You are correct in that aspect. As long as Sins uses a single core there is only so much we can do. We try to do the best we can with what we have to work with. Nobody working on this can program. However i took what i learned during my old Homeworld modding days, and applied it here. You would have to speak with Ironclad, and Stardock to see if they can let you see the source code. They said that they will not re-write the engine themselves, because it will not be cost effective. But
Major Stress
Though it is an old rig it still meets the recommended specs to run sins. I am assuming the video card is at least 256 megs. You really want at least a 1 gig card to get the best from the video. The only bottle neck i can see is the CPU. You want at least a 3 gig, or better. Doesnt matter how many cores, because sins only uses one core. Vista can use quite a chunk of ram just running the OS itself. Check out http://www.blackviper.com/ He shows you how
You "shouldn't" have any issues playing on ICO with TSOP. TSOP does not change, or alter any game stats. Nor does it alter the vanilla game balance at all. As far as i am aware of there are no online issues. On medium, or default settings you shouldn't be using much more than a gig of ram even on large map/multiple players, and AI vanilla games. Especially if you turned off shadows, and effects. What kind of rig do you have? It sounds like you are having sync issues. T
I was gonna ask the same thing. Whats up with all the hate? I happen to like all of the above. TBS, RTS, and MOBA's. I can get into some FPS, or 3rd person shooters too. It just depends on my mood at the time. Different people have different tastes. No point on dissing others over what kind of game the like or don't like. I totally agree with Frogboy on the OP about the hardware issue, but i will add that until we go full blown 64 bit then games in general not just RTS
Thanks Myfist0. Yes my internet is total shit. I cant log in half the time, and the rest of the time i've had dial up faster than this! Since i am living in an monthly rental hotel i am kinda stuck with it until we can finally get our house, and move in. So if my upload was corrupt i apologize, and appreciate the fix. Will update when i get the chance.
It's all about "Instant Gratification" these days. Most people that don't understand RTS games say they are "Boring", and take way too long to play. They would rather play FPS frantic point, and click fests. Where you instantly start a game guns blazing, and you have ZERO time to sit back, and enjoy the view. RTS games are anything but "Instant Gratification". You have to plan ahead, build, anticipate your opponents moves, and counter them. Meanwhile come up with a plan of att
XSI is really the only "hard" part about modding Sins. You really dont need to know XSI completely. Just enough to get the model imported into sins. Hooking up the textures, null points, and tangents is all you need to know for XSI. I do all my Meshing, and UV mapping in 3dsmax. Particle Forge comes a close second to XSI on the learning curve factor. Any image editor that can work with, export the DDS, and TGA format will do. Mainly working with the color channels is all you need for textures
Like in said Armada 2 was what we were kinda trying to avoid. I was going for more of a Birth of the Federation type thing. If we did this for money first we would get the crap sued out of us by Paramount. Getting licenses would cost far too much to be worth it. Second. Not a single one of us knows how to program. I got as far as "hello world", and lost patience for it. Finally at least from my point of view. If we go "professional" everything changes from a hobby to a full ti
It took us this long to just to get a working developer build for Rebellion. Myfist0 has been busting his ass on fixing model issues that popped up in porting to rebellion, and Psychoak is pulling his hair out just to make things work right in Rebellion. These two have been the Primary contributors since i "retired". They deserve our appreciation, and as much Karma as you can give. I am trying to do what ever i can to help, but i have not been able to do much. I don't even recognize the m
You are correct. The team has discussed titans, and we tossed some ideas around.I was looking at the Excalibur from the upcoming indie ST: Excalibur game as the Fed Titan. Then came the MAJOR problem of "what could we use for the other factions?" No one could come to an agreement on this. Tho mine is not the final word on this. In my opinion i really don't think titans will work for us. We don't "have to have" them. Rebellion will run just fine without them. and to be brutally
Then ill just worry about artwork then. I got some plans for the other factions if you set up the UI like you did for Diplomacy. I'm not "totally" against TGA. My OCD is about this is standardizing everything in one format. Plus for TSOP converting to DDS did help alot. However if converting will screw it up as bad as you say then ill leave it alone. The ship textures do need work. Been saying this for years. Just haven't got around to doing something about it yet.
Indeed it will be time consuming. Ill have to go over every window, and brush file anyway to incorporate rebellion TSOP into it, and finally get rid of all the TGA textures. Rebellion pretty much set up the UI to be truly faction specific. However SoA 2's UI take it one step beyond. I just have to copy what is in the mods brush files into rebellions brush files. We need romulan, klingon, dominion. and borg artwork for their UI's done.

We need to make a list of this stuff just like we did for Trinity.
I FINALLY got the dev build for rebellion.... Wow what a mess! I guess i better learn how to do UI. Here are some early test shots
With all the scratching ive done i am surprised i still have hair.
Seleuceia does your graphic fix have these corrections on it? because i already incorporated it into my latest test build. If this eliminates a whole texture sheet then it is that much less Sins needs to load up. I also plan on re-incorporating optimized planets. Spherically uv mapped planet textures removing the black wasted space from each planet texture. Yet each p
As a semi-retired modder i can totally relate. Working on SoA 2 was a challenge at times just to open 3dsmax after reading some of the "hate mail" i got. Which at one point caused me to have a total meltdown. However, There are a few out there who do inspire, and motivate you. Plus the love of the project itself makes it all worth it. Despite all of the negativity. So yes take heart. Just ignore (or ban) the "obvious trolls" posting garbage just to get a rise out of you, or cause a po
An internal (mod team only) alpha build for Rebellion exists. However from what i heard it is riddled with problems. I dont have it. I cant download it, because my internet is absolute crap, and it cuts off at 30 megs. Otherwise i could look at the build, and see what it's problems are. Sorry you bought rebellion only to find out SoA2 ain't ready for it yet. In the future you should check which game its for first. In the mean time enjoy rebellion. The game in itself is pretty
So you are saying there are multiple files that do the exact same thing. Are you sure they have the exact same texture coordinates? Many brush files call for the same texture, but may use a different locations on that texture, or use it on a different window. I seen weird stuff in the brush files myself, but left them alone because i don't know enough about them to mess with it. If they really are duplicates then try experimenting with removing them, and seeing if it works. Make a
TSOP was made so that Sins doesn't use more than 2 gigs of ram on Maximum settings. Maximum being the key word. If you use the default settings of course the ram usage is going to be much lower. Everything in TSOP is based on running the game at Maximum settings. Which in turn will help the game in lower settings as a fringe benefit. Just to go over some things again. Sins is 32 bit game. Sins uses only a single core of your CPU , because the Iron
The Borg being a playable faction turned out to be a good idea after all. Originally we were gonna make them the pirate faction, but that didn't work out too well. All in all everything turned out very well so far. I wish i could contribute some more, and maybe i will. Got to get my house in order first. BTW love that picard giving the universal "hand salute"... along with his infamous facepalms.
The fact now is that retail stores don't sell PC Games any more. Unless you have a "specialty" store that specifically sells them. Like Fry's in California. Or whatever local chain that specializes in that. They are a dying breed though. In reality stores like Walmart that sells PC's, and Laptops has a very small selection of software. The main games i see are The Sims, or the very newest release of CoD, or the BF series. That is about it. The software sections ar
Word has it that Barking Dog split the former members formed both Kerberos, and Ironclad. The question is who from Barking Dog formed Ironclad?
Long story short.. There are no differences between the steam versions of Sins, and the Retail/Impulse versions of Sins. Except that you need Steam open (be it in online or offline mode) to run them. The mod files go in the same places (except with Rebellion), and it all works just the same.
