preview maps to make sure starting locations and phase jump lanes are
