My biggest gripe with Civ III and IV is it's so SLOOOOOOOOOW. I play on Marathon level and with 1200 turns and it still goes by too fast. Obviously a turn based epic type game isn't for you. Alot of people like that sort of thing though. And Rise of Nations is basically a RTS version of Civ, that's all. Not even close, the two are vastly different from each other.

I too would recommend the game. I've played all versions of Civ and this is by far the best one. I felt the same way about Civ 3 that you did but that all changed once I started playing with version 4. It's much better than it's predecessor.

I'm not sure about DirectX 10 cards at this time. Some people say it will still be a few years before you need it, others say sooner than that. There's at least 3 DX10 titles I've read about that will be out this Christmas, though I don't know the names of them right now. And judging by what I've been reading of the capabilities that DX10 provides, most game companies will be jumping at the chance to use them. So it's going to be alot less than a few yea

If you've added the patch, you can activate it through email. Just follow the instructions the game gives you to do this, submit the text message that comes up and Stardock will email you a file you can place in your folder to make it work. You'll probably be able to do all this through the same cafe you got the patch from. With the exception of adding the file to your folder of course.

Looks like an awesome update, but I'm not seeing mention of the off-type defense bug. Was that resolved? That was supposedly resolved in Beta 1.

I mentioned i got the information from Hollywood specifically because of the reason you give - so i don't know why your repeating my own remarks back to me as if i made a mistake? If you were attempting to be sarcastic with your Hollywood references, you failed miserably.

Belanos, my man, go easy on the replies... 3 in a row in 10 minutes? You can just put into one, or edit one. That's how I respond to forum posts, sequentially. When you get to be a moderator you'll have the right to comment on my methods. Besides, this forum doesn't give you 10 minutes to edit a post, you lose that option in a fairly short period.

Boy people sure are getting lazy these days. If you're in the Forum section you're only one click away from the sub-forums where they actually have the posts you want. I never even bother with the Recent Posts myself, I usually click on the GalCiv 2 link which brings up only the latest game posts. Maybe you could try exercising that mouse finger a bit more and going in one more level instead of complaining about something so trivial. Not to mention the fact that what you're doing is trying to su

This new planet likely rotates slower than Earth, too. It's proximity with its parent star might make it tidally locked -- like the moon is with Earth. Why would you presume that? As far as I know, proximity has no bearing on speed on rotation. It could be spinning around like crazy for all we know. Radius and mass. According to the BBC article, the mass is 5x Earth's and the radius is 1.5x Earth's. Calculating its gra

okay, this is one hair i have to split. the only thing that affects gravity is mass. wrong, distances and size also have a big part. A+ for effort, but you remain an ignorant fish. Um, size is only determined by the total amount of mass. And distance is only determined by the size. Sorry, but you are the one who remains the ignorant fish. Geez people, did anyone take physics in high school? I didn't even

We suffer a littlie thing called space-time condencing, if a planet is under pressure the time slows down and a planet with no gravity we whould age 2 times faster. Technecally if you where able to survive on the sun you would be getting younger insted of older. Another person that needs a physics refresher. The only thing that affects time is the speed that we are travelling. The faster you go, the slower time progresses. However it's strictl

Nitrogen only becomes a problem once you start the decompression process No - What you refer to is comonly known as 'the benz' is a different problem to the one i'm talking about. Apparantly, going by the movie, Nitrogen also affects the brain at high pressures. For God's sake man, you should really know what you're talking about before you spout off and look the fool. The "Bends" is just the slang word for wh

The gravity is just under 3 times that of Earth Nope, the gravity would depend more on the rotation speed than the planet sieze. It is quite possible to live on a planet 5 times the seize of Earth and have half the gravity! I'd suggest you get a refresher course in physics. Gravity has a direct relationship with mass, and nothing at all to do with rotation speed. All mass has gravity, and the more of

If I remember correctly, it may have to be classified as "Aquatic" though. They don't even know if it actually has water, only that it's orbiting at a distance where liquid water would be possible. It could very well be just a barren piece of rock.

then we got broadband and when i opened my game it said i had to join metaverse to continue playing, That is sheer crap, I've never been forced to join metaverse in order to play the game. I'm not interested in that whole area, and there's never been any move to make me take part, it's strictly a voluntary thing. Something is not adding up with what you're describing here.

A comparable AMD system might be slightly cheaper but they run hotter than Intel processors, which can lead to faster, louder fans and all many othe minor nuisances. Don't listen to him, I'm running an AMD 3800 and it's as quiet as can be. Thanks to a quiet video card fan as well, I can barely hear the computer running sometimes. And they're quite a bit cheaper than Intel. 2) Any midrange card ($150-200) would be good

Now heres something I don't get, I have colonized 3 PQ1 worlds and each of them is giving me messages that the people are looking to an AI who seem better. (or whatever the message says) I get the skull and crossbones but the planets approval is like 90-100%. One of these worlds actually did flip to the Torians. (they WILL pay....). Approval rating has little bearing on whether a planet is going to flip or not, it's due to the ratio for cultural ou

So what you're saying is, with the inital colony (which they all have) and three factories (advanced, enhanced, +++) it IS better to get a fusion generatior and then of course upgrade with each new tech? And having mined asteroids just adds to the benefits of the fusion generator. It sounds to me like you don't have the latest patch installed. Fusion plants have been reduced to 10% bonus, and the maximum with all upgrades is now 25%, I think, not 100%. S

I cannot understand the reasoning behind building it first, The AI isn't exactly that intelligent when it comes to developing planets. Keep playing for awhile and you'll see it do a number of stupid things. If i built 10 factories on one planet, my 11th production building would be a fusion or higher level, You actually only need 9 factories to really make a Fusion Plant count, don't forget that the Ini

If we have a democrat, it tends to be more peaceful, but things always go wrong under their leadership. Let's see. Eight years under Clinton brought sustained prosperity and budget surpluses year after year, and there were no international incidents to speak of. The rest of the world thought favourably of the US for the most part and the American administration had no problems getting along with other foreign agencies. Yes, that all indicates

Well Fusion reactors do upgrade eventually though they themselves might be underrated. However, they do come in handy on a planet that is being fed by some asteroid fields. You're increasing the yield from them by 10%, which is not bad really.

I found an odd bug whereby the texture of ships goes transparent, leaving you unable to find or see your ships on the map. Specifically, when you send a ship into a square with another ship in it, and the ships are not in a fleet yet, sometimes the resultant image on the map is blank. See Before and After screen shot for easier clarification. I guess that has to do with their new way of stacking ships/fleets, it seems there's still a few is

Mind you I'm playing DL not DA, so I'm not sure how this applies. Sorry, but this is a completely different situation than what you're used to. The Pirate mega event in DA is alot more drastic than the regular one that you're refering to. Any approach you might have for the regular pirate event is not necessarily going to be meaningful with the mega event.
