This discussion veered way off from the future of PC gaming itself to something like "Who has the best internet access?". There is another discussion about "Always on DRM" in the Sim City topic. I can safely say that as long as we have mediums like Steam, and game developers that give a damn that PC games themselves are in no danger of becoming extinct. The real question is say 5 years from now, What kinds of platforms, or hardware will we be playing these games on? Will it be

The issues i have still stand. I used to be a part of the HW modding community, I don't think a new HW made by "Modders" without any input at all from the original developers will touch on what made the original HW great, and "IF" they pull this off It will be nothing more than a mediocre "Fan Wank". The only thing to look forward to is an HD remake of the original game. Again they have ZERO PC game experience, and no tech demo of this new engine which they plan on using.

BOTH. Unless they have some kind of product to show us, Even a pre-alpha. DO NOT give them anything. I wouldn't touch anything unless it involved someone from the original Homeworld dev team. The fact that these fools have no game making experience at all, and are fishing for money to buy the licence, and fund a non existent project is a major red flag. I wouldnt trust it. BTW the link to the kickstarter page doesnt work.

The D'Deridex will always be a "Battleship". That is what its intended purpose was. A big hulking battlewagon. It was very tough choosing what other ships would fill the Romulan lineup. We basically filled it up with the best of the old FASA starship simulator game, and some Starfleet Command/Bridge Commander ships. The D'Verix is straight from the original SoA mod (Including the model itself), and it serves the exact same purpose it did in that mod. As a gravity well generato

I dont think it has to do with "class" at all. Poor people still manage to acquire PS3's, and Xbox's. I think it is more to do about the uneducated, and ill informed. The "Dumb Ass Masses" so to speak. That will blindly buy into anything, because an advertisement tells them they want it. No research is done into what the requirements are, or what you will need to play this next big thing you didnt know you wanted until some suit told you you did. The other end is the p

You hit the nail right on the head. All of your actions from the past games leading up to the end game meant absolutely nothing. (Spoiler alert!) If you save the geth, and the quarians, but chose the Red ending. You effectively wipe the very geth you just saved, and all synthetic life out. You see very little of the ramifications of your actions. The DLC did add some closure, but not enough IMO. It would have made much more sense if Shepard really was indoctrinated, or was fighting hi

The pre-DLC ending didn't give you any closure at all. At least the DLC sort of showed you what happened with certain characters afterward. You only had the Red Green, and Blue choice before the DLC, and it wasnt explained very well. The DLC gave you a choice of not to chose at all (which was quite funny actually). Personally i would have love it if they did go with "Indoctrination Theory" as an ending. THAT would have made sense.

ME 3 was NOT broken. There was absolutely nothing technically wrong with the game itself. What was wrong was that ME 1, ME 2, and the play through up to the end of ME 3 was Freaking Awesome! The ending of ME 3 is what killed it, and left you saying "WTF?!! Are you SERIOUS?!!!". It was an artistic choice by Bioware that went horribly wrong, and made no sense at all. It left you with the worst ending of any RPG game. Bioware could have done much better than this. They tried to soften the blow w

Short answer... NO. Though they did make a valiant effort with the DLC's, and trying to "clarify" the ending. The game still stands with the same crappy ending. An ending that Bioware stands by, and will not change. So despite the ME series being awesome in itself. The ending alone just kills everything.

So basically we have to "Deal with it", because the illiterate, and, dumb ass masses refuse to do any research into what they are buying into. The marketers use a "Jedi Mind Trick" saying "you really want this!", and the dumb asses say "Duh! Maybe i do!".. Great. :/

The new consoles are talking about requiring a constant internet connection to play the games. I am against this pretty much for the same reasons people are against Steam. The difference is Steam only requires you to be online to activate, and upgrade your game. You dont have to be online all of the time to play it. From what i am gathering with the new Xbox you have to have a constant online connection to "verify" your games. So if your internet goes out what happens? You cant play the game?

My biggest fear is that i will not be able to build my own "Awesome Gaming Rig" any more, because the market will give way to these all in one platforms like the tablet, or console. Yea there is something to be said for having your own "gaming station". Complete with a huge ass monitor, and surround sound system :)

I have been reading several articles stating that PC sales have been tanking hard. Giving way to Consoles, Smart Phones, and Tablets. While the thought of the MS empire falling does put a little smile on my face. I cant help but think of what will happen to the PC Gaming market. I cant see myself playing a complex game like Sins, Gal Civ, or Planetary Annihilation on a "Tablet". I am used to building my own hulking "super gaming computer". Hand picking the best components for when the

Like in said in the other topic. Stardock would be foolish to pass up on this opportunity. I do not want to think of what a company like EA would do to the franchise. However, Kamamura does have a point. Just because you got the IP license, and plan on making a new installment isn't going to bring back what made the game great. What i would do if i acquired the IP is to remake the original games, and combine them into a set (Call it "Super Homeworld"). All in a unaltered s

I would come out of modeling retirement for this. As long as whoever make it does NOT use Maya, or Softimage. If i had the cash in my back pocket i would jump on this in a new york minute. Then hunt down all who worked on Homeworld 1. To be honest i think Stardock should jump on this one. Though it is not a large company i think they have the resources to pull off a new HW installment.

LoP is worth mentioning because it was a very ambitious project that unfortunately failed miserably. Same can be said of the early builds of SoTS 2. However the patches are doing that game right. We got quite a few others that were "Meh". Like Armada 2526, and Endless Space. Not saying i want to see Stardrive fail. Quite the opposite. I really hope you do succeed where others have failed. This genre does need a GOOD 4x game.

We got Gal Civ 2, SotS 1, and 2, Endless Space, Star Ruler, Distant Worlds, Legends of Pegasus, Armada 2526, Gemini Wars, and SotSE. Plus a few other up, and comers.... You say this is like MOO 2. Hopefully not in the worst ways. I see graphics that are just "average" IMO. However eye candy alone doesn't make for a good game. What is so "different", or "unique" about this game? What makes this game stand out over all of the other 4x games that have flooded the market?

When Homeworld 1 was in its modding heyday we found out that the game was hard code limited to 32 megs of texture memory. So we found ways to stay within those limits, but improve the texture resolutions themselves. Simply by removing the "waste" of the unused texture spaces. In Homeworlds case we remapped meshes with lots of little textures. Instead of one large texture. TSOP does something similar Especially with the planet, and skybox textures (upcoming release). By removing the wa

Its not up to me. I haven't been able to do very much work at all, and i apologize for that. I got too much RL stuff on my plate. Word has it that one more Diplomacy version will be released first. Then focus will shift 100% to Rebellion. The Rebellion version needs a LOT of work before its ready, and only ONE of us can do that work.

It depends on "How" you are playing them. The Dominion are best played with a well rounded mix of all 3 "races" in the faction. The Jem'Hadar are powerful units, but lack support abilities. The Cardassian units are meat shields (with only a few exceptions). That are intended as attrition units, but with good support abilities. The Breen can be considered "Artillery" that can disable ships. Use only one "race" exclusively, and you are doomed to failure. Use them all together, and they are
