I might be wrong, but it seems like there is a fairly simple solution. Let me name things and store that locally. Then, if I tell you to meet me at "my main town", you don't see "my main town", the computer send the co-ordinates. When you get the the message, it checks on your computer to see if you have named it something. Then, you either see the name YOU hve given that location, or the co-ordinates. I know that is possible, but not sure how

I had the same problem. I'd been playing GCII for a while and bought a new tv/monitor (26" HD, yea) and when I hooked up the monitor I got PC stuff but a black screen when I opened GCII. I knew the game worked, so I figured it had to be something to do with the monitor/tv. I changed the prefs.ini file and now I have a lots larger view. One note, open the prefs.ini file with notepad on a windows machine, not a full feature

I've been around a long time. I started with norton AVB and liked it, until it got to be such a resource hog. Then I switched to McAffee and ran into the same problem. Then I got Panda. It might not cathc quite as many as the best, but by the same token, it didn't slow my system down to a crawl. I'm now shopping for another suite. I am still happy with the Panda product, but I do really hate it when a company decides

There are no poor people being thrown out on the street to die because they don't have health insurance. The hospital eats the bill and the government cuts them a check on a regular basis to make up the costs and keep them operating in the black. They go to jail for refusi

Let's face it. The digital download has the same rights as the retail box, at least for Stardock. You can download the install file and set it up on a computer without an internet connection (at least for Gal Civ, not sure about other titles). And you can even have the patches update if you are comfoprtable with whoever you sell it to knowing your email and password. As a long time

In reply to the comments From Marvin Kosh [I]Personally I'm not sure that using N (the number of technologies researched) is such a good idea. It's quite possible to reach that number early on in the game by researching some of the cheaper technologies. If instead the cost of researching began to grow after accumulating a certain number of research points then you wouldn't be penalised for obtaining technologies that, for example, don't un

From what I've read in the tech forum, the tech formula was the # of techs researched > N then cost = cost X Z I think most of the complaints about this arose from the sudden increase in tech cost when N was reached. I've been thinking about this a lot LOL. Ever get an idea in your head that just won't let go? I like the idea that tech costs increase over time due to the increase in research. I just didn't like the sudden jump. This is what

You are lucky. I used to have RR, but they moved out of Houston and now I have Comcast. Typical service call goes like this. On hold for 20 minutes after going through their voice mail system. Then you get a script kiddie. They know absolutely nothing about the service but they DO have a list of troubleshooting tips. The first thing they want you to do is to disconnect everything. For me that is a router and three computers. Never mind that everything was working fine until it j

A small problem I found. A resource starbase was damaged and I attempted to repair it. No go. The problem seems to be when you have a fully loaded starbase, ie no modules available, the game will not let you repair it. however, if you have a regular module available, you can repair it just fine. Save game available if needed.

The computer does research alliances with tech trading off, but it is not a high priority. If you play long enough, eventually it becomes an option. Of course, by the time it does, you may have conquered them already. It is my understanding that the computer can't win a diplomatic victory.

I've been around a while and find the Vista debate old hat. I started with CPM (anyone remember that?), and have upgraded over the years. My philosophy has been to wait on new MS operating systems until they have been out a while. Since NT that has meant waiting on the first service pack. Since Vista has just released SP1, I wonder how many of the complaints will be addressed. I'm currently running XP and plan to continue to do so until I buy a new computer. THEN I'll get Vista. BTW, don'

Help.. For some reason I'm not seeing the beta 6 update. I've tried both US1 and 2. I've also deleted TotA and reinstalled but it is still showing the 2-29 package. How do I check to see if I have the newest beta? And if I don't, any suggestions I can try out.

One thing that happens to me is nonautomatic mining ships not starting to mine when I actually send them to the asteroid field. They will just park on the field and not start to mine. I get around it by stopping just short of the fields and then manually moving the ship. Works fine if I remember to check them. But I do tend to forget to do that. Would it be difficult to fix this? <img src="ht

"Never sell/trade a 'trade good' to anyone." They are too valuable. Your friends now, will be your enemies later In my current game it has gotten down to 3 races. I'm allied with the other against the Korath. I gave the repair trade good to my ally so they could help out more. In this game, never say never. But as a general rule you are right.

I was having constant crashes, but have gotten it down quite a bit. I have a HP computer. I discovered that HP has a little program running that periodically checked for hardware and software updates from HP. This program didn't show up in the system tray or task manager as a program. It runs as a process. I only found it when I started digging through msconfig. I disabled it and cut down on my crashes about 90%. As a bonus, my computer seems to run a little faster too :). My AV (Panda)

As a long time computer user and a beta tester, I appreciate the problems with adding so much so fast. Right now I've decided that the best approach for me is to play each of the new races and not to worry about the glitches. That way, when they finally relese the final, maybe I won't embarass myself. Take your time. Right now there is so much that is new that I am having a good time discovering the duhs, as in duh, why didn't I do that LOL. <a href="https://www.stardock.com/product

Well, not quite black. Right now working like a champ except (LOL) when I quit the game the computer reboots. I play on my best machine but that is the one I use for work too. So, I have a lot of stuff running. Anybody else having this happen to them or is it just me?

One thing I would like to see is a change in the research slider where a click would decrease the research time by a turn. This would automatically decrease mil and social spending. Then you could adjust as liked.
