I agree with much of this but think that with the changes in 1.2 this will all change. I play on suicide and usually the troop transports have an excort and if you do not have a better ship you will probably lose your interceptors quickly. The strategy will still work but it will be less effective. I think the best approach I have is my space is a no-fly zone. I attack as best as possible on one side. That way nothing but freighters are in my zone. Just before a war happens or when one does I lo

I think it is a matter of style but I find using my money at the beginning to buy factories while on 100% research to get faster ships then using the first planet as a manufacturing capital to start pumping out the colonies. LAter build troops transport and transport the extra pop to the other planets. If you do not win the colony grab it is always difficult to win the game. Make your next big planet a money maker and the one after a research cap. Then split any other colonies as you decide you

I use them to transport at the beginning. Load them up at your biggest colony then send them to a planet with almost noone on it and then send them out with 1 unit and back and forth. Later I upgrade them to transports and do the same thing unless I need the people to land on an enemy.

I never thought to try this. I think I will make a different race now. I was using custom only but did not need the extra soldier ability. I thought the basic races had to be played as is. THis makes me wonder what my next race will be. I mean picture Drath with full military bonus pumping out ships with 50 % defense. Not to mention using the diplomacy to get the best weapons from the other races. Wow! to much to consider now. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I have tried to complete suicide on gigantic galaxy 3 times but have had it crash everytime near the end of the game. The problem is I share the computer and others need to use it to pay bills and such. They hit alt-tab to go to the main screen and then when finished they hit the gal civ shortcut. I am using a msi 6600gt video card on an amd 3000 machine. I have had no other problems. I did notice this time that the game does autosave. So I have 2 points. First in a future patch can this be fixe

I have played on suicide and would win if I ever get to finish (someone in my house keeps switching by alt tab and the game crashes). I did it with gigantic galaxies which is why it takes a while to finish. I play neutral and do trade with everyone. It also has the benefit of opening all the planet tiles (do not need terraforming). I did not spend to buy any ships early but built up the first planet then colonized. At the start I only had 10 planets and the game ai had 18 or more. By researching

I have recently started playing on suicide and will finish my first suicide metaverse game soon. I am hoping it gets a huge score boost. I have found that from painful to suicide is a huge difference. I do not think that a lower level game no matter what the size and no matter what the situation should score higher then a higher level game. THe ai is way more effective when you move up. Let's compare to real life. It is like completing math questions. I could easily do 10,000 grade 3 questions b

Just remember that the game has many ways to play. Most people agree that tech victory is too easy so you may want to disable that as you improve. Basically get a feel for diplomacy and finance as these are crucial in the game. With an excellent diplomacy ability (research the diplomacy areas) you can trade for many techs and then trade the techs for cash. My recommendation is to start a game at an easy level and then work your way up. At the beginning if you

I play suicide and huge galaxies now and have switched to max econ and pop 4 for econ and 6 for pop. Since people are the key to money and money is the key to the game then this works good. 30% econ bonus combined with 70% growth allows me to keep up with the game at suicide level. Any other bonuses are situation specific or can be research. examples: The speed can be researched. social, research, military are only good if you are using that field. I mean

I have recently tried suicide and I like the challenge. I play Huge galaxy and have a newborn so it takes days to complete a game. If the tile building option gets added to a fix (set a planet to build itself , factory based, research based, population based, economy based.....) then it will take less time. I had all the winning conditions there but I am still going to try to conquest (looks good so far). In the future I will turn off all but conquest. my next game: Huge galaxy su

I won on Painful and now try suicide. I also increased the size of the galaxy to huge. Looks like I may win but itis still a close call. I also only go for conquest as tech victory is too easy. Although I am in a stand still and may have to switch to win by alliance in my current game. The game is not too easy. If the setting you have is too easy go up and believe me the ai seems to work alot better. On painful I attacked someone who was friends (but not allied) with someone else and nothing hap

Two things will help. Money and transport ships. Money to buy the factories or whatever you want is very good. The transports are great as you can fill up the new planet. Run a few transports to your over populated colonies then send them to the new one. THe way to increase your colony is send them back out with only 1 person. There should be an option to send them with nobody but that would be a suggestion for a future patch.

I think it depends on galaxy size. When you have a larger galaxy having one big producer is not enough. On a medium galaxy you can rely on one. Lately I have been playing huge galaxies and I find that I have to mix the number of factories to get the most out of each planet. Generally I have a couple of production planets. They have a farm or 2, social, capitol, and the rest industry. The ship build techs are great and all but I would rather have the extra production.

Before I make suggestions just like to point out only playing for a little while so many of these may be already there. HOw about an auto-build feature for the planet. Example: click auto-build and it builds it based on the style you want the planet - industry for example gives 1 farm, 1 morale and the rest factories, so on for other types research farm, morale and research buildings, economy, culture... In the tech section it does not show how many points future techs are.

SOrry about the late reply. I build the huge ships with zero point armor and disruptors, 30 attack and 140 defence. It was later in the game in a medium map. Remember, later in a game it is not difficult to focus on a few techs and research them all the way through. I usually play diplomatic for most of the game. Then research alot and build huge ships. Then research the tech and after wiping out a weak race or two upgrade the old huge ships to the new powerful ships. If you build big defense sh

It is true that economy and diplomacy are too important. Every time I am struggling with a game I just go to all the different races and with the high diplomacy rate I can buy a tech they have and then use it to trade for many other techs and the end result is that I always own all the tech everyone else has. There needs to be a little more balance. I used to try trade but now I do not even bother as when I go to war the ships are blown up and I usually do not need the extra cash.

THe truth is that this is one of the reasons why players are better then the ai. I almost never use cultural improvements unless I have a tile that gets a bonus for it. The game uses way to many. Picture how deadly they would be if they had factories or research there instead. I understand using them on the outside of your area of control but they have them on almost every planet. They place more in other peoples areas and that is understandable but your home planet and it's close planets. I agr

I have found that the size of the ship matters. On a very large ship you should try to focus on defense but on a small one offense. Here is the rationale: the bigger one has more hit points and if you can give it a good defense it can hang around for more rounds. I have used a single big ship with the wrong defense type to take out 11 small ships. The small ships had a defense between 4-11 and attack between 11-30. My big ship had attack 32 and armor 140. The square of 140 is over 1

Just wondering if it relates to verification. I am sure that people will eventually pass the game around. Have to login means you have to have an access code. People might be able to download the game on p2p but they will not be able to upgrade or patch it.

I have gone for the defense approach. I find that the ai usually picks one type of weapon attack, beam or mass so I get the armor and stack the heck out of it. The sub zero armor for example is only 4 or 5 space and gives 10 d. They cannot hit my huge ships which each have over 100 defence and then the 30 offense will make them quite deadly. My huge destroyers in my last game had 140 defence each. I would use 1 to take out huge stacks of the enemy. Big defence ships is my style but I know most p

First, the best part about the game is the ability to adapt it. If you find that a tech victory is too easy then eliminate it as an option or change the tech rate or play at a harder setting and see if the ai does not adjust. Remember, you can adjust this. It is not a fault in the game. You can set the research to to faster to make it more possible or slower to make it less likely, the best thing is you decide what the conditions are and that is why this game rocks.

One thing to consider with this game is the neutral character bonus. Why would you research terraforming when all tiles are useable when you are neutral. That is why I play neutral. However, that being said it is very limited how much you can grow a planet. It means that at the begining of the game you have no choice but to play expansion style builder. If you could build up planets better then you could get a few then just build them. It would allow more options.
