Trek 2009 had no sound in space too for a moment in the Kelvin battle scene when people got sucked out into space they were screaming until the got out in vacuum. Then "silence". There were a few silent phaser blasts in that scene too. So that was a nice compromise. The only reason there is "sound in space" at all in these movies is because they would be "uninteresting" otherwise. People associate everything with sound. You see a big explosion you expect to hear a big BOOM. Eve online
Major Stress
Yes good bet we will have to update our mods for 1.5, and the DLC. SoA 2 wont add anything that requires the DLC, but we need to make sure it will work for the people that do have it. TSOP will more than likely have to be updated too.
Ill see what i can do about the SoA 2 masters. I can tell you most of the trekmods stuff is at max res. But my ships i should have masters that are double the res. Cant help you with the 3rd party stuff. I got those as is. When i imported the models i kept the original resolutions. Most of the stuff basically needs to be re-textured from scratch. Just haven't had any free time, or motivation to get off my ass and do it. You will share this with me at least right ;) [e digicons]}:)
Eliminating waste is at the very heart of TSOP. Let me know when you finish this. I will incorporate it all in the next build. I wonder how hard it would be to pass this optimized UI down to Trinity.
(facepalm) Why would they use 3 separate wasteful sheets, when one 100% filled is so much better? I understand Ironclad being as Sins was their first game. But the game is 5 years old now. There is so much we learned... Why?
I grew up with TOS being the only Trek for years before the first movies started being released. I personally was disappointed with the first trek film, because it was essentially a re-hashed episode of the "changeling" put on the big screen. I enjoyed WOK though i questioned why they would use Khan. An obscure villain from an even more obscure tv episode. Regardless it worked very well. WOK is considered by many to be the best of the TOS movies. The rest of the films up to TUC were mediocre
Most of the mods with "dynamic ship movement" have proven that it wouldn't have a big impact on the game performance wise. So i cant see why not. It would be interesting to see.
So if we leave the vanilla rebellion ship textures alone these UI changes will save a S**T Ton of memory, because we will be using fewer UI textures correct? Something i noticed. The 1.5 patch changed the planets to spherical UV mapping (something ive been pushing for all this time, and did with limited success in early versions of TSOP). However they kept the same 2048 resolution. Effectively doubling the resolution of the planet textures without changing the memory usage. The origin
Using Elites only with any faction (except for the Borg) is a bad idea. Unless you want the "go big, or go home" achievement. In that case play vanilla sins, because in SoA 2 you will get your ass handed to you on a silver platter ;)
The superweapons were limited only to your economy, and tactical cap in Original Sins, and Entrenchment. They were Restricted/Nerfed/Tweaked for Diplomacy, and Rebellion. Now people want yet ANOTHER NERF, or to eliminate them all together. I am for the option to chose whether to use, or disable them. Like the Pirates. It seems to be the only happy medium here.
There are some small UI textures that you can probably use to fill the 1024 of wasted space, and eliminate those little textures altogether. The way i see it. The less files it loads the better. You are doing what i have always wanted to do with the UI, but didnt know crap about how to edit the brush grid coordinates. I asked ironclad if they had templates we could use, but got no response. This is great! When you are done send me what you got so we can incorporate this stuff
Outstanding.
How much memory does a single combined sheet save vs the original configuration with multiple sheets? I wanted to combine the unit build, cursor over, pressed, and disabled sheets into one texture (very similar to what you did to the SoA 2 UI Fist0)
It will more than likely die horribly. So i am with Psychoak on this one. Nothing gets put in that requires the DLC.
Are there any Titans in Star Trek? Are you playing Star Trek? or Sins Rebellion? The answer is No. No Titans. No "Uberships". The Borg are OP by design. You need to make allies to defeat them. Otherwise nobody would use the Diplomacy features. We got the ship lineups covered. What we really do need are appropriate structures to replace the remaining vanilla sins structures like the extractors, refinery's, culture centers etc. Is Anyone up to the task? If so contact Psychoak.
I'm trying to figure out how i used to be all action, and no talk in the modding community. Only to be all talk and NO action now. :/ Plus conspiring to take over the world, but if you read the first line it more than likely won't happen :p
This is gonna make things interesting.....
Quoting Major Stress, reply 17When SoA 2 was in its early days ModDB posted a scathing video review of it. The actual website or its user base? Seems an odd thing for a site that makes money by hosting mods to insult any of them.
It was the actual website in a mod of the year video review. This was back when the mod was first released for Original Sins back in 2008. They said it was just a "Star Trek skin o
I can understand Iskatumesks point of view about ModDB. When SoA 2 was in its early days ModDB posted a scathing video review of it. With some pretty insulting comments. At the time, and it somewhat still is a Half Life 2 elitist website. And from their point of view your mods are total crap if you don't know how to program in all programming languages. Gee, If i could do that don't you think i would have just made my own game? Just as you Myfist0 have grievances with Steam. S
Are the maps in rebellion smaller than in trinity? when I set up a random map, they don't seem to be as large as the old random's used to be.
Though they "shouldn't" be I wouldn't be surprised if they were. If they are smaller it was probably done to optimize Rebellion better. Many things under the hood of Rebellion were changed, and redone for optimization purposes that are different from Trinit
We will have to look at this when the update is released. I am a big advocate for buffing the advent since they were the weakest link in Rebellions early days (especially the loyalist). The advent DE got huge buffs in past updates. So this may be to prevent them from being OP.
Let the "vadering" sessions begin. You will be the first poor bastard that see's "Killed by Major Stress" on his monitor.
Interesting indeed. Too bad i suck at particle forge. I do agree the vanilla particles are what take up the biggest chunk of the resources. We have huge textures in rebellion for some of them for example the Advent loyalist Titan uses 3 1024x1024 sheets just for its normal ring effect. Add 2 more sheets for it firing. I reduced those ridiculously large textures down to 512x512 for TSOP, and converted them to DDS. However seeing what you wrote about the particles themselves now things are maki
The Borg do not succumb to enemy culture. The only reason they give out culture is so that the game AI doesn't break. Yea we did have to bend some rules a bit to get things to work.
Perhaps with the new optimizations, and memory room they made they will look over all effects, and fix, and/or create new effects.
