I may have to start visiting my local chapter of GC Anonymous. :)
The ring defines the maximum AoE, not the effective AoE.
Nice to know. Thanks. Like I said, influence isn't my strong suit. :)
The area of effect for influence bases is not what the ring indicates.
Sorry, pardner, but this only applies for influence *resourse* starbases.
Just spreading the love. ;)
You shouldn't be overly concerned about the random events. Most of them are temporary. There is only one that I can think of that you should really pay attention to ASAP. I'm not going to tell you what it is, because you should have the satisfaction of finding it out for yourself; but if you get it and solve it, you have the fast track to winning your game. The megas are another matter. They are meant to be unbalancing. You will know right away that action is needed. It could be the P
Yes, this is the only way to 'reshuffle the deck'. Keep in mind though, that everything else will be changed: bonus tiles, anomalies, asteroids, and resources. The most important thing that you should be aware of is the proclivity of the game to reset the intelligence of your opponents when using ctrl-n. You can set up all of the other races as geniuses, but if you ctrl-n just one too many times, you'll end up with the galactic version of Crawford, Tx.
How do I get rid of that drop-down from the address bar? I can't find any option for disabling it, or even clearing it out.

Try this.
Thanks, Kryo, but that wasn't quite what I was looking for. I am going to leave it installed though, because I much prefer the old look to the new one. After a bit of searching, I found an add-on that does the job. It's called "Hide Unvisited". It basically restores the functionality of FF2; in other words,
TA will make one of its own it you click the Default button in the mod folder picker.
I did not know that. (obviously) lol Thanks again for the work you have put in on this. I'm already thinking about what I am going to do with the new parts.
Thanks, Kryo. I've been waiting for this. One small thing though. The readme is incorrect. The mods folder is in GalCiv2, not in TA. I like what you have added to it. It will make for some very interesting combinations.
Used it, and it worked great. Cleared up a surprising amount of clutter from my hard drive. As Wizard1956 stated, it doesn't go too deep into the registry, but I don't necessarily want it to, either. No problems whatsoever. I would recommend.
Happy hunting though Lup, I admire your dedication
Ditto. I'm embarking on my own quest, or I'd join you in the hunt. I'll definitely follow this thread though, to see what you have found out.
Is there a way to know the right placement?
Click on any starbase, and you will see the area of effect.
For fun summertime reading, I am a big fan of historical naval fiction. The basic premise is the same as your space operas (putting a fast ship in harm's way), but the writing tends to be a bit more polished. I cut my teeth on the Horatio Hornblower series by C.S. Forester, as well as Alexander Kent, but the real gem of the genre is Patrick O'Brien. His Aubrey-Maturin series provided some of the most enjoyable reading of my life. I won't go into detail about it, for brevity's sake, but
A couple more points:
My plan is to build several in several of my "Allies" main systems.
I have never attempted this, but the AI won't allow you to build influence starbases in it's space, not even an ally, so I doubt it will allow you to build a terror star either. Could someone please post back and confirm or deny this for me? My advise, from what I believe to be true is to build them just outside of your target's area of influence, and move them into position
Very interesting, Loup. Those numbers seem a bit high to me, especially at the top. What size galaxy were you playing. I usually play at med or smaller, so I wonder if this scales up with galaxy size. I tend to find a fair amount of espionage anomalies, so this may be why I seem to be noticing this. I'm also interested in the effect the bonuses have on these numbers. AFAIK, no one has confirmed that these actually speed things up.
Thanks, Island Dog. I've been looking for something like this, and was having a little trouble making up my mind on which one to choose. I'll give this one a try.
Meh. A dual core laptop with decent integrated graphics for 3 grand? Pass. AMD/ATI are working on a solution that will leave this thing in the dust, and at a better pricepoint. Facial recognition software for video indexing. Hmm. I suppose this could be useful if you are looking for the exact moment that the drummer makes a funny face, but otherwise, the slider is still a better idea. Gestures may have some small use in certain situations. Say you're in a business or advertis
I have a 3200+ Barton, and I don't have any unreasonable slowdowns. Sure, it can take a couple of minutes to process, but that's not too bad. It's important to close any background applications; even a virus scanner can slow things down considerably. I also shut down any unnecessary Windows processes and services.
Preach on, brother. I upgraded when it was released, and am pleased as punch. One question though; How do I get rid of that drop-down from the address bar? I can't find any option for disabling it, or even clearing it out.
Obviously you and I play different strategies of gaming as I can not think of any instances where my economy was robust enough to be bringing in that much cash. LOL.
I play the game for fun, and employ any number of strategies. When I play as a capitalistic type in the larger/more common galaxies, I can bring in 10k bc per turn with one arm tied behind my back, so to speak. 50k bc is a lofty goal, but is certainly attainable. Mumblefratz routinely brings in 50k a turn in
Hello atlas7d. First bing up the image of the ship. Then, hit "ctrl and Prt-Scrn. This will save a copy of the image to your "screenshots" folder. If you want to post it in a thread here, you will have to use a third-party. The most commonly used is ImageShack. For easy to use instructions on how to do this, read this post by Drengin: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/109676"]WWW Link[/link] Good luck.
If you are using SDC, you may need to refresh your xml data. You can do this by opening SDC, then go to Tools/Settings/Internet, and click "refresh xml data". You should be good after that.
What version are you playing? Up through 1.91 there was an incorrect research cost penalty modifier. As you (or the AI) made your way up the tree, the research costs would balloon to an unreasonable rate. The AI was never able to compensate for this. In the games that I have played, I noticed that as long as the galaxy was at peace, the AI(s) tended not to focus too much on military. If this went on long enough for the tech costs to increase, then by the time they got around to researc
Mumble, for what it's worth, I'm with you on this one. I resent the fact that I am being forced to install a large and intrusive program just to do one single function (update) for one single program. At this point I have to say that I support the idea of Impulse. I think that it is a good idea that will be good for Stardock, and probably for the gaming industry as a whole. But it's not good for ME. There is no feature in there that I would ever use. I'm not the chatty type, I don't bl
That would be my advise as well- to uninstall and then re-install the drive. I had something very similar happen to my second hard drive, and this cleared it up. WD has a nice little tool for checking the health of it's drives. I forget the name at the moment (at work), but you can find it on their site.
