Is there any way on the starbases to know which modules remain available to be built and what they do (without sending a constructor) that I was ignorant about?
No, sorry. You'll just have to learn the tech trees. Some of the modules are easy to find, having their own branches, but some are sprinkled here and there, and not so easy to find. The easiest way I can think of to learn all of these is to download the "Galactopedia". It is a small, stand-alone program

Hello, Agcsy. The pre made ships get a little bump to help the beginning player. Miniaturization is your friend. The smaller things are, the more of them you can put on your ship. Research farther up the tech tree. You will never be able to put enough LaserI's on a huge hull to make it competitive. Big weapons on a small hull are better than small weapons on a huge hull. It's not the size of your hull, it's how you use it. ;)

These settings aren't defaulted because they are specific to your chipset. Thanks for posting, though. I'm sure any users of the Intel integrated chipset that are having this problem will be glad to know that there is a solution. :)
greedy executives at companies like EA and Hanbitsoft didn't give them the time or money to properly develop the game Hellgate London.
You don't know what you're talking about. EA had nothing to do with this, and Hanbitsoft was trying to give them money. Evidently it is preferable to destroy a company and throw everyone into unemployment rather than implement any type of constructive suggestions as to how to turn around a broken franchise.
simply fly another constructor into the starbase and choose what it's going to be as a module
Yes, and no. Yes, because this is what it takes to add a module; no, because you can't just choose which module to install. You first have to research the tech that unlocks that module. Some of them are easy to find. There are offensive and defensive modules that have their own branches in the tech trees. Some (the most useful ones IMO) are less obvious. If you want to get more o
I still don't know how to make a screenshot
Press "ctrl and Prt-Scrn". This will save a copy of the image to your "screenshots" folder. If you want to post it in a thread here, you will have to use a third-party. The most commonly used is ImageShack. For easy to use instructions on how to do this, read this post by Drengin: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/109676"]WWW Link[/link]
O'Brian is pretty good, but have you read the Horatio Hornblower series?
"It was Sunday morning. The Renown had caught the north-east trades and was plunging across the Atlantic at her best speed, with studding sails set on both sides, the roaring trades driving her along with a steady pitch and heave, her bluff bows now and then rising a smother of spray that supported momentary rainbows. The rigging was piping loud and clear, the treble and the tenor to the baritone and

If the game is playing for you now, then don't worry about it. This alert is probably a generic thing that doesn't apply to you. You will at some point want to update the game, probably sooner rather than later. Don't worry, there is a way to do it without having internet access. (at home) If you would like to know how, reply back and I'll talk you through it. Good luck.
you shouldn't be able to research from a 'licensed' technology - the receiving civ doesn't actually *understand* it, they just buy them wholesale. That doesn't mean they can't learn how it works later
I think I understand what you are saying now. I can buy a 'license' for any tech from you, and use it right away, but it doesn't show as being researched in the tech tree. I can't sell it, and can't use it as a steppingstone to the next tech in line. The game woul

I can't say if I have one favorite; there are just so many good authors. If I had to pick one, I'd pick Patrick O'Brien. His Aubrey/Maturin series is superb. They are set on British naval vessels during the Napoleonic wars. They are the most completely immersive books that I have ever read.

Very clever, Jonnan001. There is just one thing I don't care for:
can't develop other technologies from it
This would cut off any of the branches of the tech tree as soon as any tech were traded for, and would effectively end trading altogether for most players. While I'm here, I'll add my support to the idea of 'no tech brokering'. It will keep the unique flavor of the different races, while still allowing trading. <

Kryo's just doing his job. He's keeping things civil by heading off trouble before it starts, and that post had trouble written all over it. I sympathize with your position, but these forums are not the place for this type of discussion. Things start out civilly enough, but they always degenerate into something much less pleasant. Take yourself, for example. You have already resorted to name-calling, and to someone who certainly doesn't deserve it. There are other places wher

I generally avoid it, as I share Mumble's view on interest. I can indeed be useful in certain situations. Namely, getting one of the 'one per galaxy' type items. It's very satisfying finding out that the AI is about to finish one, and then swooping in and taking it out from under it's nose. :)

What you have experienced is the "Jagged Knife" mega-event. The Pirates! spawn with swarms of overpowered ships, that can/will destroy all of your fleets and starbases, but pose no risk whatsoever to your planets. Look at this event as an opportunity. The JK has taken any number of sweet planets from the other civs, and now you are free to take them for yourself without declaring war on any of the majors. If you play this right, you'll win the game. Lemons into lemonade, brot

I use FF3, and IMO, it's the best browser out there now. I have a widescreen monitor, so I especially like the page zoom function. It even zooms images, and very cleanly also. It does have it's little annoyances, but these are usually easy to fix. I just discovered another one. If you hate the "Downloads Complete" alert as much as I do, there is a way to stop it via a hidden setting. Type "about:config" into the location bar. Scroll down to "browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete", and set

Hello, Lukas. I am sorry that you are having a problem with the game. I am puzzled though. If you can run DL and DA at an acceptable level, then TA should run even better. The problem is, you don't give enough information for us to begin to diagnose your problem. Could you tell us a bit more info about your system specs? Better yet, open your debug.err file in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot

This will give you the 'best of both worlds', as it were.
But, lets hope that it doesn't crash the game. So, if I would use "Max AI CPU" I would be careful if I have a 2x1.83 GHz.
I have a *single core* AMD 3200+ Barton. This is a very good processor, but hardly cutting edge. I have used the 'Max AI' option since it was made available, and have never experienced any slowdown, or any other problem for that matter. I am truly sorry that you are having issues, but I assure you that they are being caused by something a

Please download and install SmartException. It is a free program and will provide the address of exactly where in the code the game crashed. This would help a lot. You can get the program in Stardock Central's Free Stuff section. Once you install it just run it and then play the game. If it crashes, it will generate a report. Send the report to [email protected]. If you have a saved game that reproduces the crash, please zip it and send it in too.
